Here’s what I wanna know and I bet others out there would love to know:

If a person doesn’t do huge dabs and is more about smallish rosin dabs, should said person go with 25mm bangers & inserts or 30mm? Is there a particular reason or concern where one would choose one over the other, beside the size of dab? I’m leaning towards 25mm atm but I’m easily swayed!

Am I just overthinking this? If one size was superior, why would two sizes be on offer? I want to pick a size and have everything in that size. Capiche?

I was all 25's but wanted an enail. A deal came along and I picked up a 30 with axial coil. I liked the extra size of the 30 and used it with the coil while continuing to torch dab with the 25's. Then along comes Shane with ruby inserts and I'm faced with another 25 or 30 decision. Decided to try a few torch dabs in the 30 and I've not used a 25 since. I much prefer the extra surface area of the 30 and other than a travel setup won't be using any more 25 gear. I don't take huge dabs, maybe 1/2 grain of rice and I heat the 30 the same time I heated the 25 when torching.

The biggest thing to consider when trying to decide on 25 or 30

1: Can my piece handle the extra weight of the 30mm? This is one that will stop several dead in their tracks and can be a real downer when you realize your rig is tipsy when a 30mm is added. But not when a 25mm is used.

2: Do I really need the extra surface area? If your rig can handle it and you won't feel funny dabbing on a small shot glass sized banger. Then you need the 30mm.

3: Is there a massive difference between the 2? Yes and No. For some this change is dramatic enough for them to really notice a difference and for others its barely noticeable. So the big thing you will want to ask yourself is do you always feel like your banger is on the small side or if it is the perfect size to make your brain happy

Both the 25 and the 30 will give you a great experience. But some (Like myself) prefer the larger 30mm and I think it's more of a preference than anything. Kind of like how some prefer large coffee cups where others prefer the smaller cup. They both work, but some are drawn to the larger than needed cup/banger =P

Hope everyone is having a great start to the week

Personally I think larger nails tend to promote bigger dabs, it's up to you if that's a good thing, but I truthfully appreciate the size reduction of my 19mm insert nestled inside my 25mm banger. I've been dabbing since dabs were literally "dabs." I don't do big hits, in fact I need to get at least 40 DPG's (dabs per gram) And I vape so low in temp that it offends people lol. So your usage style will determine the outcome as well. People looking for more visible vapor will likely prefer the 30mm.

No matter what, the gem insert will reduce surface area, which could be a reason to opt for the 30mm. The gem vaporizes more efficiently though so I feel it kinda negates the size difference up to a certain point; but a stock 25mm can easily handle a whole gram, the walls aren't really tall enough to handle those type of globs in gem.

I remember when nails were only this big! Of course the temps were way hotter back in the day so you didn't need much surface area. Like Shane said, rig size is probably one of the main considerations. My rig is so old/tiny that it can barely support a 25mm banger, it's more from the Quave Club Banger days where the buckets were far more shallow.

How big would a water piece need to be to comfortably handle a 30mm banger?

I've had a couple small rigs that couldn't handle a 25mm + coil without wanting to tip forward. Definitely helps to have a nice, chunky base.

I also prefer the 25mm + sapphire insert, mostly because I like smaller rigs but also take fairly small dabs. Most of the time I'd rather take a couple small dabs over a larger one because it tastes better and I don't feel pressured to keep sucking hot air just to finish it off.

I did own a 30mm setup for a while and I don't think there are really any downsides in terms of vaporization, just the extra bulk.

@Monk Debate its more of how big the base is. I have a 5.5 inch piece that can hold a 30 and a 6.5 that cannot and the only difference is how big the base is. =)

One has a thick chunk on the bottom and can handle the extra bit of weight better than my other larger piece with a lighter and smaller base

Thanks! My current bubbler has a decently beefy base (I think), so I probably could do a 30. On the other hand I like to do smaller dabs so I might not need the size.

