Arizer Solo 3

I've found the solo 3 seems hotter too but I've been experimenting with how fully I put the stem into the chamber and I find not inserting it as far as it will go (probably leaving a gap of around 3-4mm or so before the base of the heating chamber) leads to a better experience for me personally.
I was doing this for a while, but I started feeling like I wasn't getting as good vapor production or as thorough extraction at the same temps, so I switched back to inserting it all the way.

One for each hand!

@gheebee The stems being less tight after a week or so is normal. It also helps if the vape is hot. This only an initial break in period, they don't continue to get looser. I also find that my Solo 3 runs hotter than some of my other vapes at the same temperature. If not sure which, if any, is actually correct.
Actually I need the other hand for something else.:)

Where did you get the solo3 v2 for that price? I tried cityvaporizer, but only the v1 is near that price range.
First one was from City Vaporizer. When the sale ended the second one was purchased from Pipe Puffin. Never heard of them but the reviews seemed to indicate that were legitimate. Hasn't shipped yet.

My wife complains if I don't insert it all the way.

IMO, no one should have to do this to use their vape, the unit is running way too hot. Seems no one wants to admit this is what was happening to many V1 Solo3. Mine was so bad it was off about 50 degrees F! It wasn't just the poor menu design that made them come out with a V2!

You could also just dial the temperature back a few degrees.
I'm only vaping at 180°c and it seems like it gets really dark- almost black after a 5 minute session at that so I'll try lowering it further- no idea how anyone can go above 200°c as I'm retching and gagging coughing at around 185°c 🙈

I've found that a 5 minute session at 180°c will make the flower really dark, almost black which I've never had with any other vapes and I've used loads of others like mighty+, AE, volcano hybrid, dynavap, etc so I think the thermostat is definitely running hot- and I have the V2 version of the Solo 3

Almost black at 180C -> something might be wrong with your unit. I get dark at 200C but nowhere near black or charred. Based only on ABV colour, the Solo 3 appears to me to be about 10C hotter than other vapes reporting the same temperature. Also the glass stem gets pretty hot over longer sessions resulting in more convection heating which probably also explains the darker ABV.

Yeah almost black doesn't sound right for 180C. I don't think you should get any color near black unless you're really overpacking the stem or some flower fell into the oven. The unit could also be defective but I'd check those things first.

I find the S3 can be too intense with the stock stems so I almost always use a dimpled hook or a dry rig. I find if you just tame the vapor with some extra cooling it makes everything better. All this and I still never go over 380F unless I'm using concentrates.

I could be over packing it as I had a mouthful of flower the first time I tried the straw method to load the stem (it was too finely ground too) so I think I'm over packing to prevent that experience again while using up my already ground flower. I'll try a looser pack to see if that resolves it.

The replacement they sent me wasn't much better then then one I sent for warranty, so I sent mine back and got a new Solo 2. But I've been trying to tell people that some of these units run VERY hot! And this problem won't get fixed unless people complain. This is the same carp I went through with Boundless over their Tera. I'm not a skeptic, I've had terrible experience across they vape market with defective products, Storz & Bickel, Boundless, and Pax. And none of these except Boundless, ever admitted they had production issues! So Sadly, I don't expect any better from Arizer, based on my experience and what I'm hearing here. I know it's a hassle to do a warranty request but if people just put up with this, it will never get fixed. And it may shorten the life span of the vape.

The easy way to tell you haven't overpacked is to try inhaling through the stem before putting it in the solo. It shouldn't feel restricted. If you're using the stock Arizer stems with the glass holes, consider putting a little screen on top to prevent them from getting clogged. They can clog easily with bits of flower and it just kills your airflow. I like the hi-flow aftermarket stems that use metal screens (SneakyPete, 420Edc).

I also suggest using the S3 upside-down if you can (I like a sherlock) so you never have to worry about any flower falling into the oven. If you want to use it right side up just make sure your flower has a gentle tamp to keep it in place.

I'll definitely be sending it back if the issue isn't me, but I want to see if it's user error before doing so as I'm new to stem vapes like this- I've always used dosing capsules with my other vapes bar the dynavap. I used to work in quality control so it's important to me the end products are as fit for purpose as possible.

I'll try that on my next vape- I'm using the standard WPA with a dry glass piece as I did get some loose flower in the oven on pulling the stem out using it right side up so I prefer using it upside down- plus the wpa stem is easier to clean as I find the standard stem is a bit too long to clean with a cotton bud.

I forgot to say that it might be better not to use a fine grind with the glass-screened WPA as the holes would be more prone to getting clogged. A medium grind would solve that and give you better airflow but I would still consider a mesh screen on top of the glass screen.

I've never felt like mine was running egregiously off temp. Only complaints I can give about it are the buttons on mine don't feel amazing, the full airpath isn't easily cleanable, and the batteries aren't meant to be removable.

Right, that idea is simple but effective... hadn't thought of that before. Although to be fair for me it's rarely been an issue I'm very careful not to overpack...in fact I prefer under packing if anything.

It's $100 right? Do you reckon it was worth it? Be honest!
The software upgrade was free. I paid $6 to ship the unit to Port Angeles, and they paid to ship it back. Definitely worth it.

The $100 option is if you want to get a new unit. I didn’t opt for that as regular (non PD) charging is fine for me, and while I like the green color option, those two extra features were not worth $100 to me.

One more thing I think came as a part of the upgrade. I think with v1 the battery indicator was pretty dim, but with v2, it’s brighter, so easier to see. Much better for my old eyes.

So knowing what you do now if you were gonna buy another Solo 3 would you spend the extra $50-$60 bucks to get a V2 or just get a V1 since they on sale right now?

I only used my Solo 3 for a month after use as I got a screwball and dani fusion but today I was looking for my solo 3 could not find it and searched hours now found it and charging it to give it a go.

This thing is so wonderful tasting after using the screwball exclusively for 5 month.

Would the Solo 3 be a good choice for heavy use as in several times a day everyday, both on the go and while home at my desk? Or is it more of a time consuming sessions if you want to get the full experience?

It's good for everything! You can just put a mere pinch in or fully load up a tube. It heats up so fast that it's as fast as loading a bowl to smoke. Cleanup is super easy. I've been using it all day every day since I got it. I do wish it had a charging stand
