Going down . . . . .
Big-Trip-Where-live-lives.jpg

Sorry I missed the full-pint photo op/money shot!

Tasting super smooth & tropical. LOTS of pineapple from the BRU-1 hops. This cask beer is refreshing & lively.

Seriously, this is tasting so good right now - the sun is even shining!

Not really very familiar with the BRU-1 hop so I enjoyed checking it out here:
I particularly like the analysis tab which shows the terpene breakdown.

Happy hazy Fridaze

Tomorrow my friend and I will be bottling and kegging (2.5 gal into my friends keg and the rest into my bottles) our Raison D'Être clone brew. I've never had the original but my friend wanted to make it since his other friend was complaining that they don't make this one anymore or something; hopefully it's good, the other clone we did, Golden Monkey, from the same book came out pretty good. After that's done we'll be brewing another beer from a Kolsch kit that I will spice up and increase the ABV of with some adjuncts and extra DME.

SweetWater 420 Strain IPA is not bad as an IPA but doesn't really even come close to having the cannabis-like taste that the name implies. It's only disappointing because the Mango Kush Wheat Ale from the same brewery had a taste that had me wondering if it actually had cannabis or CDT in it.

There's a brewer not far from where I live that use hemp flower along with hop during the aromatic phase of brewing. Not only his beer is excellent but it makes you want a vape to go with your drink !

Charbay makes a series of hop flavored whiskeys, the idea behind it being that a typical whiskey mash is more or less beer without hops so they wanted to see what would happen if they made the whiskey more beer-like. The example I tried, release 2 (circa 2007), had an amazing pot brownie taste to the point where that’s pretty much all it tasted like. I got to talk to the distiller since it was a whiskey festival and told them why I liked it so much and they laughed and then told me about how when they made it the smell from making it was even stronger and at one point they had to explain to the angry distillery owner that it only smelled like that because of the hops in the mash and not because they were smoking weed in the distillery. As they finished the story my friend happened along so I had them give it a try and the first thing out of their mouth was “Wow, it tastes like a pot brownie!”. It was easily the best thing I tried at the festival.

The Ultrakolsch came out a nice, light-brown with a very clean/crisp taste reminding me of real Kolsch but also with a tasty mix of sweet flavors from our adjuncts, as hoped/intended. The finish is similar but tapers off to just a nice Kolsch taste like I was drinking a regular Kolsch. A definite winner in my opinion and a near-perfect example of what I imagine when I hear someone refer to a beer as “balanced”, so there’s that too. May try and boost the ABV a bit even though it probably doesn’t need it, I like boosting ABVs… lol

Enjoyed a few of these wild style beers from Burning Sky along with some Gelato in the TM2 while catching some D by the coast this weekend . . . .
Burning-Sky-Summertime.jpg

'This seasonal wild beer has been brewed with fresh elderflowers and gooseberries for a tart, thirst-quenching taste. Perfect for the summer'

. . . . And it was pretty perfect!

Happy daze :)

Cheers all!

So here is the deal. In the left rear-ground one can see a (just consumed) Galaxy Blaster hazy IPA by Cellarmaker.

Delicious. Never had it previously. Got in on a rec at a local store that specializes in craft beer.

I'm a "flavor chaser" when in comes to herb. Same with beer and spirts.

I basically described what I like in herb profiles to describe what I wanted in a beer. They did me right.

Tons of flavor. 6.8%. I like it.

As a parenthetical note. I have not been drinking much beer in recent years, after being a historic beer enthusiast. Not sure what happened, but mostly drinking small amounts of highly flavorful spirits lately.

Back in 1978 I started brewing my own beer as a not-quite legal junior at UC Berkeley, as hopped up "West Coast" style IPAs and similar simply didn't exist in the market in those days, I brewed my own, doubling or even tripling the amount of hops suggested by the local wine and beer shop.

Yes, I'm the guy who "co-invented" the style. So blame me if you are way over them. LOL

Another thing I "discovered" is that (real) champagne bottles take a cap beautifully. Much easier to clean and bottle than 12 oz bottles. Downside is one has 750 ml to consume. Wait, did I say that was a downside? LOL

Bill

ETA: In the foreground is a Lotus vape. If one is unfamiliar, the Lotus reliably produces sweet sweet vapor that is very akin to the flavor profile of these hazy IPAs. Great pairing.
