Sorry, I assumed (for no good reason) that you were using kanthal. As I understand it, there are very good reasons not to heat Ti wire to the point of glowing!

Is there any reason not to torch the whole coil/wick together? (assuming coil is still intact and works) I've torched coils as I'm building them (to help tighten gaps between coils I squeeze them together with pliers while torching). Should I avoid doing this?
