A Guide to Vaporizering

Hi Guys, I've been putting together an overview guide to vaporizing, including research and links to lab reports, detailed photos of the vape process, tips on grinding and lots of information about various types of vaporizers.

Having spent a 150+ hours on this, I'd love to get some feedback from the community to see if it's missing anything, or if any information strikes you as unfair or not totally clear:

Personally, I would replace your references to getting "high" with something like "effects" of marijuana. There are a lot of patients that seek real medical relief to their symptoms, and I feel like simply refering to the "high" does not convey the most positive message that medical cannabis could convey.

Yup, for a lot of medical patients, the LAST thing they want is to get high. They just want the bud to address their medical issues.

All of the recommendations here are good. I agree that you should stick to one term, cannabis, and that you shouldn't focus on THC. All of the actives are important.

I'd avoid stating specific percentages for efficiency. Some people actually wind up consuming more simply because they find it easier and nicer to vapourize.

Avoid absolutes. Not all plug-ins use whips, and some take 30 minutes or more to warm up. Think log vapourizers. Not all portables are pocketable. The Solo and FlashVAPE are luggable but really don't fit well in a pocket.

You've listed the MFLB as an example of a convection vapourizer. It is in fact the vapourizer that proved you could make a great conduction design. Before it arrived, conduction vapourizing had a really bad reputation.

In your example of vaped herb, you say that the nugget is "not too wet or dry" but in my experience, the drier the better. Drying concentrates the oils.

Great points about 'getting high' and 'weed', I tried to cover a broad use of words, but I like the idea that avoiding some of these words is better for the reader and guide contents. so I'll try to edit out some of those.

Great suggestions. It's hard to find consistent info on some of these topics, so I tried to consolidate the info.

During the 1st 10 seconds or so my impression was that the "All About Grinders" category could be renamed something like "Preparation", so you can include extracts and edibles, eventually.

An external resources section might be usefull too, i'm thinking about SeedFinder to select the strain according to one's needs, etc., etc.

Love this! Personally, I enjoy how you say, "getting high", as that's why I (and honestly, probably most users around the world) use marijuana. But yes, it’s true that this term might exclude certain medical users (many of whom make up the population of forums such as FC).

Ultimately, it depends on what audience you're going for. IMHO, replacing "getting high" with "feeling the effects" would be a good choice, as this doesn't really leave anyone out, but using terms like "medicating" might be a little rarefied - not that anyone has suggested that.

I also agree that "weed" and "pot" have certain connotations, but once again, it's all about what your chosen demographic is. I enjoy all of the ideas suggested here, as words like “effects” and “marijuana” are very inclusive to all people. If you’re looking to appeal to as many users as possible, I’d say that’s the best way to do it.

I'd just like to throw this out there as it's something that seems to come up ... I'm a medical user ... I get enormous medical relief from the use of cannabis. I am also an advocate of recreational use as it's not harmful like other things like alcohol. I am also a quite involved member of my community, both through business and with my kids, and my father and grandfather were teachers in this Town and I have the IT contract with the municipality etc. When speaking to people and this comes up ... I will refer to myself as a "pothead" sometimes ... I guess it's a way of trying to "own" the term that has had such bad connotations in the past. "hey look ... a pothead isn't necessarily a burnout but can be a successful, contributing member in our Town ... " ... it's like the Simpsons' or The Family Guy ... blatant is sometimes effective at getting a message across.

That being said ... if someone called me a pothead ... I would be offended. I own the term, since I am a cannabis user, but other people do not have the right to use it on me unless they have earned that right. (Does any of this make sense? ... feel I'm rambling ...)

I'm right there with you, brother. I really enjoy marijuana, and often participate in "weed culture", but there is a stereotype (think "pothead", "stoner", etc.) that really isn't representative of me in any way, other than the simple fact that I use marijuana. I don't dislike those who do fit that stereotype, in fact, I tend to quite like those people! But it's frustrating sometimes to be misrepresented, simply because of that: it's misrepresentation.

IMHO, as long as stereotypes exist, it's inevitable that some amount of misrepresentation will exist as well, and sometimes I will be the victim. Unfortunately, I'm sure that sometimes I misrepresent others and make them victims, too! In the end, I just try and focus on spreading love and joy and making that the priority above all else (and I often times fail at doing this).

And, I will admit, I also have the side goal of trying to get them high at some point.

Did not have time to have a thorough reading but two thoughts, nothing very important though:

1- i would use the title: let's vaporize cannabis. For the same reasons as said above, certain words have certain conotations, especially for people who don't like the plant. Why not keep it a little more formal for a change?

2 - Why use two volcanos instead of putting another good plug-in like the herbalaire? Or the cheap but trusty vapolution for example?

I'll come back with more suggestions when i have a bit more time.

Nonetheless, great guide, and good info overall. It shows you took the time to do something right, i like it!

You also forgot Log vaporizers like the UD, american craftsmanship and all..

I'd agree except that @Vape-Nation hasn't made some of the corrections that were pointed out in this thread. For example, he still lists the MFLB as a convection vapourizer. Overall it's really well done and it's a shame that these little errors are still there.

Looks nice, but I feel more time was spent on the design than the content. A few random points:

• The top 5 plug-in vapes on FC (by thread view count) are the Purple Days, EQ, Zap, Cloud, and SSV; you only have one of those on your website (EQ). Granted FC is an enthusiast site, but you think there would be some correlation. However I noticed your use of affiliate links, so your selection of vapes could simply be based on the most popular on Amazon/VapeWorld/etc....smart choice if you want to make money, but doesn't serve the enthusiast community terribly well. Someone on FC made a vaporizer chart which could be useful to consult; I believe you can find it on Vaporpedia.
• Parts of the comparison chart are vague/inconsistent: no legend for the $$$ symbols, some materials are simply listed as metal (whereas others are stainless steel, aluminum), some pie charts are in seconds, others in minutes.
• The descriptions on some vapes do not seem entirely accurate, for example, the Vaporking: "Designed to fail after moderate or regular use". Although I've never used a Vaporking, I can say that durable goods are not deliberately designed to fail; that's just a bad business model.

Fab job so far! Totally agree with the suggestions to maintain some sort of consistency and professionalism in your terminology. Also, as @Bouldorado suggested, the guide could possibly be further improved by including more of the most popular vaporizers. It may also be worthwhile considering adding a vaporizing effects temperature guide (I can't see that you've added one so far - but apologies if I've missed it!) - as those new to vaping, whether medicinal or recreational users - would probably find that really beneficial.

It's an affiliate site, so money is a part of the motivation. Buuuuuuut I do think this is a useful and helpful site for newcomers to the vape scene, not to mention it's very visually sexy and not at all spammy, so it's all good.
