The HighLighter (Glass-Core Open-Source Halogen Log) Kit Hosted by REFC Labs

Nope, I am purchasing pre-made bulbs. I don't think making custom bulbs for a 69$ kit is going to be worth the time, frankly. We wanted something cheap, easy, and ubiquitous, so we have not chosen to use custom or hard to find materials. These may work but may also add complexity, cost, and a...

I'll check in with my POS provider. I am not happy this is an issue! For those having issues, I'd advise ensuring your browser is up to date, or trying a different browser. Some companies aren't the best about honoring standards and this stuff does happen on occasion.

Good info here! I wanted to touch on some quirks of halogen and why we chose the bulb and power levels we did. A typical halogen running at full tilt runs about 900DF average. So either we need to find a creative way to use 900 degrees, or we adjust. So we built off of the standard VVPS that...

Thanks! Yes - I should be able to add it. I've been adding shipping zones as requested so if you don't see your country, let me know and I'll see what I can do to get it added :) Thanks for confirming! Registering usually just dumps you to the last page you were on, and doesn't confirm...

I'm not sure what's causing that, I just registered one of my other personal addresses without an issue. If you have a customer account, DM me and I'll tag you as subscribed so you can rest easy.

I promise it won't be too long. For those that did not receive the release notification be sure to use the "Subscribe" function in the footer of my site. That adds you to email communication which is usually the only pre-release notice that goes out.

Thank you to all of those who bought a kit tonight! I *should* have these out the door for tomorrow (if not, tues morning latest). Just double checking things prior to buttoning up the first batch here. Expect another run soon! Tentatively within a week or so, as long as things go as planned! I...

Just started turning some of the blanks I have for heat shields, hoping to have at least a few ready to go at launch :)

    >Why? Worried about heat causing cracking around the cut? Or an impact causing it to break, if jarred. You are probably aware that boro tube like this is circumferentially scored, then snapped in half, to "cut". My concern is you've made half of that score by removing a portion of the tube...

NIce work! Vents were considered but we decided against adding significant rework to the kit for cost, ability, and physical strength reasons. I'd suggest polishing these vents if you haven't, yet. Nor have we tested this, fwiw. I'm curious to hear if you notice any change in performance.

Yes, there should be some play to the balls :) They should be loose and / or rattle a little bit. We accounted for CoE on the glass as well as the interior dimensions - this is normal. Small gaps are fine, but you shouldn't have any major voids. Looks pretty close! A #111 70 Durometer silicone...

IDK if he posts here often or a lot, but TRRW made a wood handle for his! This is way cool, and a completely different design I wasn't expecting - Nice job!

I typically use a regular ol' bent lab clamp on a naked core (seen in pics in this thread). My daily driver is actually still the first functional core I built back in Dec or Jan some time, which I crammed into this bocote heat shield, the second functional heat shield so far. I have a canary...

The HighLighter (Glass-Core Open-Source Halogen Log) Kit Hosted by REFC Labs

I am personally and publicly advising against this. This heater is most ideally situated in a horizontal or Core up position. Core down means heat convects up the back of the tube towards the oring and wires. While no one has reported this being an issue yet, I cannot advise it as an ideal...

The HighLighter (Glass-Core Open-Source Halogen Log) Kit Hosted by REFC Labs

Waiting lists aren't something I have done, yet. I know it's pretty common in this industry for lower bandwidth makers like myself. I'm not opposed to the idea, but would need to organize it in a supportable and sustainable way that can cohabitate with the plans to make the kit a regular item...

The HighLighter (Glass-Core Open-Source Halogen Log) Kit Hosted by REFC Labs

Tentatively yes. I would like to have it available to foreign markets as well. Shipping won't taste good but I think the cost of the kit will help a lot. The kit should be releasing in just over a week or so. It will be released in small batches to start, and depending on adoption rate, will...

IF you were the one who originally bought that stand, you inspired me to, as well. I snagged one a few months back. I put a plastic liner on the inner cutout to prevent any scuffs to my prized LSV collection :) These stands are far too big. Actually... a near perfect stand would be a ceramic...

I appreciate your patience! Just letting the first round of full kits do their job and show me what, if anything, needs to be changed, fixed, or updated. So far so good, the only thing we've learned is that the lab clamp is really hard to bend for most people, so it will probably get axed from...

The HighLighter (Glass-Core Open-Source Halogen Log) Kit Hosted by REFC Labs

I had to set them out of stock. Those were up for some devs to get spare parts. I haven't even published the full build instructions or documentation yet, and want to be sure those are available and proofed before I let things rip. The few who managed to sneak some parts orders in... I will...

Yes, I do plan on shipping internationally. The design spec for wood heat shields will be released soon so anyone can make and sell them. This part was meant as a gift to the community so owners can take their business to any artist they choose. And Thanks! Hope everyone likes it!
