As a simple fix for the air holes just use a bit of bees wax - that is if that area doesn't get hot? Or even a small wide elastic band like the MFLB one should do the trick.

Hmmm. I think Arizer did make a few minor mods on the 2012 model - that might be one of them - though for me I'd find that annoying as a 1 degree change would be hardly any different. Did his seem 'newer / advanced' at all? And 1 is definitely not a V-Tower?
