The land beyond the LB. Which path should I choose?

What sort of temperatures are we talking about here? I thought that aluminium doesn't even melt until it reaches 660C (1220F). As one of the most abundant elements on the planet, aluminium occurs naturally in our food, air, and water, so it's unavoidable anyway. You'd need to ingest a lot for it...

It would be inetresting to see if swapping the power supplies around makes any difference.

Thoughts On The State Of The Vaporizer Industry

I don't think that adding mass, insulation, etc is going to improve anything. The air won't reach vaporization temperature until it is drawn over the heating element. Every other part of the vape is going to be cooler than this. The HI already reaches combustion temperature running at 12V. The...

Thoughts On The State Of The Vaporizer Industry

The larger the heatsink, and the more surface area, then the lower the temperature of the surface for a given amount of energy input. As I have already mentioned, the larger log vapes run at lower temperatures. That is a fact, and you can read the relevant threads for more information. Scaling...

Thoughts On The State Of The Vaporizer Industry

I'll admit that for quite a while I thought this was the case, but the evidence is pointing to the opposite being true. A heatsink is exactly that... a heat sink. It pulls heat away from its source and dissipates it to the environment. As the heat spreads out from its source, it decreases in...

    Discontinued Old City Diffusers

No probs about the AC power, but I think that's even more reason to have some protection around the glass element. Cables do tend to get tripped over etc. Surely it wouldn't be difficult to make the wood taller with a large hole at the top that leaves plenty of room around the glass element? It...

    Discontinued Old City Diffusers

I like the sound of the new smaller unit, although the little cube one is very cute! I do have one concern though, as attractive as it is, seeing that glass element sticking up makes me concerned about breakage. Will the portable version have the element recessed for protection?

    Underdog Log Vapes

^ my thoughts exactly. I've only got the PD at the moment, but that could change in the not-so-distant future ;)

    Underdog Log Vapes

I did email them about it and it is rated for 2A. The one you're looking at seems similar, just without the digital display. These things are so cheap that I thought it was worth the risk.

    Underdog Log Vapes

OTA, I always load my PD with it standing upright, and have been doing so for years. There isn't even a screen in the heat port. A bit of herb does occasionally fall down the hole, but it's no big deal. I turn the PD upside down every few days and give it a tap. The stuff just falls straight...

    The HI

The advantage of a variable power supply is that you get to find the setting that suits you then keep it there, rather than fiddling around with it all the time.

    Underdog Log Vapes

Do you own a log vape? I do, and I can tell you it gets very warm on the outside. Wood is not a perfect insulator. Given wood of the same density, the larger the wood is, the more surface area it has available to dissipate the same amount of energy, so it will feel cooler. No need to guess. If...

    Underdog Log Vapes

How did you figure that out? The smaller size is a huge step forward in the log vape world. Smaller is easier to handle (especially with glassware), and it is also more efficient. A lot of energy is wasted keeping a big lump of wood warm.

    Underdog Log Vapes

That's a new one to me. I would have thought that a resistor would be an easy load for a switchmode power supply. I'm no EE either, but I've got a friend who is, so I'll have to ask him about it.

    Underdog Log Vapes

I don't think it's the "switching circuitry" that causes problems. 12VDC is 12VDC. The question is whether a power supply is actually putting out 12V. Unlike switchmode power supplies, transformers sag under load, so they are rated accordingly. This means that at anything below full load, they...

    Underdog Log Vapes

I'm not sure what is going on here, but the output voltage should not change regardless of the input voltage. If you have a look at the label on the X-650, you will see it has an input voltage range of 100-240VAC. This means that even at 100V input you should still be getting the same output...

regulated vs unregulated power supplies for "log vapes"

I also expected that there would be more informed discussion about power supplies, considering how critical they are in achieving the final result. People seem to rely on anecdotal evidence and hearsay to draw their conclusions. I suppose most people aren't that interested in technical stuff. I...
