Arizer Solo 3

Yes! As usual, fortunately, when I got it, I did have a brief bit of panic, when I thought perhaps only the volume could be adjusted down lol just need to turn the notification setting to off is all, and rely on only the screen instead
wait, haptic feedback doesn't work with the beep off??

Do you have to do that weird button combo to unlock every time you want to use the Solo 3? Do you have to go through a bunch of menus to select what mode you want to be in? What is the shortest path from picking it up cold to vaporizing?

When you turn it on, it asks you if you want to enter on demand or session mode, so it's an extra click if you are going into the mode you were last using, or an extra two clicks if you are switching modes... You can also switch modes at any point holding down the left arrow, while the right arrow will take you into settings for each mode (this is where you would control the beep notifications and timer etc)... Session mode begins heating to whatever temp set, you can wake it and adjust up or down, singularly or by ten degrees at a time, while on demand mode takes you to the main screen where you would press the up button to begin heating to your last temp setting (the down button will stop the heating regardless of your timer or temp setting) and tapping the center button twice allows you to choose that temp setting... The max time setting available for the auto shut off timer is 20 minutes, so you only have to turn on and unlock at that point (or hold down the center button to turn it off at any moment manually) and I have already adapted to the unlock code fairly quickly, although it was initially frustrating... (mine did not have the pattern as easily accessible as it will be for all others since it was beta they will have the code on the screen sticker)

@Shit Snacks I preordered one of these a few days ago... gonna be my first Arizer product! 😁

I did a search for "Arizer air 3" and "haptic" (which in hindsight is NOT a good way to get "factual" search results lol) but the top hit was from 420tools(dot)com's sales listing for the device...and they have haptic feedback right there as a feature. 🤦🏻‍♂️

(My first clue should've been that Arizer 's listing didn't get a hit from that search.)

Thanks again ...I'm at least glad I can turn off the beep! 😅

Haha yeah I've never had any experience with that website, but they should correct their info, not sure how they made that mistake... Also there is no Air 3 ;)

So you guys that are receiving units are all beta testers?

Edit: I'd be interested in any custom stems you find too 🙂
Purchased mine second hand from someone so no beta testing constraints.

So 80% convection / 20% conduction is incorrect?

I would flip the percentages around, that’s my 2 cents on how I interpret the vapor here.

Wow ok. Lucky to have it early.

Sure, these percentages in my mind are less important than the overall vapor quality and experience. Interested to hear what you think after testing is done.

I don't know about the others, but I noted I was sent mine for testing and to share thoughts here (sent them some early feedback direct before posting here and I'll also do a review on their website)

Good Vibes Boro is very interested in making some, however he needs the proper dimensions, so hopefully that will be possible soon... 420EDC has really nice looking stems so that would be my go-to recommendation otherwise (maybe they can provide the dimensions to GVB) JoDa can also do custom stems for Solo I think? Others I'm sure

So 80% convection / 20% conduction is incorrect?

I don't know, it's not really that simple to break it down, as there are many variables in how you use it, to maximize one or the other... Although it is still the same classic tech, there is also more power, among other changes most likely

Both in on demand and session modes?

I think you can get more convection in on demand mode yes, gives you more control over everything, so you could do a one-hitter that way well enough especially short and quick at a higher temp setting (it might be a good idea to leave some room when loading the herb in the bowl of the stem however since that and can get much darker before extracting the rest this way)

Sure, these percentages in my mind are less important than the overall vapor quality and experience

Yes, exactly, I think it is a true hybrid ultimately, a bit more versatile and capable now, but still a session oriented device... Remember on demand mode is like single hitter or mini session, so the use experience is still pretty automatic overall, despite extra manual control, while much lower temps are possible with session mode

I doubt that the manufacturer got this data wrong. The on demand mode performance proves it too as the glass is cold but it still pumps out massive clouds.
There is a lot more conduction in session mode after 3 or so minutes once the glass has fully heated up due to the load just sitting there getting cooked for 5-10 mins.

You should doubt manufacturers more often. It's fairly common that they misrepresent or get specs wrong, and arizer is no exception.

In the case of the Solo, it's less what mode you are in and more how you manipulate the stem. If you only have the stem in while drawing, you'll get more convection than conduction. Session or on demand, it's all down to where that stem spends it's time.

@Shit Snacks I was going to ask you about the Solo 3 vs the Tinymight 2, but since we're not supposed to compare vapes in the product threads, I created one in Ask FC... 😁

Thanks!

I do not have a Solo 3. I have an original style, actually my second original Solo; the one with the original long thread with "O-ring" tips.

Absolutely, the Solo (original) can be used in nearly 100%b convection mode. Later Solos, I do not know.
This doesn't affirm-deny anything about using the Solo as instructed/ customary.

My O-ring mode allows me to put a cold filled-stem into the Solo such that the glass barely touches the metal heat chamber.
The stem-glass-filter holes are level with the top of the vape.
The added O-ring holds the glass fast. I set the heat to seven (210 C).
Stood up on a table and left alone for several minutes, no vapor rises from the stem.
Then, a long slow draw.
The result, heated air convection taste until I need/ choose more convection to finish, so I push the stem deeper into the heater.

It works, just ask Mikey. He likes it. :sherlock:

Clever. You could do the same with the Solo 3. Or you could just insert it all the way when ever you want to take a rip and immediately remove the stem after. Both ways keep the stem away from the conduction heat source of the solo and let you pull hot air instead of radiant heat.

I haven't made a review video yet, but I've put together a solo 3 review on my website

This vape has been in daily use since it arrived over a month ago. It brings that classic arizer interface and vapor with a substantial power boost.
The on-demand mode is perfect for how I like to vape, but it's not quite like the on-demand style of the full-convection vapes.

Surprisingly, I don't like the XL bowls... they just don't perform for me :(

So the other night I had some pretty classic experience testing, brought the S3 over to my friends (she has minimal experience, used a few of mine, not frequent far apart mostly, she normally just smokes) and picked up a nice gram of tangiland, using the stock short stem regular size bowl, full packed medium to find grind, herb was pretty dry so that made it finer than I intended... Anyway passing back and forth at 340 which tasted quite lovely and was pretty great, temp stepped a bit to 365 where taste faded fully and I was ready to empty it, the effects were good, and she had a much easier time using it than the more convection oriented others we shared previously, as I had hoped!

Even better, we packed another one, and walked to get dinner, passing at 340 and then 354 was simply delightful in the cool sunsetting air outside... Then I could just blow out the spent load into a plant on the street sidewalk, let it cool and then store in my hoodie pocket, with the stem separate loose in the other one... I had brought it to her place in a nice medium ish size ego ecig case where it fit perfectly with the stem and XL wpa plus Rogue scoop n tamp also toothpick...

Anyway I have not had much experience like this in many years since pandemic kind of broke me and my habits in that way lol but this was such a nice reminder of how good it can be, and why I wanted to have a modern Solo in my arsenal again (even though I had tried with some other heavy hitting session devices previously and was very disappointed so sold them away) Yes there are a lot of variables, but when they line up this is almost beyond satisfying... And there is just such versatility, being able to use on demand in other situations as I had been through water etc.

Just got this beautiful glass hammerhead piece from Jeremy Smith on Instagram, and had a lovely low temp session dry at 340 and then 354 (finished at 358) for many nice puffs:
