IME, nitro beers tend to taste a bit flatter than forced carbonation or bottle conditioned beers since they use much less carbon dioxide, but then make up for it in the flavor department by being rich and creamy.

But I'm certainly no expert, just a drunk. :cheers:

I'm really enjoying this nice glass of Nitro. It has a very pleasant sweetness that compliments the bitterness that I so enjoy. Not too cold reveals all the wonderful flavors, and so smooth make this Nitro a winner for me! Thank you for steering me right!

The six pack of Sawtooth Nitro I picked up disagrees with that unfortunately. It just tastes like flat Sawtooth. The flavor isn't terrible but the lack of carbonation is really disappointing. Overall it's just not that enjoyable to drink...at least it was on sale. :D

AGREED ...While I enjoy the Nitro flavors, the flat carbonation leaves me wanting.

I enjoyed it a lot. Would recommend it to others and would drink a bottle right now. Not too sour and very drinkable. I consider it a good deal @$8.95 for a big bottle. It won best Oud bruin in Europe for 2012. Its definitely a world class beer. The Belgian's know what's up.

I am just getting back into beers. I blame the liter of green dragon I have been working on since August. I could go for some Backwoods Bastard and FV13. If I could only drink one beer it might be FV13.

Sounds like you'd like some double IPAs. Well-rounded is tough in this category...once the % gets above 9%...boozy-ness tends to take over.

I have some in mind to suggest, but the names escape me. Some have already been mentioned in this thread. If it comes to mind soon, I'll pop back in

So...I bought Terrapin Hi 5 IPA (six pack of cans!)

5.9 abv. I tend to go for higher alcohol %, but I was intrigued by this new brew since I like Terrapin Hopsecutioner IPA.

Much lighter, smoother taste. I also tend to like very hoppy beers, but this one was a bit more subdued. I think this would be a great day beer for IPA lovers. I've noticed a trend toward session IPA, which seem just a little too weak for my tastes (~4.5%). This is a happy medium for me! Thought I'd suggest it for those like me who drink IPAs during the day, but finds they sneak up a little too quickly when you're downing 6%+ brews.

Crap, forgot to find the names of those other brews...

Tried Terrapin Hopsecutioner IPA, but couldn't find the Big Hoppy Monster. The Terrapin Hopsecutioner IPA is good with a nice strong hops bitterness right up front that I like, but still lacking the extra flavor and alcohol punch that I'm after. Also tried the Petrus recently suggested - nice, but a bit light for my taste. The search continues!!!

Just bought a 4-pak of St. Bernadus ABT 12 and poured myself an after-work bottle: Smooth & creamy, dense high head, packed with flavors, some bitters but so well-balanced they just fold into the blend beautifully, great and abundant small-fizz carbonation, tons of malt overtones, 10% alch.(!!!), some pleasant sweetness and that wonderfully mild dry finish that carries the nose for about 5 minutes after the glass is put down. One bottle will get you well on your way to a high spirit inebriated state - most welcomed and relaxing at the end of a stress-filled day! I rate it a 4.8/5.0 for this style of beer. If you enjoy Chimay, this one will also please as much if not more!

There is a nice local 6 pack shop and bar called House of a thousand beers. For a little bit over a year a few friends and I get mixed takes outs and try all kinds of crazy brew. I'm a sucker for local breweries. I really like seasonal oktoberfest, pumpkin, winter ales. I do drink IPA's, belgians, brown ales and just about everything in between i will at least try.

One of my all time favorites Helltown Brewery's Mischievous which is a brown ale only 4.8% but by far the best brown ale i have found yet. Can only get it on draft since this small brewery isn't bottling too much yet.

I'm also a fan of Terraipen beers one of my favorites from them is Midnight monk which his a belgian style black IPA thats close to 9.8%.

Another go to is from North coast brewery is Brother Thelonious Belgian style abbey ale 9.4%.

Church brew works Pious Monk Dunkel 4.3%

Penn Brewery St. Nikolaus Bock Bier brewers reserve 8.3%

St. Bernardus Christmas Ale - ABV 10%

I’m a fan of St Bernardu abt 12 so was rather excited to try this for the first time even with $7.95 price take. My first thoughts was this taste like abt with a strong flavor of cherry haha. As it warmed up the flavors bended and seemed to smooth out and was a pretty good over all. I don’t think I would pay that price though for just and 11.2 oz bottle again this year maybe a try the big bottle next year.


Full Pint Brewing Co. - Festivus - ABV 6%

Full Pint it a local Pittsburgh brewery that puts out some good brew. I first seen this when the bar manager at my work was looking to get craft seasonals ordered and was telling me about the Seinfeld episode where they made the holiday festivus up haha idk I never seen it but wanted to try the beer so I picked it up. I’m glad I did because for $3 this was and awesome beer from start to finish. I will be putting one of these in the 6 pack for Christmas.

Perrin has released their first two bottled beers. Both are very nice.

With Kindness is an excellent barley wine. All the right olfactory notes. Properly sweet without being cloying. Balanced and tasty.

Kill Em All is a nice imperial stout. Medium bodied, with a good mouth feel. Smooth but ends just a little tart.

I'm surprised that I liked the barley wine more since I'm a bigger imperial stout fan.

A great kick-off for Perrin!

Another winner found! Founders Centennial IPA!!! Powerful flavor - BOLD, but not overstated! - piney, fruity, dry, extra nice bitter, 7.2% alc. feels like 10%, VERY SATISFYING! 9.999/10! Can't say enough GREAT things about this brewery!
