Arizer Solo 3

How do you guys interpret the teardown?
I‘ve seen this S3 teardown video where the guy couldn’t manage to take it apart without destroying it.

I saw the same guy do a TM2 breakdown and that's what he did: he literally broke it down...
While it's relatively easy to dismantle and reassamble the TM2 he actually did the same as he does here: he starts with unscrewing a part and then gets nerveous, takes out his pliers and starts tearing the thing into pieces...
LoL
Watching him unnecessarily destroy a TM2 made me crinch a bit... But why??? :D
I've got a feeling he likes to break things (like how he removes the battery pack... lol) so i'm not so sure if his way of opening this Solo is the only/right way...

He starts by breaking off a part of the circuit board, with his pliers(!), and then later on he says he'll "resist firing it up naked (without the shell around it)"...
Well, i've got news for him...:lol:

About the vape and it's internals: i kinda made up my mind before seeing this tbh and it didn't change my decision...

Edit: i do think it is a bit worrying how dirty the bottom part of the heater was and how hard to reach that part is. Not sure how (and how long) it was used but anyhow...

Well.. good point, probably not 😄 I thought that Arizer mentioned something about glue in our conversation, but I checked it back and they didn’t. Having this video in mind, I must have made that up as they said the heater is not repairable - which I still don’t get btw🤷‍♂️

I believe it was some dude on Reddit that was shouting at anyone who'd listen that Arizer uses "glue" in their devices insinuating that the air path was indeed not all glass. Turns out that Arizer uses a "ceramic paste" that hardens when dry...

Arizer wrote me this:

We have carefully sourced our parts from all over the world and have gone to great lengths to source and use only safe quality parts, from glass to silica free ceramics, there are no glues, PCBs are lead free, no components contain mercury, all accessories are medical/food grade and temperature rated. All structure materials used inside are of safe non-toxic materials and are heat rated to temperatures much higher than the maximum operating temperature.

I should have read this again before spreading the same glue bs here. My apologies.

Btw my theory is that the heater is clogged up with reclaim due to exclusive upside down use, as vapor rises up. I had a longer conversation with Arizer, in which they seemed to be most concerned about liquids in the oven. Guess that’s a vulnerable point.

I'm not sure how realistic that theory is, although it is why I prefer to remove the vape from the bowl, with tetra or injector etc, it's a fully clear the hits and not risk any vapor rising up, other devices I do this (and I really like my loose fitting WPA for Solo from GVB so it is extremely easy here as well) However I've seen arguments that the vapor would not condense on too hot surfaces of heater, and maybe anything that did would be burned off quickly anyway? As far as I know there is no proof anywhere of any vape being coated with reclaim on the insides that way, although I have personal concerns that it could be happening with certain vapes and explain flavor declines although there are so many other variables that it is hard to be sure in that regard... I think using it up right, presents more risk, yes if you were cleaning it with a liquid upright, but also crumbs and dust particles getting down into the heating element... If I recall correctly I've seen more proof of that in the past with other vapes, how filthy the insides get with herbal dust, which again is a reason for using upside down and making sure to fully clear hits, not let any blow back dust get into heating elements or areas you cannot clean...:2c:

From what i've read it stays hot (vaping temp hot) for a while after a few hits, even in on demand mode? So then it's not possible to "clear your hit"? So if you leave it inverted on a piece after hitting it, it blows vapor in it's own heater? :uhoh:

Yeah you need to remove the stem then, otherwise trying to clear all the heat and vapor can really hurt if you're on a higher setting lol and the load can get scorched easily too (OCD I would agree with this but we don't know for sure it is actually sending vapor up into the heater but you'd think it would have to go somewhere yeah but I don't know if it is capable of condensing onto a hot heating element or what)

This sounds very plausible indeed. But wtf is it that changes the device’s behavior over time after working fine? I don’t get it. Slow build up of stuff would have been a nice explanation, but I agree, hot surfaces aren’t prone to condensation at all.

When I reached out to Arizer after combusting with my S3 three times, I didn’t have to send it back, so I‘m lucky to own two units now, being able to further investigate the issue. But turns out there’s nothing to investigate, since I stopped using ISO everything’s just fine. So I thought this was the problem.

