On the calibration video, it looked like he snipped enough insulation for the crimp. That leaves insulation on the length of wire running inside the ceramic tube. In the heat zone, and possibly in the heated air path. I didn't go back yet to confirm. Did I see it right?

I honestly have no idea, but I sure hope not if it's anything harmful! Shared all I know

Watch the calibration video starting around 8 minutes. I don't know about the air flow, but it looks to be in the heater.

So Stickstones mate, wishing you well first. But Im itching to ask- just how good is this vape?

Have you tried the Verdamper. I have a feeling this one may hit similarly and the verdamper is the hardest hitting vaporizer I have personally tried.

Yeah I don't know what I'm looking at/for exactly, you know more about that than I do, I do think the air flow makes it fine, but if everything around it is getting very hot and that thing whatever we're talking about can't get that hot safely, then I would be concerned... There hasn't been any mention of it as far as I know, and we don't think it affects the vapor quality, do we?? Hmm

I looked up the verdamper recently since someone else said that, and I actually don't see any similarity between them? Except that they both are designed to be used through water? But like totally different heating elements and materials, no?

They both use a resistive metal coil as a heater which radiates heat to the entire heater mass. The materials are different, but its the same principal = Convection vaping

Yes different materials in the sense of a non metallic, isolated airpath if the Vapbong offers that.

But they look simiar in terms of how quickly you could get really really high in no time at all, with any load from 0.4 up, huge, easy hits and fast effects.

It appears the Vapbong' heater can keep up with the huge metallic grill in the Verdamper.

Shit snacks he was saying the lead wire.... leed wire...as in main wire....
not lead wire as in having the metal lead in it..
all the sudden I don't know how to quote someone in my reply sorry i could not reference the comment properly

Just watch the video starting at 8 minutes and tell me where you think the insulation lands. I don't necessarily think it's dangerous, since the maker has used it for a loooong time. But at a minimum, it could affect taste. And for the record, I'm not fond of kanthal for taste. With dabs, it adds a little something funky.

I was obsessively watching the video last night where Dr. Collie shows how he crafts the heater. To my eyes, it does not look like the insulation goes inside the ceramic tube, but it gets pretty damn close. looked to me like the crimp connector goes about halfway into the tube, with the other half hanging out of the tube and attached to the wire. insulation appears to start right where the crimp connector ends. I would think that the insulation is definitely getting warmed up, just from being inside the head, but I don't think it is in contact with the ceramic tube. I'm curious about exactly where the intake ports terminate inside the head.

regarding flavor, I still think its quite pure, and very good. there is some loss compared to a smaller piece, or direct draw off something like the minivap. but I think if you are getting muted flavor, at least part of that can be attributed to the size of the bong. or you just need to put more herb in there :p I will say that it does seem to change pretty quickly when I go too hot or too cold. there is definitely a sweet spot for me, and it has taken some trial and error to dial in. right now I'm starting at 11.5V and letting it settle at 10.7V. there is a pretty big difference between 11.0 and 11.5V. I would prefer more granular adjustment.

which brings me to the issue of the power supply... I noticed some inconsistent performance on my Vapbong after a week or so. Did some investigating and noticed that the heater actually turned of and on when I wiggled the power cord  also the barrel plug on the power supply wire was getting hot. I tested the heater for continuity and it seemed fine. held around 4 ohms as I wiggled it around. so I turned my attention to the power supply barrel plug. I cut it open and found that the ground wire had a really shitty connection to the exterior of the barrel plug. just the tiniest bit of solder holding it on there, and it had been overheating. so I replaced the barrel plugs on both the power supply and the Vapbong with different connectors, and now it's running like a champ. totally consistent performance, and the connectors are not even getting warm.

so that's not great. but there was nothing wrong with the Vapbong. something to look out for if you feel the barrel plug getting hot though. FWIW, I did let AoV know about the bad power supply

Yeah, the power supply, even when it works, leaves some room for improvements and I hope they are still working on it.

I have been using Kanthal coils in my e cigs for years and while it does behave different from stainless steel coils, I don't find it having a specific or different taste to it.

Yeah I don't really know, hopefully they will pop in here to elaborate on that? I sure hope everything is safe, but I just don't know these technical details...

I can be quite sensitive to taste, like I tend to have a problem with nichrome heaters and the silicone insulations, I was surprised I wasn't bothered more by the kanthal in my Glow, but yeah any dab on any metal coil is kind of ruined for taste in my experience...

But yeah I have had pretty great taste with both of my vapbongs, especially when I tried my bandit dry when I got it, but I wouldn't say it tastes better or more pure or as good as some of my other favorites...

And yeah the VVPS is not the best, I think they are still working on their own, these ones are available on Amazon apparently, I haven't noticed any issues with mine, but yeah I don't really know what to check for as you described it...

