I find it all comes down to technique, I can make my lotus white wall my glass as thick as any of my heavy hitters, not to argue points here, just saying that I have found very similar if not equal results with the Lotus. It just took a lot of trial and error to figure out the proper heating...

It appears to me that the head on the v2.0 is removable, allowing the user to install/remove the heat shield, where the head on the v1.0 is fixed, if you try to unscrew it you can damage the internals (from what I gathered from past comments) and that voids the warranty, or possibly just ruins...
