Welcome Qbit. Hope to hear from you and I can cut that wait time way down.
ubw - Those are some fine looking wooden tubes. You are getting quite a collection. I must try olive wood sometime. So many beautiful woods are available/affordable in that smaller size.
You are welcome. Glad to hear the tubes arrived and you are having great success. You are the first person to try one of my stainless steel tips that has been modified for the PD/MZ/WZ. They are great for conservation. The silicone Turbo Tube should have much better air flow and also hold a bit...
BDV - Thanks for the video. The beast is always hungry and ready for more. Glad the HI can keep it fed.
ubw - Those are great looking tubes. The wood turning bug is quite contagious. It feels very good to create it yourself. Are you going to use the 5/16" roasting tips or maybe some 7/16"...
BUZZHEAD - Thanks. I can't wait to be able to make you a special top.
mom - Glad you like it. Sometimes you just have to make due with what you have. I accidentally sent a customer the wrong length 13mm glass roasting tips (1" rather than 1.25"). I was playing around with the glass tube to see...
You are correct mom. I need a chunk of wood 3" x 3" x 3.5" for a full size Toasty Top. I can install a Heat Island core and even do smaller size tops (w/ HI core).
BUZZHEAD - I have had people send me wood to use for making a HI or TT. We can talk about it when the time comes. There are so...
I have made a few HI's from red cedar. It can have some really interesting coloration in the grain and the smell is very nice. I don't think that there will be any long term temperature affects. It is just more prone to dents and dings. I get my wood anyway that I can. Sometimes I cut blanks...
Jeppy- Thanks for the videos. Some mighty fine ones.
BDV - Glad the Sumac is still holding up for you. I'm finding that woods with fairly springy grain holds up better with changes in humidity than woods with rigid and brittle grain. The properties of the wood will also change over time. The...
Thanks gvape. Send me an email. I'm able to make a few things yet.
BUZZHEAD - That black walnut may still be my favorite TT. It really demonstrated that heat flows in the direction of the wood grain.
mom - Don't let your poor TT feel neglected. Give it some beeswax love. :buzz: :love...
I'm loading my roasting tube similar to how you load a Vapolution glass roasting tube but forming it into a single plug rather than leaving them as pellets. Good air flow is key as with the Vapolution.
The HI is definitely a versatile device. So many fun ways to roast. So many yet to discover.
Edward Hyde - Hope I got back to you with an email.
I am finding that combustion is a product of the heat energy being input and the surface area to which that heat energy is being applied. Stirring or grinding creates more surface area which can lead to combustion. Stirring can also block air...
mvapes - You are getting closer, but you are not warm yet.
Thanks ubw. I can make them about any length you like. Some woods are more challenging than others. The wood really does stay fairly cool to the touch.
jam - Glad the silicone tubing worked for you. It is amazing stuff. So many uses...
Glad the SS tip WonG tube arrived safely Jam. Looks like you are putting it to good use. Thanks for posting the video. Sorry to hear about your clicking finger. I used to install a short sleeve of 5/16" silicone (standard whip tubing size) over the SS leaving just the roasting tip section...
slowandsteady - I need to get busy taking some tube photos for my website. Will be much easier than trying to explain each one.
treecityrnd - I like to use analogies. Another one is that 12v vaporizers are like motorcycles and 110v vaporizers are like sports cars. They both can get you to...
Hey. Did someone call for Alan?
u bwade wunner - The DG is working well with the HI. Very open. There is hardly any drag with the HI anyhow. Have your friend send me an email and I will get him on the list. Very funny video.
BDV - I consider it just a rooster. It has no leg spurs like a...
vorrange - A treat indeed. That was a very nice video. The force is strong with you. Good temperature control technique and a nice twist of the tube on removing. Maxtration for sure.
jambandphan - That is a very nice voltage (12.2) and interesting to see only 0.56 amps. I will have to try one...
I'm sorry you took offense to my post Rick. You are entitled to your opinion. It was requested that I post a photo of my UD, so I did. I just wanted to explain the changes I had made. It was an awesome vaporizer before I made any changes. My modifications did not make it perform any better. Dave...
The_Algebraist - Thank you.
that herb guy - I treat the wood with pure beeswax. I heat up the wood and allow the wax to soak into the wood fibers. Only the outside of the tubes are waxed so it shouldn't affect the taste. The wood will develop character over time. I would recommend ethyl...
As requested, here are some photos of my UD.
This is the UD that I got from Dave in trade for a mahogany Toasty Tower with ebony legs. The Myrtle Burl is a stunning piece of wood. One of his first pieces.
I did perform some modifications. The gorilla glue was all removed including the...
Thanks so much Vapinghole. Glad your WonG arrived safely. Durban is my favorite. Just pure and simple.
BDV - Nature will always rule.
TheHerbalReview - Thanks. Glad you like them.
wonderfox - The HI-train is temporarily HI-jacked. The move is still holding me up.
that herb guy - Thanks...
My UD is Myrtle burl. Maybe that is why I tasted leather when using it. I wonder if all Myrtle burl tastes like leather. I have found that different woods do have different flavors. Fruit woods seem to always have a sweet flavor.
