Your refrigerator works best when mostly full; the goods hold the temp and the unit doesn't need to kick on as much. Same for the mass of metal being heated. You actually want more mass(to a point!) to hold more heat. The amount of metal that comprises the dish is negligible in the over all...

The beakers are bubbling, the condensors are condensing, and the converters are converting. There's so much vapor escaping the lab! Edwyn is hard at work pushing things forward, I think you'll all be very happy to see the results of his efforts...That's all I can say for now... :rockon:

If you could give new FP users only one piece of advice or tip, what would it be? This can be anything..glass style, joint style, cap vs uncapped, temp range, etc.

I thought that's what we were talking about...machined quartz...no? There has to be something above the coil(head), and below the coil(nut), to prevent the part from escaping the coil. Joining those two pieces is critical. Hard to do with two pieces of glass. A glass or quartz SH part is...