Dear @710Coils when you have a minute:
Can you please (re)tell me the values that should be in my Auber RDK-300A for your coils? I seem to remember that there was one parameter that needed adjusting and just want to make sure I'm correct in this memory and my coil is running optimised. Or that I'm mad as a hatter and fabricated the whole thing out of thin air for no reason at all.

Please oh please don't let it be the latter :uhoh: that's when I'll know it's time to take a long walk off a short pier. Or an f'in tall cliff. :haw:

Adjusting your Auber RDK-300 to support a 150 watt coil
To adjust Auber RDK-300 controller for any 150watt coil. Hold down the knob for 5 seconds, the small power indicator light will start blinking. Turn the knob clockwise and scroll to 166 that is the access code(if you overshoot turn the knob counterclockwise to go down) then push the knob down once and you will come to P-125, press the knob again to get to I-60, and press again to D-10, press the knob once more and you will come to OTH-40, This is the setting you will want to change from 40 to 67 for all 150watt coils. Press the knob one more time for auto shut off and set to desired minutes and then press the knob one final time to exit.

THere you go =)

30mm Ruby inserts are due this Thursday!!!!!!!!

Shane - what does this variable change do, exactly? Do you know?

I have been running your coils on your bangers with the bog standard Auber settings and haven't noticed anything untoward. I also use the same Auber with Liger and D-nail coils (and Greenlight coil) so I hesitate to make a change without knowing the impact.

And also, is there any change required/recommended for an Omron E5CC equipped controller?

Thanks and give the missus my regards. Hope you guys are well and thriving on the left coast. :-)

P.S. ooops, never mind. I found it in the supplemental. It would appear that it sets the high output limit and leaving it set at 100 for 100 watt coils will only mean that it may take a bit longer to heat up with your 150W coil. I think I leave it as is, yeah?

@Baron23 the adjustment just allows the controller to utilize the extra 50 watts my coil are rated for. So its totally optional and will just allow the controller to push more watts to the coil when holding the set temp and such. =)

Omrons do not need any adjustments other than running the auto tune setting whenever its drifting more than a few degrees when sitting

Marge says hi and we both hope you and your family are doing well =)

hehehehe...I'm a lazy sucker....but I did find OH in the supp manual and edited my post just as you posted. Sorry, I do try to do my own research first...well, usually...before asking. But I'm getting old and lazy, apparently! haha

And we are all doing fine. Son is coming up this wknd from grad school and we will eat, maybe shoot some targets, have a few brews, and if his GF isn't around, maybe vape a little bit! haha

Oh my god @Baron23 it’s amazing! That one little adjustment and the flavour was better and the effects were like- BAM! just this side of psychedelic. It’s like that extra 50 watts is what I’ve always been looking for, the missing part of the equation. Not the material, not the glass, not quartz/ruby/sapphire/SiC, not even a super-smart controller, it’s the COIL! Who would have thought it was all about that extra fifty watts in the coils and that @710Coils throws it in for free!?! It’s just science if you think about it, it’s like if you could turn it to eleven, like going one more.

Thanks Shane, mine was 67 so all’s good. I won’t bother you with that question again. Unless I forget and someday think my settings are off. And even though it’s a question about an Auber setting, I somehow still ask you, even though you’ve never sold nor claimed to support this particular controller. Thanks for being you!

After seeing this post i went n checked my auber rdk 200b. It was set at 100, i will turn it down to 67 and see if i notice a difference.

Many thanks.

Im glad i saw the post above. After changing the setting from 100 to 67, the temp is completely stable. By that i mean, before changing the setting my controller would constantly under and over shoot on the temps, just ten or so degrees.
Now i have it set at 488 and it does not over or under shoot, it sits at 488.

Its funny it didn't really bother me too much before, it was a little annoying.

Hi Shane! Well, the banger broke on the 2nd bounce so all in all, pretty strong. ;) Will obviously have to order another one, along with a few more bits and was wondering if there is a current discount code, for members?

Cheers!
