    Sativa or Indica

Well of course - the same is also true of all farmed familiars like grapes, apples, cows.... They are constantly being selected (bred) by people who are trying to optimise profit somehow, somewhere. I'm pretty sure we generally get much higher THC content now than we did back then (late 60's)...

Ah, yes. They sure don't make nostalgia like they used to..... :)

Good news. Replacement arrived. It works. I like it but know it needs some work to get right. Tight draw = slow airflow = better temperature regulation I guess. Fair trade off for me.

Pot smokers might not turn into dopes after all

http://www.nature.com/news/pot-smokers-might-not-turn-into-dopes-after-all-1.12207 Full disclosure: I've spent most of my professional career doing chronic disease research in large human cohorts and clinical experiments and teaching other people how to do it. My 2c: Observational studies suck...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

I'm relying on a cheap chinese thermistor - I've never tried calibrating it. I think I need to calibrate and poke an industrial one in my herb like http://fuckcombustion.com/members/hippie-dickie.924/ Few sane people will let you get at those receptors inside their heads since it generally...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

I was using my usual old skool ebay sourced dual digital hotbox ceramic heater/whip so I have good control over the set point and can monitor the temperature of air from the heater element to control the extraction. The vapour is cool by the time it's travelled through a few feet of silicone...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

Definitely did not like the taste and didn't get the sense that I was more vaked after using the same dose of the same material I've been using lately. Back to 180c for me - where I get the same effects but with a much more pleasant aesthetic experience while vaping - that's important to me - I...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

That's interesting - thanks for sharing. I have tried higher temps in the past but usually end up going back lower because of the harshness - and because I've seen blackened specks near the edges of the ABV under the loupe. I'm going to try starting around 210c instead of my usual 180c later...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

I collect it in a little wooden box to keep my room tidy. Once it fills, I usually end up tossing it despite all my intentions of trying some abv recipes - I know for sure that it's not worth smoking but as discussed above, that doesn't mean it's lacking all medicinal qualities! I think if I ran...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

Interesting - thanks. Since it's an old chemistry paper, those temps are almost certainly celsius. I didn't pay to read it all but it looks like not much going on to the cellulose at 190c - there's hardly any change in composition in the 190c row of the table. OTOH...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

maybe it's a personal thing and almost certainly strain/variety/cure/storage related too - but I definitely do not get much of the buzz I like out of the last 10% or so of the vapour that can be squeezed out of a nugget. I've tried vaporizing (and even combusting) stored ABV on a relatively...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

+1. As the volume of vapour decreases during a session, the taste changes dramatically - losing all those delicious early spicy resiny strain specific flavours as it becomes increasingly 'smoky' tasting. That last few litres of thin sour vapour don't seem to do much for me so I don't see much...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

You are my hero, Hippie Dickie - sticking a temp probe into a wad of bud is heroic enough but having the presence of mind to remember what happened while you took a few draws is the mark of a truly dedicated scientist  Your findings make sense to me - the slow steady draw is the best...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

Excellent. Stay skeptical but do your own experiments - I've convinced myself that I can feel different effects by using different temps but the differences are in terms of psychoactives so subtle, varying with the material to hand, hard to pin down and above all subjective. YMMV. That...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

Funny thing is I like digital readouts and use them all the time to try to improve my technique - I don't think they can do much harm as long as you remember they don't mean what they say. My espresso machine has a simple computer PID to control the temperature. I usually use a plug in vape -...

Vaporization temperature dependent selection of effects

This is a great thread and since we're talking about extraction temperature, it got me thinking that we should not take the digital readout (or the manufacturers claimed temp preset) as being the temperature we're vaping at - it's more complex than that! For example, if you've ever used one of...
