Sorry to hear this about your unit. What is the # on your Alfa. I had a faulty unit from the 2014 release and so did my friend, they will take care of you.

I use 70% iso

GA-02367, its one of the newer units with the grey logo, not the 2014 release

my only confusion is why this smell never showed up in the past, only after not using it for a while. But either way, I believe I will be warrantying it, and i'm going to use 70% iso from here on.

Interesting, FWIW I used to own a Herbalizer that I wanted to sell so cleaned it all up, wiped with ISO, etc. and tucked it away in its box for about a month. Then I decided to use it one last time and fired it up, and it smelled like plastic too! Similar smell offgassing as when it was new, so i'm not sure why sitting for a month unused caused such a strong odour. My guess is that we become desensitized, and then after a period of non use can definitely smell it when not used to it? Could be wrong since your smell is so strong and isn't going away?

Any Alfa owners also own a Crafty? I used to own the Crafty, thought it was the best portable for being discrete, great vapour quality, but shitty battery and durability/cost. Just curious if the Alfa would be a good replacement? Have there been many defects? Is it a nightmare to deal with the customer service overseas?

Hey @biohacker I used to own a Crafty and it produced great vapor but suffered from increasing heat up times and I sold it. The Customer service worked well for me. My Alfa stopped working, I sent it back (to California) and they sent a new unit within a week. It is a stealthy vape for certain and quite flavorful for a conduction based vape. The draw speed is definitely slower than with the Crafty. The battery life is actually very good also.
I like that you can crank out a few pulls, shut it down and then ramp the heat for the next session. It also uses extracts very well when they are added to the herb in the oven.

It seems that the common culprit was using ISO?

How much worse is the airflow in comparison to the Crafty? Airflow is pretty important to me, especially in a portable. Everything i've read so far has pointed to Crafty being superior save for battery time, heatup time, durability, and discretion....i guess price too. Anyone have a Prima?

biohacker,
quick question guys a friend wants to try my alfa but is asking if he can use hash with it? Maybe a mix of the two if it won't work alone?

Also my alfa is starting to irritate my throat like smoking was so maybe something did happen when i dropped it and it's combusting a little now, maybe it's because i'm already a bit ill. *shrugs*

There is a noticeable difference between the Alfa and Mighty airflow. Mighty next to no resistance, Alfa can have some ok flow with a half packed bowl of grinded up bud and mflb stem. I typically roll Alfa full packed tight with a bubbler and Mighty on its own (way better than Crafty for your $).

Agree Mighty>Crafty, although both has serious battery integrity problems IMHO (i've owned both). So with the Alfa, i'm intrigued in your use because I exclusively pretty much use through a water tool, and with the Alfa's apparently mediocre airflow, how do you find pulling those bong snaps? There is a resistance fine line that if I cross, I do not enjoy the experience. For example, the older Solo models with gong, I found basically unusable, but with the newer higher airflow models, with a regular gong it works like a dream, plenty airflow.

IME the airflow is a bit restricted but not enough to be an issue, I love my Alfa, one of the better portable I own...maybe the better if I don't consider the MiniVap as a portable!

What number on the alfa is considered faulty?

Suggestions for the Alfa II.
Instead of Lo,Mid,Hi,A/P,A/T you change it to a temperature dial with 360,380,400,420 settings.
The rest of the Alfa is perfect.

Can anyone recommend the best place, as well as price, to order the most up-to-date Alfa? Is it possible there will be some Black Friday sales on vapes this year?

Hey guys! Decided to take apart my alfa rather than shipping it in for warranty because I'm lazy, and don't really have the time or money to ship it. Though I may in the future. I think the source of the mild burning plastic smell is the gunk that got inside the unit and into the insulation (which is the source of the smell). Here are my pictures and a brief comment of my observations.

I use mine pretty regularly, and I haven't seen that ever happen. Have you contacted the Alfa folks? That situation sounds weird!

How safe is that? Delrin melts under 350F. But that's very cool, are you making more or selling them? I'd buy one if the materials are safe.

Been using Delrin for a while now, havent felt or seen a difference in taste with the rubber tip vs delrin, the white isolator doesnt get hot but i havent measured temp on it after a session. Something to look into...

I just make them For personal appeal, havent thought about selling.

How do you all feel about the high-ish temp range, or at least higher than others I've seen. Does it make for a harsh or burning hit?

Stay charged, my friends
I don't have a problem at all with the Alfa's preset temperatures, but then I stick mainly with low and medium. Still loving the Alfa after 7+ months, though I use the Air when favouring flavour, and Puffit 2 when I want to quick single hit. Would love to see an Alfa gen 2 come up though!!
