So, if you find the resistance to inhaling is increasing, FWIW: My 2yo solo has always been used upside down since the tiny airholes in the steel cup got clogged with popcorn gunk after about a year of stuff falling down from the packed stem. I had to take the top off and clean out the air path...

I've noticed this too and I need a higher temperature to get any vapour from ABV. I'm guessing it's because most of the more easily volatile components such as THC are mostly gone from ABV and you're dosing up on CBD and other less easily vaporised material which tends to be sedative - which is...

I do it because I think it helps air flow even when the screen is starting to clog up - air can get under the edge and down the holes - a flat clogged screen would block the holes - I know it sounds like bullshit but try doming flat screens over a pencil eraser. If I don't dome my (fine)...

Seems unlikely that the "lost" flavour disappears into the grinder so perhaps flavourful low temperature volatile terpenes might be vaporized more speedily with larger surface area so the taste might be gone quicker leading to your observation that there's "less" - I'd guess it might be more...

This probably needs someone with a proper thermometer but FWIW: 1. Plant material with a lot of carbohydrates (eg plant euthanised too quick or not well cured?) might generate caramel dark at lower temp than low carbohydrate material - does this happen with all varieties you have? 2. I have 2...

You must be more patient than me - I figure it might heat up a few seconds faster (less heat loss) if the cap is on - like boiling water in a saucepan without a lid is always slower?

Personally I grind if I want a big hit or crush a nugget in there if not. The solo seems to extract either pretty evenly. <science>Mass of a fixed volume depends on the density of the material contained</science> <guesswork> so less air = more herb = probably more mass. My bet would be that...

My AU$2c worth: Compare fresh herb with your ABV under strong light with a 10x or 20x magnifying loupe. You should see lots of waxy, shiny trichomes in the fresh herb and more or less none or in the ABV - that suggests you probably liberated most of the active ingredients out of the material...

Seems like you got vaked so maybe the solo and that weed are working fine despite unmet cloud expectations. It happens. Enjoy. :smug:

Summary: I'm voting strain related. Longer version: FWIW: I think I've seen this with (eg) OG sativa heavy strains we sometimes get - they have plenty of low temperature vapourizable stuff and reasonable buzz, but relatively short cloud producing sessions and not much more with higher temps...

My Oz experience FWIW: I shipped a DOA one back to the fleaBay seller - but I'd submitted the warranty form on the Arizer site and discovered that there's an Australian rep who got in touch with me and offered to replace it - even though I'd bought it from fleaBay. Check with Arizer...

Anyone else found that the restricted draw using a stock stem the Solo can be made to feel less restricted if you let a side stream of fresh air leak in beside the stem? Forgive the tl;dr post but read on if you're interested in a stock stem fresh air leak method = a new acronym sfalm - a DIY...

+1 on a reputable dealer - fleebay or otherwise. It's definitely wise to go with a reputable dealer - although in all fairness ebay arguably has some 'reputable' high volume high feedback sellers and Arizer seems to replace DOA units without question to all legit sellers. I need international...

    Maintaining the High You Want

You mean like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabinoid_receptor ? G coupled receptors can have many hour recovery times. There are only a certain number of them in your body so once they've all fired, you won't feel much effect from more cannabinoids coming in. That's why a dope fast works so...

Like mOsh says, one reliable way to see where there are air paths is by blowing smoke or vapour back into a stock stem inserted into a cold solo - I just did and I think you'll find that it comes out wherever it can including the top holes, those bottom ventilation holes and around the channels...

Yes. There's no other air path with a stock stem and stock tight fitting grommet although from my testing, air enters mostly from the holes around the edge of the top and from the ventilation holes near the charger socket at the bottom and a little bit of air leaking in through the channels...

AFAIK the only way air gets into your herb with a stock stem and a normal O ring is through those 4 tiny holes after flowing from the air vents in the cap, down between the SS cup and the ceramic heating chamber. I've made mine bigger by reaming them out with definite improvement in air flow...

Just to add weight to the suggestions above: in addition to inverting the solo so no plant matter is touching the hot stainless steel cup as suggested by bluerap00, I've noticed that if the bud has a high carbohydrate content, those sugars will oxidise at relatively low temp giving that burnt...

Exactly what I think you can do if you smile a little and allow a small leak - without needing the pvhes. Better - you control the size of the leak as you want more or less resistance.

Fair enough although I'd still recommend smiling as often as you can anyways, Dreamerr :) So why cut any notches at all then if it's grip you're after? I had guessed they were cut in the inner surface where it mates with the glass in order to allow some air leakage? As always, YMMV.
