If you zoom right in, I think it's the bottom plate has taken a hit and dented that portion some. The wood is likely perfect. Removing the bottom panel would show the story. Might just need a new bottom panel. Only quark is the serial number transfer.

Adding a spacer turns down the power as less metal in the heating zone. Changes the heating profile.
EDIT: Also, the previous method for heat shield was ba dense hard high heat rubber, so you might have a unit in that era. :hmm:
