Coffee grinder,herb mill is my absolute first choice for a grinder.
Course.......2 quick pulses, fine 4 quick pulses.
My life quality index shot the fuck up with mine.........but I grind a lot of flower.
Been using the same one cor almost three years now and still going strong.

If you're looking to spend a bit, my BCG medium plate works great for the UD, and my Flower Mill works great with either the finest or 2nd finest plate option. FM doesn't necessarily let you pick which plate you want (if you only want one), it comes with their standard plate and the expansion pack consists of the other 3 sizes... but a couple people have had some luck just asking for a specific plate in the order comments, doesn't seem to be an issue. They also have a thread here (and are active on it) that may be worth checking out.

I've also looked at Santa Cruz grinders. And there are grinders with "ceramic" interiors that swear up and down to be non-sticky (so they don't get gummed up so fast).

There's a lotta grinder tech out there. Its sort of mind boggling !!!

I really just want a coarser grind with fewer dusty bits created during grinding. The stuff I grind myself in my Golden Gate grinder doesn't come through the screen, but the finer bits tend to pack down and create the need to stir even very small amounts. The original version of shake was near perfect for this. Drat change!

My GUESS is the coarser the better (for the UD) but it would be better to hear from people what they are using before I go dropping big buck here. Or little ones, either. Gotta save up for that custom Alpha dog!!!!

I have one that I use for a spice grinder, and I had considered getting another for this purpose - they're around $20 - but I'm a low volume user. I bought 3/4 oz about March last year and only bought more in January.

How often does it clog up? What if you only put like an eighth in one, does it still grind fairly evenly?

I've wondered about how much it leaves behind.

BCG = Brilliant Cut Grinder / Grinders For Life. They're in a similar pricing bracket to the FM as far as grinders go. The medium plate works great for me in the UD, the fine is too fine, I wouldn't want to go any coarser than the medium, especially because I use the SS tips mostly and I find if its too coarse it doesn't load and seat as well. Too fine and it gets too restrictive, so medium works great here.

If you're looking for something that wont get gummed up, the BCG is what you want. It's turned through everything I've put into it without a problem and I have yet to clean it once. Literally trying to see how long I can let it go before it really requires a cleaning. They have a thread here too.

The Flower Mill is also pretty good at that because there arent any teeth to get sticky, but I haven't had enough time to truly put that to the test. In terms of plates on this one, I think they run a bit coarser than the BCG. I'm in between the finest and 2nd finest plate for them for the UD, experimenting with that now. looking like the 2nd finest option so far but we will see. It does seem to cut down on the dust because of the nature of milling vs grinding though.

Both of them always evacuate the grinding chamber without a problem.

But yeah it's a balance IMO, too fine, and my pulls get really restrictive really quickly, but too coarse and I have a hard time getting it to seat properly in the stem and I feel like the pulls are still off. Also I think the glass stems are more accepting of a coarser grind, so that loading issue I have with the SS tips doesn't really apply if you're only using glass, and you can errr on the coarser side.

Yes some coats the walls but scrapes off if that's a issue.
I go through water so I like a fine grind,fast extraction and giant clouds.
Mrs.arb goes dry through the glass stem and like course for no Scooby snacks.
Like everything else vapor related it is a matter of taste.

Maybe it takes years of training, like becoming a fugu sushi chef. Could hire one of those for the job. Probably still cheaper than the mjolnir grinder for the financially demented

So I used to get "shake" here for about 60% of the cost of "regular" bud, but lately they've taken to pregrinding it to the consistency of tea fines. Stuff comes right through my screens now. It used to be actual shake, broken bits, but not ground. The original stuff worked great in my UD.

I've had to go to straight bud. Lopping off small bits - does not work well. Grinding in my Golden Gate Grinder - works somewhat but the grind is too fine. It chars at the drop of a hat now.

So I need a coarser grinder for Best UD Practices now. Any suggestions from Mah Fellow UDogians?

I like the Lift Innovations Grinder out of Canada.. they aren't cheap but they're amazing. The 4 piece with accessories has (iirc) 3 grinding plate and you use those to choose the grind size. I like these things so much we are talking about carrying them on the website at some point.

If you put the buds in a shot glass it makes it a lot easier to chop with a scissor. Kind of just jam the scissor in there to the bottom of the glass and start chopping.

Well if you do see what you can do about the ginormous hideous logo they insist on slathering all over the top of that thing. I have seen SO many reviews from people who say they won't buy one because of that. I don't much like it either. Especially at that price point - over $100 for the 3 stage (which is the only version I would want) and $125 for the 4 stage - I don't feel like I should have to provide them billboard-sized ad space as well.

Maybe you have round UD stickers that could cover that up? I actually am considering that grinder but only if I can creatively hide its inherent ugliness. Paint? Glue something over it?

Great minds think alike! I did try that (well along those lines, not a shot glass per se). Didn't work that well. I freely admit, that is likely because the teensy scissors were the super-cheap crappy style that came in a set of nail clipper thingies. They were sprung within just a few uses.

Huh funny I'm usually anti-logo on things but I'm way more tolerant of them on products from small businesses and I never really gave this one any thought until you mentioned it. I guess it is pretty huge but it doesn't bug me personally. I need to talk to them about us carrying them and will ask if there's an alternative to the big logo. If nothing else a sticker to cover it would be easy enough.

...and yeah I've used them personally.. a standard 4pc with all the accessories has been my primary grinder for a year or two now. I'm using the middle grind plate and the size seems just right for me.

There's a beautiful Big Leaf Maple Burl still available, but its not an alpha. I want that! But an alpha. Or some kind of whirly-burly wood at least.

As for grinders, NO NEW GRINDER FOR ME! Both grinders I want are Canadian and come via post. I can't get US mail, haven't been able to get mail for 4 or 5 years now. Dang it!

I just ordered that Str8 grinder..stoked on that! I have both the large and small BCG and the Lift (3 plates for each). In my experience I use more force with the BCG and it grinds faster. They tear and cut differently so I use them for different applications / devices. Load size, rip size, temp, and grind all play into it. My favorite thing about vaping is finding all the new ways to perform the ritual and find what set up is best for me.

See here's the thing about artisans and artisan goods.

If you're good at it, you develop a cult following. You don't have customers, or at least they're not customers for long.

We are acolytes. We spread the word of Log Vapes (and specifically UNDERDOG log vapes) far and wide.

We do this DESPITE (nay, verily, BECAUSE OF) a lack of large glaring ugly logos plastered all over your product.

We still know who made the vape. We do not forget. And the vast majority of us are HAPPY to tell everyone who asks (often before they actually ask) all about Underdog and its products.

I just think Lift is shooting themselves in the foot with that junk on their grinders. It looks like a 6th grader broke out his poster-making supplies to make it. And its ugly. At that price point, my grinder should be, if not actually a thing of beauty, at least it shouldn't make the thought of hiding the top the first thing that springs to mind when you see it. At present the only grinders they have in stock are the black version, and those only in seconds - whose hideousness has only been compounded by the fact that they have acid etched REJECT in huge white all caps top and bottom. (the logo on the brushed aluminum version is far less obvious, but those are also all out of stock).

I can't have either grinder (Lift or BCG) anyway given that both are manufactured in Canada and shipped via postal service. I haven't been able to get mail here for like 4 years LOL! But I do think that logo is weird.