Now seeing @RAMMSTEIN ’s S3 doing the same thing but with no ISO contact whatsoever confuses me. What else can have that time bomb effect? Build up in different places? I have no good explanation. And this is pretty serious, I‘ve seen the S3 acting like that. 300C (temper colors have shown up) and white ash burnt weed after 5 seconds, that’s as far from normal as can be. And why did mine stop doing this while other‘s seem to get worse? I don’t get it really. At least this seems to be a rare problem.

Yeah, I agree it's a little unsettling. It's only happened to me once so it is pretty rare. I did use ISO wipes in the beginning but not since reading your advice a while back so I hope there's no permanent damage done.

Maybe @RAMMSTEIN used some other cleaning product that triggered this or maybe it's a faulty or failing temperature sensor?

It'd be interesting to know if this ever happens at low (<200C) temps.

Are there any good silicone sleeves for the S3?
Don’t know of any silicone sleeves for the S3 yet, but there are leather and non-leather covers from @Duba for various devices including the S3. I have TM2 version and it’s excellent, they are a little pricey and I find the S3 the coolest of the Arizer devices and doesn’t really need to be any heat protection. Would be nice customization and offer device protection.

Anyone had issues with the left/right buttons? Mine aren't reacting most the time. Kinda pissing me off, I've had it week and half maybe I believe.

YES! I mostly notice it on the right button, but that’s probably because I don’t use the left button very often. It’s very frustrating trying to change levels. I often have to resort to using the centre button and then the left and right buttons work fine!

I got so frustrated that I contacted Arizer and sent my unit in for repair. After a few days testing, they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it !!! and sent it back. They did include a few glass pieces for my trouble.

I can't get mine to unlock most the time. They should have no problem replicating the issue.

I have that problem too, but it seems worse when it’s hot. I don’t know what they did to try and reproduce it. I can’t see how you wouldn’t see it.

@michaelstone @chillAtGVC How long are you using your S3s? I have mine for 3 months, no button issues so far. As I have two S3s now, I realized that Arizer changed something with the buttons. The old ones are clickier, the newer ones are softer.

The first digits from the numbers on the back and on the bottom:
Old: G7 / M321
New: 1A / M354
I can’t remember when I got it. Early in the summer this year, I think, certainly longer than three months. I don’t have mine handy right now, I’m in Sri Lanka on an enforced T break.

Hi,

I have never cleaned the heating chamber of S3 with ISO or other means.
I always take great care to ensure that nothing falls in, so I rarely have to clean.
If I ever clean it, then I take a toothpick and scrape it out a little... But only lightly.

I only clean the glass with ISO and then rinse everything out with lots of water.
I haven't sent my S3 yet because nothing will happen because of the holidays and I wanted to send it in the next few days.
I continue to use it daily and again 3 days ago I had ash again.
Everything has been fine again for 3 days.

I'm really not sure if it's a defect... Or some circumstance causing my weed to burn...

I've also read some posts in Reddit about combustion, which can happen pretty quickly with S3.

What I noticed the last time I burned it was that I pulled it very, very slowly... and the burn only happened with one type of weed.

I don't know if it's from weed or how I pull.

Thanks, not really my style unfortunately and more than I want to pay. Just looking for a little scratch protection and better grip without additional bulk or weight.

Update on my Solo 3:

I didn't ship my Solo 3 and used it heavily over the holidays... It's currently working without any issues.

I thought if the error occurred again I could always send it to Arizer.

discovered the on-demand mode over the holidays.
I almost only use the Solo 3 with a bong and have always used it in session mode.
I've noticed that the time I set also changes how stoned I feel.
If I set it to 10 seconds, everything is still fine.. 15 seconds makes my head stoned... and at 20 seconds I'm broken :)
It really makes a difference how much time you set in on-demand mode...

Here I am often in level 3 or 4... rarely 5....

I have been using a Purr 14mm Corn Cob bubbler. It's a joy.
I still find one of the best inexpensive glass solutions is a dimpled sherlock using a WPA. Fits nice in the hand and cools really well.

Glad to hear your issues got better! Hope they never return 🤞

I also spent some time trying on-demand mode and it's really nice. I also like levels 3 and 4.
