I don't know what caused this, but I'm pretty bummed.

Anyone have an idea if this is fixable without sending it in?

:peace:
I bet if you email them this pic they'll get you covered. I don't see how that could have been your fault, probably just a faulty screw or something. I'm assuming something screws up into the stem, I honestly haven't looked too closely.

Maybe take the bottom screw/plate out to see if you can then repair it once you have access.
I don't have any hex bits that small, but I don't think it would matter even if I opened it up. If the screw got sheared off, I can't find it anywhere. Surely I would hear it rattling around if it was still in there somewhere. And if it's in two pieces it's not going to be of much use anyway. Has anyone removed the bottom plate to see how the stem is attached? I wonder how long the attaching bolts/screws are...

@ChooChooCharlie can you PM me Bruno's email so I can hit him up? TIA.

I think it's likely the dude (or robot) in the factory in China missed that screw. If you look at the channel from inside you will be able to see if the broken end of the screw is blocking it off, or if it is open and never had one. Compare with mouthpiece end where they are open.
The channels are alloy, screws are harder so you could have stripped the thread but the screw would be sitting under the pot and both sides would have stripped you'd think.

After taking it apart, I too think this is the most likely cause. It wasn't a problem until the single screw loosened up enough to swivel the bowl section. I managed to get it put back together with a single screw so that's the good news. The better news is that the company has already reached out to me and I'll be getting a replacement stem. Their CS seems to be on point.

Great customer service from Tafée ! Stem on the way to Stu

Bruno, Tafée CEO, asked me if @Vitolo could find a home for some scratched units that won't pass quality control, but otherwise are quite functional. I told Bruno, F yeah! Great guy

Edit: Non-cup use is also ergo friendly for me:

So my bowle stopped working about a month ago. It was down for 24hrs then I did tried multiple random reboot on the next day and the device started working again as if nothing happened.
Although I was a bit sceptic about this behavior I haven't contact CS and crossed fingers this won't happen again.
Well, the puck stopped working again last week end. I did contact CS this time, and they quickly conclude the best was to send a replacement puck.
Very good CS, they are very quick and offered a fair solution, that's much appreciated.
Now tbh I'm a bit worried regarding the reliability of the device. I hope the new puck will last longer.
Any similar case like this here?

There have been cases, but I don't know that anyone has much visibility of how common they are. With a company so new to market, I'm glad the warranty is as long as it is. But since this is the first iteration of the Bowle, we should all still likely consider ourselves early adopters, with all the bumps in the road that may entail. Not 100% but seems like most folks are pleased with the CS that they are getting from Bowle.

I can't help but feel like someone at Canada Post knew who Tafee was, and snagged my package.

Stupid box still hasn't moved, it'll be a month in 8 days.

If anyone is debating a return, sell it in the classifieds or ensure Canada post never touches it. Fuck Canada Post, they'll never get another dollar of mine.

Did Tafee send you labels? Or were you required to send in?

I sent it myself, they did not provide labels.

This was my first time sending anything to Canada land, is there any chance I have a balance with customs that needs to be paid? If so, I would figure that the package wouldn't move at all past the Montreal 'inspection'... But what makes sense nowadays?

Oh shoot! Yea check with customs , if they don’t have an account to charge the customs payment it may sit there I would assume. Good luck!

I can confirm that my cup has held bourbon without issue. Maybe I won’t push it though. My Bowle has been steaming along. No more heater cutoffs since I starting holding that button down with authority.

I haven’t seen this device compared to the firefly, but as a former owner, I see some similarities. I say that as a compliment. The bowle is basically what I wanted the firefly to be. It’s not going to replace my desktops, but I use it every day now.

Which is good, because unfortunately it still requires too much of a draw for my deadhead mother in law. I’m going to try to get her to give it another chance but it seems like I’ll be keeping this one

Yeah bowle reminds me of a firefly that got extra sexy with an elevape on a coaster!

Did I understand that tafee doesn't take U.S. orders anymore, presumably because they are developing a distributor network, POTV and others.
I hope this is the case because I can’t find a Bowle anywhere, let alone in the US! If something doesn’t pop up soon, I’m going to try ordering from a few Canadian companies.

My experience with return units and customs delays is to add in the item's description the following wording
I did put "return" on the reason for sending, or whatever field we fill out with that kind of information.

Ill have to search up how to contact them, and will probably do it Monday. I figure I would have gotten some kind of paper mail or email, but oh well.

My Bowle continues to work perfectly and has been my daily driver since late December. I've settled into a routine where I charge it each night before heading off to bed and if I use it during the day I charge it again while I'm having dinner so I have a full charge for the evening's festivities.

I got some free kief as part of a sale at Trulieve ..... I use the metal potter and grind just enough flower to fill half the the pots. Then I open the potter and fill each pot by hand with a layer of kief and then grind enough flower to cover the kief. I could do the same thing without the potter but when I'm done ....I've got four pots packaged, ready and waiting spiked with kief.

I stopped using the cup for my "nightly" vodka and cranberry. I have a Yeti that keeps the ice from melting all evening which is hard to pass up. Don't get me wrong though....whenever I have company, a BBQ, pool party, etc....that cup will be sitting on its throne.

Definitely don't push it with the booze. My cup was doing fine for a few months holding cocktails and then suddenly one day I took a look and the bottom was covered in spider vein cracks. Nothing leaks thankfully but it's been straight seltzer ever since until the real glass comes out:(
