The Nomad From Morwood

I'm super excited for the vape to come once it's ready. So many thoughtful ideas and he is been super communicative and great to work with. I feel very fortunate to be able to get one of his vapes.

I don’t even have my Nomad I in hand yet, but I really want to have a Nomad II at some point too. The only problem is I also feel fortunate to even be getting one, so I feel bad for the people who want one and might not get one because I took up an extra slot. :ugh:

Unless Dan wants to make another crazy one with me though, if I get a Nomad II I’ll be happy with a relatively standard one and save him some time.

Edit: I was looking back for wood pictures for someone who asked above, and I noticed that today is the Nomad II’s 1st birthday (counting from when it was announced here).

Congrats Dan, and anyone who’s got one! :)

There are pics of some of the woods on the next page too.

Just looking at the devices is exciting. I’m amazed at the differences between the models. I’m lucky that I’m getting a II. Still I suspect that Dan will continue to innovate - it really seems to be part of his DNA. That’s something I really appreciate. For me the innovation, craftsmanship, and engineering thought as welll as the aesthetic set this apart from other vapes. I’m excited and fortunate to be able to get one.

A new Nomad 3 in a year or even a year and a half.
Mighty has not changed since 2014! Some people laugh at innovation and only know the ease of money ...
I have absolutely nothing against money 😉

Hi friends ! For which of the components of the vaporizer there is no plastic in the nomad?

There is PEEK below the heater, but it is capable of taking high temps and it doesn’t get very hot. Dan can also make that part with wood.

There is also Delrin in the button housing, but it has no contact with heat or the air path.

I think that’s all the plastic that’s in it, other than the battery wrap. :)

I need to message Dan and see how much new heaters would cost.

I say that because I have both medium and low heaters for my Nomad 1...but the coils have "slipped" in both. Now there is a ring of coils that have grouped together about 1/3 away from the central pin to the outside coil. The problem is that, in that configuration, that ring of coils that have grouped close together heats up super-fast compared to the rest of the coil. That culminates into a very fine line between not hot enough, and combustion-level hot. It's basically caused me to not use my Nomad much at all in the last several months since the problems started.

@Ramahs , Shoot me an email, I'll send you new ones. Before I had the coil annealing process perfected, there was a chance of the coil deforming if it was overheated. This is because the ribbon essentially anneals itself once it reaches red hot, causing it to move slightly out of position. In later batches I added a second annealing step once I learned that the single anneal wasn't always enough. Most of the time the single anneal was fine, but you got a couple bad apples it seems!

And like you mentioned, it essentially renders the heater unusable.

As always Dan, I appreciate the way you stand behind this stuff (and how few real problems people have had). I considered posting that you’d probably just replace them for him, but I didn’t want to speak for you. You didn’t give me much time to consider whether or not to say anything though!

Batch 2 starts soon, batch 3 starting once batch 2 is done. It usually takes a few months to finalize all the custom orders, track down any special woods, opals, button materials etc.., So I've learned to take orders well in advance.

Based on batch 1, I'm expecting a 2-3 month crafting time.

Most of the past 6 or so months has been finishing custom painted sleeves from the Nomad 1s, which will hopefully be finally done this month. Turned out that those sleeves averaged about a week of time each, which ended up adding months of work that I was not expecting. A learning experience to be sure...

Once those are out the door, and I can focus all my time on Nomad IIs, things are going to move a lot faster.

Can't wait for it to happen and your production to be faster for you. the sleeves are magnificent and add a lot to your work.
But I personally prefer without and prefer admired wood.
Will you still have maple wolf for the recent additions to the list like me? This is the wood I would choose in the future.
Is that an exotic type wood for you? Or it is some common in Canada.

That's awesome Dan! The sleeves are amazing but glad to hear it will make things smoother for you.

My future nomad 2:love: it’s olive burl and african blackwood. My bottom choice will be opal which Dan will send me later. So excited too see my final mock up.

Did anyone here order up a wood stem or case? The Indigo case is on my list but I think I'll wait to see one constructed before I pull the trigger. I'm still debating on a wood stem, I have never used one on a vape that wasn't lined with metal (dynavap) so I haven't quite decided yet. One thing is for sure, it would look great!

Email sent! Thank you so much for the assistance! This place rocks!

Expect a long wait as the Nomad is very popular and is not mass produced but then get ready for an amazing design process. There is a dizzying array of options but Dan makes the process very simple and straightforward.
