    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Thanks for the detailed messages! Good suggestions all around. A lot of that is in line with the thinking currently. Mainly to focus on the core product and finish up the already promised accessories before getting into any new ones.

USB PD is in the works for future products. The external charger uses it. There was a lot of software and hardware development needed to get this to work well, and be compliant. Part of the reason the external charger took so long + it was pushed by fixing the core device. PD is a cool tech, and...

Another big request over the years is capsules or some type of preload system. Going to put this into the accessories section. We have played with some designs over the years but have not nailed down a design that takes on-the-go use to new levels. A cooler mouthpiece is an active area of...

Will get to them all, a few at a time. Dimming could be nice, difficult to implement easily but we will be keeping it in mind. Maybe combine with "stealth mode" The 18650 Grasshopper has been asked for a lot over the years. It is on our minds for sure but right now we are focused on keeping...

Is this a mode where the lights are totally off? What is your vision for it?

Thanks for the feedback. We understand what matters most at the end of the day is that users see an improvement and that is what we are working towards. If we are doing as well as we say, most people will see better results. Thanks! We look forward to having you as part of the Grasshopper...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Of course, context is important. We are tracking this as simple devices shipped over the number of failures seen from the last 6 months. We will expand this and have more data as time passes. We are confident based on testing and the past 4 years of data collected on most of the systems...
  8. Hopper Labs

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

There is no way to know with 100% certainty at any point, for any product, that they will "last". This is more of a question of what % of devices have problems 1 year, 5 years, 10 years down the road. We do accel life testing to give us ideas on this of course and are confident that these...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Well, to your first question, what has changed, short answer, a lot in some ways little in others. I could probably fill a book on the history of Hopper Labs just so far, but here is a quick overview for context. We had the crowdfunding campaign, delivery was very delayed, but we did eventually...
  10. Hopper Labs

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Yes. All new Hoppers will also ship with the new batteries that are arriving. We hold very little stock and there are no old stock batteries to put into new units.
  11. Hopper Labs

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Certainly a valid concern but in this case, there is litterally no "new old stock" to send out.

No. There are no revisions to the cell, so they remain GHB2. Due to an error at the label factory (a subcontractor to the battery factory), we are back to glossy labels for now. We are in discussions to relabel some of the later shipments to matte but obviously did not want to hold up an...

The effect a hot backend will have on extraction will be somewhat dependent on use. If you draw really fast and hard normally then a hot backend will likely have a greater effect. What you said is likely true for most users. Where the bigger effect is less battery life and slightly longer heat...

Soaking the body fully is not a good idea at this time. Surface cleaning with a wet q-tip is great (let it dry out after). Using compressed air to blow out debris in the air holes should help keep things clear.

For drying it out that is true with any liquid solvent. We can't recommend soaking the whole backend right now. Among other things, we don't know how long various solvents will take to dry safely in different environments. ISO will not hurt the PCB, that part we can be sure of.

Some ISO and light scrubbing is fine. Be sure to let it dry. Another option is some 600 grit sandpaper. This will easily remove build-up without causing damage. The other recommendations above seem like they would work as well. Interesting suggestion. We don't have any info on this approach...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

It may contribute, but there are other factors at play with backend heating. There are a series of contacts inside the backend. The total resistance of these contacts is a significant value. The higher this resistance is, the more heat will be generated as we move power through the connections...
  18. Hopper Labs

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

To some degree yes. The charger will use a varying amount of power depending on a few factors on the device itself. Yes, using it with a 1.5A or even 2A UL USB brick is totally fine.
  19. Hopper Labs

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

There should not be a problem with 1A. I can only speak to the safety of the supplied charger.
  20. Hopper Labs

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

If you order a new Hopper it will come with a new battery from our last production batch. Not the one that is yet to come in. Some chargers will give you a capacity (amount of power they put into the battery) reading, but that is not a good indicator of true battery health for the hopper's...
