You don't have to but I would, this is a convection vape not conduction so you don't have to leave the stem in.

Update: I tried the "soft reset" procedure with the battery out of the Air and it has seemed to fix the charging issue. Oddly what was happening was when the Air was plugged in the heater would turn on instead of charge, it would then time out at 10 min and turn off. I hope this fix lasts...

Yeah, I use my GonG like a straw and suck the herb into the chamber. Clean and simple. Advantage also goes to the adjustable GonGs in this regard. The holes in the fixed-screen GonG are larger and you can suck material through.

No, that is a bad stem, it should slide in roughly 1/2", down to the ridge on the heater tube. Contact them for a replacement.
