I think that if two substances have the same refractive index then light can pass from one to the other without the boundary between bending the path and revealing the boundary as a visible artifact.

My understanding is that the Milaana is completely unregulated with no low voltage cut-off, but that it stops producing vapor before the battery gets low enough to be a problem. I think it's just a battery, a button, a space-age heater, and a sexy hunk o wood.
