The Tempest by Mad Heaters & Phatpiggie

Reply from another noob - and by the way, they like us to cluster messages together in one post where possible, and use edit to add more, unless someone else has got in between. No biggie, the mods will explain better than I!

I've got my old VVAP handheld 3-flame butane torch. It was a cheap n' cheerful thing I got when I tried a DV-M last year. It does fine, I have actually managed to heat it up on a tiny one-flame jobbie, it just took longer.

What I am finding though, is there's a lot of difference as to where you direct that flame, and also how long it takes to heat up (though less so than other more convection heavy vapes), so precision on the flame can make a difference, and I'm leaning rapidly towards getting a hated Ispire Wand to use (until MH bring out their IH at some future date). With no other criteria, I'd suggest get something with 2 or 3 flames, that's not too pricey, use it to get a feel for both 'pest and lighter, then decide what will work best as a heat source.
Thanks for your detailed reply, I'm kinda worried about using one of the flame torches because I don't trust myself not to get burned somehow LOL.

Is there anything like the iSpire Wand that maybe isn't so expensive? I think I'd prefer a heater perhaps

I misplaced my wand for a day, so found myself having to use my torches to heat my tempest and I found it a little more difficult and more of a learning curve to choose where to heat it. I also don't really like holding one of those torch lighters lit for long enough to get the Tempest going. It was certainly doable but I found the wand was much easier. The Wand is about 100 bucks and that's fairly reasonable for a decent induction heater. Right now, most of the others don't have a receiver big enough for the Tempest, which is slightly bigger than the cap size we're used to from Dynavap.

I have also tried the torch quite a few times and i get much better results with the wand..

@cybrguy they were asking about the “body” .. not mouthpiece. Just pointing out it could possibly be used the way you have pictured. The MH wood stem sits a little better, but I won’t use it that way either.

Yeah sounds like the wand is the best option, I can't seem to find it online in Europe for under about €130 which is a bummer.

Well just be careful with an IH too then, that head will be just as hot when it's ready!
I had a look around but most of what's out there may not be suitable, either too low powered, or not the right functions (timing, power settings), not correct diameter receiver, not able to set the depth, while also hiding the view of the temperature gauge, etc etc. From all the comments I've read, those who have 'em, seem to rate the Wand as the best for the money.

Use coupon code VAPOSPY10 to get 10% discount. That brings the price down to 107.10 €.

I bought my Wand there as well.

It's about 90 Bucks delivered from the vapelifestore here in the U. S. https://www.thevapelifestore.com/products/the-wand-enail-dabbing-kit
I know they ship overseas, but I don't know what it would cost.

Absolutely a consideration. I handed mine to a friend after heating it the other day, and he was high enough that he completely forgot my instructions to not touch the head. I called out as he reached for it, but it was too late. Major ouch...

Quick question. I managed to snag a purple tempest on Thu with an extra titanium mouth piece (that should be a sweet looking combo) and it is already on it’s way 😀

Anyone knows what size of zirconia balls are included (2.5 or 3 mm)?

Also, current bowl screens are how much larger than the final ones? (I have a bunch of screens in various sizes, wondering if any of them will fit better)

UK has a few suppliers too (for EU customers), though from comments above, it seems us Rosbif's have to pay a premium for the pleasure!
Cheapest one I found was £115!!!!!!! FFS! And I'm hearing of $90! Jeez, if it weren't for the delivery times and cost ...

Slightly better / final VI and 3mm balls, it’s pretty much still the same. No clicks.
Comes with a few o-rings, direct tube, SCU, wand adapter and 10 screens which are not the final size.
This is from a post on the 17th so he may be using 3mm balls right now. @Brenyo was responding to a question about what's different on this drop...

Received the tempest on Friday, packed my tidow ball vape away so I can concentrate just on the tempest for now

I'm hoping for the tempest to be my midweek go to smoke and my tidow for weekend / session smoking.

I love being able to clear a bowl on my tidow in 2 hits and have been experimenting with the tempest and getting some good results with both the wand and lighter.

For anyone who has the wand and tempest for some time what combination and setting have you found is the sweet spot for you?

So far on the wand I'm at 585 heating until timeout with the wand upside down so the heat doesn't rise into bud, direct tube fully open (carb cap closed)

I find that setting is working well but feel I'm missing out on some flavour doesn't matter if I drop temps.

Wand depth is hugely important, check the new instructions Brenyo provided for some good pictures. 1mm up or down on the height of your adaptor can make a big difference (there may be some variations in wand depth/coils so best to experiment, you will find your sweet spot). I usually use the wand about 320c until timeout, half open on the cap, closed stem, direct tube with no SCU.

That sounds right, I'm still on a lighter, and finding the exact positioning of the flame makes considerable difference above and beyond the actual temperature (within the limits of the indicators precision).

You coukd get a single flame kitchen torch that can stand on its own, and has a safety lock to prevent accidental usage. I have 10 thumbs, but this type of torch doesn't worry me.

Also, a leather piece to handle a hot cap helps on any butane portable.

Slainte! An bhfuil Gaeilge agat a chara?!

Anyways I use my wand set up a lil different than the manual. I use the wand insert lower, basically at the top of the markings (aka the markings all the way in the wand). I run it around 550F sometimes going down to 500F but never going beyond 550F for me.

I run it just dropped into the wand adapter so not worried about heat or the drippings, I run a bit of everything from hash to bud. I run the air cap on the head fully open, carb cap open 1/3and the direct tube with the helix installed.
