I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned several times (or more). It appears that running the unit on max for ~hour burns it off. I don't recall anyone having a continuing problem though or needing to return the unit due to this.

I had forgotten that the fan model was changed to one that is encased. You might try compressed air or turning the blades by hand lest debris has somehow gotten lodged inside. I can't determine if the bearing is accessible with this design. I found it avail at pchub.com.

@BCVapo, If you heard a noise from the fan and there is not something hitting the blades, it is most likely the bearing. The fan is a Delta, good quality. You shouldn't have difficulty finding a replacement. IIRC the fan uses a standard 2-pin connector to the board, so very easy job to do...
