But the customs lady thinks it is more likely that it got lost after customs or they would have marked it as empty package.
Sure hope it arrives
Two gone, that's not good. Same city perhaps?
Get hold of Ben, he has acknowledged that sending the grinder internationally in just a padded bag was a mistake. He has already apologized for his fuck-up and is organizing boxes for future shipments.
but it is a disaster waiting to happen if the grinder is full.
Yep, I had one miss-hap already.
If you do not want a magnet, just ask Ben for a version without a magnet and he will oblige as it means less work to fit the magnet.

I really like the idea of offering the option but no magnet would be a deal breaker for me. I go hiking and camping for long weekends and like to carry a grinder and fresh herb in my bag. Also I’m clumsy sometimes and knock things off the table. A strong magnet has saved plenty of herb from spilling.

I'm quite sure you can straighten it out since they are interchangeable?
Yes it neededjust a little alignment, you were right.

Btw since it arrived I hardly put it down, it's just so smooth and satisfying to just spin and spin it. I'm sure I'll get tired of playing with it eventually, but for now I think I will also use it for decision making haha a quick spin of the lid and:
Old Mate UP? Yes!
Old Mate reversed? No!

But seriously very high quality build, the grind is a bit on the finer side for me, but it's very good for the TM so I'm not complaining! I enjoy using it more than my BCG, as compared to a toothed grinder: the experience is just easier and enjoyable, the spin feature is genius.

Old & In the Way
The top magnet in mine seems very strong, forgive me, but more like for a stronger person (a man?) to deal with. My wife has been pretty turned off by the shear weight, she hasn't even tried to grind anything yet...or even spin it!?!?!

When I turn the top to grind, I grab the scooped edges; when I grab it to open for filling I grab on the thin rim that's visible below those scallops. But trying to open like a clamshell (a la the BCG) is foiled by the snug fit of the bearing, which requires a more straight upward pull. This is probably the the hardest way to break the magnet's grip...

A magnet-less (or simply a much weaker mag?) top has some appeal, for at home, like a desktop kinda grinder. I guess a strong elastic band could then hold it together for transport.

Just to clarify, I think this OM is absolutely beautiful in both form and function.
"Om" being a pretty universal meditative chant has not escaped me.

I go hiking and camping for long weekends and like to carry a grinder and fresh herb in my bag.
This grinder weighs 1.1 pounds, not really ideal for hiking around, eh?

This is one beautiful chunk of steel.
Everything aligns perfectly. No need for more grip grooves or weaker/no magnet for me.
Kinda bummed I didn't get the numbered founders edition. It said pre-order but oh well.

Just a dude
I just saw these and they are simply gorgeous and the bring looks lush. Also love that they’re in stainless steel and made in Australia. I’ve not read much at all or watched videos and I really don’t want to sound dismissive or rude but I can’t think of another way to phrase my question. Please read this with my best intentions. Hopefully some of you may know me and that I’m not a negative dude just coming round and taking the piss.

So is this a grinder with a fidget spinner incorporated on top that uses a ball bearing? Or does the grinder itself somehow use the bearing?

Thanks for helping me out and understanding that I’m not disparaging or disrespecting Old Mate and your new favourite weed tool/toy. :peace:

Yeah I think you've hit on the core issue, it is a strong magnet, that you have to pull up on, so it is even harder to break the seal of it without holding the rest and using some strong force...

Yeah man the bearing is how the grinder spins, it's just a bonus byproduct that you are able to free spin it like a fidget spinner as well, the idea is incorporating skateboard ball bearings because of how well they turn, does seem to allow for a nice smooth turning grinder in this case even with herbs loaded, although it could take a little to get going at first if loaded full of dense sticky, it is a pretty smooth go pretty quick in my experience... The rest of the design is pretty special aside from the ball bearing spinner aspect too!

Loving the grinder been using it for about a week. Really nice grind super sharp nothing sticking or gumming up. It was a little hard to get the top off seems to be getting easier now as im getting some use out of it. I have notice (while spining the top fast) a little material seems to make it out of the lip. Anyone else seeing this I have a black desk mat so a little easier to see.

The day mine was set to arrive I ended up in an unfortunate extended medical vacation.

I finally got home today to find my 003/120 green bearing OMD. I’ve used it to grind, but can’t partake right now due to lungs, but I’m very happy with the grind consistency and spinning. This thing embarrasses my previous stainless (I won’t name names), but wow. Just in the brief time I’ve had it, I like it way more than I expected.

Glad you’re home and hope you’re feeling well enough to partake soon! Congrats on 003…the best number imo

I've had covid for a week (first time), hope I get to use this thing soon.
The grease in the bearing has worked in. At first it would spin for
20 sec max. Now I'm getting 40+ sec. and it sounds/feels real smooth.
Hope that bastard virus leaves you alone sooner than later. Also glad to hear to yours is speeding up. I’m hoping mine would do the same. It’s on the slow side atm (15secs)

My OM3 arrived today in Canada (shipped Feb. 2). First impressions are good, pretty, pretty, good. I do recommend a clean before first use or at least look it over. Mine had a few bits of tiny metal magnetized in the grinding area. The no magnet change (unless requested) should probably negate that in the future since they're ultrasonically cleaned before being sent out. I don't mind the magnet so far but I'd order another without just because.

Same goes with the new grooves. I like mine without them and have no issues gripping it (with bare hands and being conscious of how I grab it) but they look nice and since the cap has grooves, it all flows together nicely.

Right out of the gate it slices my bud with ease. The weight of stainless steel and the free spinning top is such a perfect combination. I really hope it doesn't gum up over time, but I feel like the design will prevent that. The friction point is your flower and the bearing so unless they get that caked up it should just keep spinning. And it will, because it's too much fun not too. I grind and spin, open it up to load and spin the tipped over top. Close it all back up and I spin some more. Damn I'm loving this grinder.

By way of update for me, I've had no issues with binding or gumming up since that very slight momentary one with a bit of resin on the centre post. It is staying remarkably clean. I've not cleaned the grinding area once and easily put a couple of ounces through it if not more.

What impresses me the most is the complete absence of crushed, compacted or rolled herb in the grind. I think the 'floating' nature of the bearing design plus the weight and sharpness is key but also the hole/teeth spacing and sizing. This is hands down the best grinder I've ever used, and not by a small margin.
