What's the rolled material inside the heat shield? The official heat shield design has a 1" hole and a 29mm recess on each side, and secures the core by 3x M4x22 O-rings. Just mentioning for anyone that plans to make one. The portion that holds the core is *very* simple on purpose.

I've bought 5 of this unit (the one I linked) from this manufacturer and am 5/5 so far. Agreed they are all the same and QC can be hit-miss. Just linking the one I have had the best luck with, since quality has been questionable across batches of these from different supply chains. If the one...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1LV2CM This is the one I've been recommending. Any decent 12v 5v VVPS with a 5.5mm connector should be sufficient. If you want to get a bit more serious, a decent lab "bench" power supply can also be had for about 60 bucks or so and will produce the same results...

The silicone split-bushing is really cool - where did you get that? The spec I have on the heat shields is 2.25 inner diameter for the clearance. The very first heat shield test had a cavity of 1 5/8" (the biggest blank size I had at the time) and that was insufficient for shedding enough heat...

I put a few extra in stock for ya. I'm only listing parts as needed since part sales take away from kit sales, and I'm trying to get as many kits out as I can while I have supplies in stock for round 1.

I had no idea Elev8 did custom etched grinders, but I just had to add one to my LSV collection to match :)

I picked up one of the smaller silicone rests, and am liking it so far for naked cores. It seems to work well and is a very accommodating size. Here's a test run with 4 hot cores for a video I shot earlier - I feel swanky, this thing is pretty rad. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082MQ92H5

The milky white you're speaking of - is this tungsten trioxide on the inside of the quartz package from the filament burning up? Or something else? The bulbs are sealed, so I would not expect that to escape unless there was a catastrophic failure. The risk of which is greatly reduced by running...

Can you elaborate on your testing methods? How did you discover this, and what can others do to stay safe? I'm not aware of any quartz that can offgas, so I'm guessing this is ROHS/ pin related?

Here's the part spec from the BOM: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071G37ZW The bulbs can't be over 10-11mm in Dia, .5" is 12.7mm and may be a clearance issue. Edit - they appear to be OOS on these, I'm ordering a set of these to validate: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NV8Q34G Bulb dia on these is...

There are a few tutorials on YT that explain how to assemble it and what everything is. Panic and I have both made one. A few other users are in the process of putting some material together as well. It actually takes longer to watch the vid that it does to assemble. At some point I do plan on...

I metered current draw at about ~2.7a around 6.8v. Using this assumed-correct draw value, 2.7a*7.3v= 19.71 watts. So you're still around 40% provided the current draw is no higher. Which I'd suspect. Even the big desktops like the SSV / LSV / Dit that use ceramic elements use ~25watt elements...

Our main design goal was specifically avoiding custom parts, which adds cost, complexity, and reduces availability by a substantial margin. This is one of the things that sets this kit apart from other more proprietary solutions and we consider this a benefit. You are right, Quartz-Halogen is a...

The bulb socket also holds the glassballs in, right? Yes, the bulb socket is the rear bead retainer (along with a small piece of ss heater wire to block the base's screw holes which are just over 3mm). And if you pull the wire, it's easy to pull it out? Yes, it's friction fit. You can pull the...
