The LSV has a combo 18mm ST female as well as a male ball joint, so both work. Quite honestly I've never used the ball portion and always opt for the 18mm fm for basket packs and stem packs.

To some degree, yes. Some of the angles and profile shapes were chosen ahead of time, however some things like oven depth and size were manipulated to effect. The exterior shape is a function of the interior. It's what's left over when I took away everything I didn't really need :)
