@Abele Rizieri Ferrari I gotta tell you, as an American, the idea that civilians can be held responsible and killed due to the actions of their government makes me very uncomfortable.

The Bush régime murdered upwards of a million people during his illegal invasion of Iraq. By President Herzog's logic it would be fair game for any military force sympathetic to Iraq to murder me and my family. Because we didn't overthrow the Bush régime.

I mean, the American Government murdered about 3.5 million people in Vietnam. My government has committed many acts of terror. Sorry, but I don't care for the implication that every civilian living in a country with a shitty government can be murdered with impunity. Collective punishment is a war crime.

US wasn't at war with an Islamic country when they got attacked

Only from a certain point of view. We were conducting siege warfare against the people of Iraq, starving them out with sanctions all through the 90's. When we weren't directly doing airstrikes. And during the first Gulf War our airstrikes targeted civilian infrastructure.

There was also Bill Clinton's attack on the same day Monica Lewinsky was due to testify:

Of course, I think it's absurd for Bin Laden to hold civilians in New York responsible for these acts. I also think it's absurd to do the same in Gaza; an area where there hasn't been an election since 2006 and 47% of the population is under the age of 14.

Beyond question, don't get me wrong. But making a weak comparison with Bin Laden in stead of attacking the issue on its obvious problems, to me at least, is a disservice to the real criticism. I mean, in a broader analysis the comparison is worth mentioning. A similarity is there and it's alarming. As an isolated statement though I find the argument off target. But anyway I kind of fell in the same trap I'm accusing the author of, as the analysis of this one tweet also misses the real problem with the defense of civilian casualties by a person in power.

I saw it and it was great. It did a pretty fantastic job of capturing the experience of the Eras tour. It is definitely up there with my favorite concert movies: Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars & Summer of Soul.

I can't get over her hitting the peak of her popularity 18 years into her career. This has to be unprecedented.

I don;t know if I've listened to one of her songs since the first Obama term. But every American owes Taylor and her Swiftie Army a debt of gratitude for saving the economy.

This may be her peak, and I feel fortunate to have seen her perform at this amazing point. Although Taylor always surprises so she may have even more to come.

I think the whole Taylor Swift fandom and phenomenon is adorable. Sincerely. Let people like things.

Also, selfishly, I like that the biggest pop star in the world is 33. One last Millennial Victory before the Zoomers fully take over pop culture.

This is something that has worried me for a while.

Dummies act like concern over climate change is just about the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees. But climate change is going to threaten the survival of human civilization in ways that have nothing to do with the seas rising.

There will be more war. Famine. Refugees. And we're also thawing out viruses that no living thing on earth has any immunity to. Very cool stuff.

I will sum it up for you, humanity is fucked.

Time to check out the headlines for today. I wonder what super cool stories await me!

The only modern country without universal healthcare. Over half a million citizens sleep outside like animals every night. Millions more are a few unlucky weeks away from joining them. Crumbling infrastructure. Nearly nonexistent public transport.

Because the richest country in the history of civilization "can't afford it".

But hell yeah we can afford two wars! Especially when one of those "wars" is just using Raytheon and Lockheed products to turn children into pink mist en masse.

A former police officer who allegedly stole drugs out of the evidence lock-up and sold them to an informant is expected to accept a plea deal in lieu of a hefty prison sentence.

That sounds about right. Reminds me of this story:

Besides highlighting that cops are some of the biggest criminals in the country, it also shows what bullshit Republican rhetoric on the border is.

A "wall" isn't gonna stop fentanyl from coming into America. Fentanyl comes in through normal ports of entry and the fucking mail. No point in physically walking it over the border.

Also, before we launch a war against Mexico over the opioid crisis, can we at least execute ONE member of the Sackler Family? As a little treat?

From the picture thread :

In the meantime in Europe :

LOL imagine believing you can tell the French they can't protest.

It's not much better in Dumbfuckistan. Here are agents of the Fourth Reich roughing up Jews outside of the White House.

I love that one hog's little "Thin Blue Line" hat. What a joke.

Since the American press is back to it's old post-9/11 insanity, The Onion is now the paper of record.

Let me be clear: 100% of these deaths (seems to be mostly children) are Joe Biden's fault. He gave the greenlight for this with his full chest.

Remember, that motherfucker not only voted for Bush's illegal Iraq War, he whipped votes for it. He went on TV to manufacture consent for it. Gotta be honest, it seems that Catholic Joe, who looks like he's about to die at any second, is trying to get a fastpass into Hell in his waning days.

The IDF is trying to shirk responsibility by saying "they don't target hospitals" which is a bald faced lie. They literally announced their intention to bomb the hospital 3 days ago.

They're calling out their shots like Babe Ruth, yet the media is taking the IDF at their word. These people are literally The Great Bambino of bombing hospitals. From 2021:

On Sunday, May 16, 2021, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza killed at least 42 people, including 10 children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, and damaged a Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) trauma and burns care clinic, the international medical humanitarian organization said today.

Also a good reminder that history did not begin on 10/7/23.

Sounds like you're just mad that capitalism breeds innovation.

The innovation:

Tell that to the cartels, I live in Arizona and that shit gets walked across all the time. They smuggle the shit over the Tohono Oodham reservation. They smuggle M-30's, fentanyl pills by the millions. People that don't live here think they know what's going on at the border. They don't. I was born here and have seen first hand the destruction the cartels have brought to the border. Something needs to be done to the cartels. The government in Mexico is totally corrupt, bought and paid for . Nothing short of regime change will cure the cartels.

In 2022, fentanyl was responsible for 200 deaths every day. Over a quarter of a million Americans have died from a fentanyl overdose since 2018. In 2022, 73,654 people died from a fentanyl overdose in the US, more than double the amount of deaths from three years prior in 2019.

Just one more war bro! Please bro! This time it will be different bro I promise bro! Sure Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq all blew up in our fucking faces....but a war literally on our border will be super cool and easy bro!

You want an even worse refugee crisis? This is how you get it.

I agree the opioid crisis is awful. But I literally posted a story about a fucking COP importing fentanyl from India through the mail. You want to invade India too?

If there's a demand for drugs...they're gonna find their way into the country. We can't even keep drugs out of PRISONS.

In case anyone was wondering how well a wall on the border would work, lol.

If dropping trillions on another war is on the table, maybe we can spend a percentage of that on drug treatment and improving economic conditions in this country? People who have a decent life are less likely to want to use fentanyl in the first place.
