Anyone try adding thermometers to log vapes?

my MOSFET was getting wicked hot because i did not have enough gate voltage to drive the MOSFET into the milliOhm resistance of source to drain. i thought i was being clever by using the gate control to turn on the red LED also. but that locked the gate voltage at about 2.5v. i moved the LED...

Anyone try adding thermometers to log vapes?

i started with a log vape - ohm's law to set current in a nichrome wire to reach 400F. i added a BBQ thermometer to see what was happening with the heater ... after some years i switched to a PWM design after getting a PWM module on eBay to see how that worked ... which led to using a MAX6675...

The Bud Toaster - (currently: Model 14, version 3)

well, it isn't advised to take out the oven tube due to the way the k-type thermocouple and the RT probe for the BBQ thermometer are tucked between the ribbon and the oven tube ... i'm sure there is a better way to mount them, but this currently works, is very reliable. i have labored over the...

Bump this thread if you're VAPED now!

in a sativa mindset this morning ... meditation on shutting down one of my Win7 pcs, and two more and a server to go ... Nurse Jackie is helping me through this existential crisis (speaking of the pandemic, of course) ... ahhhhhhh, thank-you Jackie .... feels good ... BUMP!! (and a half!)

Welcome to FC! i am honored that your first post was in my thread. best of luck on your vape. Which glass tube are you referring to? there are three: the oven tube, inside the body of the cube; the vial, which holds the herb and drops into the oven tube; and, the draw tube, which is...

    winterization info

yes, all day long. i do expectorate a little bit, but i guess i'm used to it now, after 20 years. the defining measure is if what i am doing negatively affects my aerobics on the NordicTrack, and vaping has no adverse effect. thank-you for this data point, i have been trying to find the...

lower temp and shorter time? sounds like it would be less complete extraction - but with so much cannabis around i guess it doesn't matter anymore.

how is that done? does Butane not extract the wax? this (wax) is what keeps me from concentrates, except RSO. @darbarikanada - i think the higher temperatures needed to do dabs is a factor and there is more wax - versus flower - the wax is concentrated, too. maybe.

    Making Concentrates Edible

i use the Ardent NOVA to decarb herb before i do an ethanol extraction. Ardent has accessories to put extracts in the NOVA. link: ardentcannabis.com NOVA takes about 90 minutes to decarb and there is no odor. i finished taking 150cc of RSO for 30 days to assist a squamous cell carcinoma...

    Arizer portable heater tech discussion

or, the heater is underpowered and/or the thermocouple/PID algorithm is faulty - i would guess the cell can't deliver enough amps on demand. i used to see this with a log vape with fixed resistance heater coil/fixed current power supply. i don't know what "slower recharge path for the heat"...

    Arizer portable heater tech discussion

exactly! i would like to see the math even for an idealized case. also, i guess i still don't understand @OF comment about the temperature sensor probe draining heat away from the herb load ... here is my thinking: the 30 gauge (0.010") k-type probe has a maximum current capacity of .142 amps...

bump ... Bud Toaster-ing some Jack Herer #4 (from the dispensary and listening to Neon Jesus on SoundCloud ... i guess that's what this 72 year old (and a half) man do ... on a Tuesday night, while i try to get into some website coding ... sigh.

    Arizer portable heater tech discussion

other design elements can reduce the current draw - for example, my heater wants to pull 20 amps (6.4 volts, .33 ohms) from my LiFePO4 batteries (they can supply 70 amps continuous) but the 16ga power cable probably limits that to below 10amps. My heater with the PWM wide open (100% duty cycle)...

    Arizer portable heater tech discussion

yes, and that's relativity … the actual voltage stays the same, but the current definitely stops for the off part of the duty cycle. in the beginning, the charts i saw of nichrome heat were indexed on current, not voltage, which gave me the flexibility, in the early days of the Bud Toaster, to...

    Arizer portable heater tech discussion

interesting … i never tried to measure my PWM output, however i think of it as gating the current - the full supply voltage is there at the heater coil, the heater resistance doesn't change, so the PWM is controlling the amps. And, from what i have read online, the temperature generated by the...

Anyone in the UK that can cut thick borosilicate glass tube?

i used to BIC the score, wrap with a squeezed out damp cloth to contain any glass fragment splatter, and try to snap. very inconsistent results requiring grinding to get rid of jaggies (spouse is into stained glass and has useful equipment). takes a lot of practice.

i definitely agree with this. i gave up sugar Oct 2018 and will never go back to that lifestyle. my daycare when i was sub-6 was a carbohydrate factory - my grandfather was a commercial baker and the donuts and pastries were my staple for many, many years. then it was beer. lasting longer...