If it’s getting up to temp and staying there consistently, your power supply is probably fine. If it starts behaving inconsistently, and the plug that connects the ps to the Vapbong is getting hot, you probably have a bad ps. That’s all I can say about that.

Im no expert either, but use of kanthal and ceramic in the heater is fine by me. I think if the insulation were heated to the point of offgassing, we would probably taste and smell it, and it would be pretty bad

I believe they are acively working on it and have a new improved heater in the Pipeline?

@Alexis – That's what I heard too, but I don't know at what point they are with introducing a new power supply – not sure if they are trying to improve the heater too, though, but I might have missed the discussion about it.
I vaguely recall some discussion but only vaguely because I think it was actually vague in terms of specific details but it did not sound ridiculously far off of the Horizon at all just not imminent in the next week or two either.

I have actually been wondering if it could possibly make sense to just make the actual heating element in the core of the heater, one of those ceramic rod resistors from log vapes or lsv types? Then it could just be ceramic to ceramic to heat up the entire mass more pure, not that I really know much about those designs, how the ceramic rod connects to electronics behind it etc... Just a thought! Also I have not heard anything at all about them changing the heater design either, only plans for the custom vvps...

so does this thing really do from microdoses to 2g+? what is your exerience with amounts? also, any comparisons with a Ditanium?

I don't weigh but 2g sounds like way too much lol if you were to put a full gram in there it would already be so full that you would probably want to do low voltage, since the herbs would be very close to the heater if not touching it even? Like there is a lot of room with the whole ball, but I don't know how effective it would be to load really that much even if it does fit... It could be interesting to just try like throwing in a bunch of nugs then go to town and break them up as you go... I think the ideal amount range would be like .1g to .5g, though it can work with less and it can work with more... I like around .25g for my own experience I think!

If anyone is looking to purchase something from Art-of-Vapor and hasn't done a wire transfer before I have some advice. In Canada the banks I looked into (RBC and TD) can charge a hefty fee if you're going into a branch. TD charges $30 and RBC charges $45. RBC online banking only charges $6 which is a drop (effective from the 1st) from their previous $13 fee IF you're transferring under $1000. I also looked into Western Union which appeared to be cheaper but calling into a retail location the costs were much higher so I'm not sure. The exchange rates are another thing to consider as the banks seemed higher.

Speaking with Daniel from Art of Vapour he told me about about a service a U.S. client used (someone here maybe?) called TransferWire. The fees vary depending on how you fund the transfer whether it's direct debit, credit card etc. and their exchange rate is supposed to be lower than banks.

So if for example I was sending €202.26, which is the cost of a B-stock minus VAT plus shipping here are the costs on my end in CAD.

RBC - $331
TD - $355
Western Union - $380~ (I wonder if the person I spoke with made a mistake as this seems way high)
TransferWire - $320~

The exchange rate the day I checked with TransferWire was actually higher than with the banks yet it still came out the lowest.

Long story short, TransferWire is the best, Daniel has excellent customer service, and I have a B-Stock Azure heading to me :D.

Another quick update that I'm sure fellow Canadians would like to hear. I received an update from UPS for the extra fees due before I receive my package, the total being $25.xx CAD with a $10 handling fee and the rest GST. That's the same price Canada Post charges when USPS hands off to them at the border which is the lowest out there. I mean one can always hope there will be zero fees but I'm not complaining one bit.

What's the amperage rating of the power supply that is provided? I had some ordered from a while back that came last week and look identical but are rated at 5A which I thought was high compared to the VapBong provided unit. Never hurts to have a backup and they're cheap.

On the bottom of the vvps it says 12v-5a So I'm assuming this is 5 amp. But you know what they say about assuming

Oh no you're not assuming, that's exactly what I meant, thank you. Or you shouldn't assume I mean, because you're right haha. I do love that saying though :D. Now I know I have two backups in case I notice any weird behavior. If anyone wantd a spare you can get them for cheap on Aliexpress.

I've had a couple days with my new Azure VapBong B-Stock and all I can say is wow! Starting with the packaging everything is packaged very secure and the only thing I would recommend is that they tape the ball into it's cardboard spot as mine was rolling around a little but didn't have anything to smash against (except more cardboad). I like the art work and there was extra foam pieces inside the cardboard box to keep the breakables safe. These are beautiful devices in person, pictures just don't do justice. My B-stock azure isn't as blue as the original and there are a few imperfections (hence why it's a b-stock) but they don't take away from the device and make it more unique imo. Where I'm using mine I can't tell if it's just the reflection of a light I have near and/or the change in angle when I go to hit it but I swear I can see some more yellow in the finish that looks kinda trippy.

I gave mine a good 20 minute burn off at full power and then dropped the voltage down to around 11v which drops as the power supply heats up. Mine is settling around 10.7 volts now I believe. I was giving about 10 minutes for heat up in later sessions but it needs a little longer for best results, 20 or 30 minutes works really well. My ambient temperature is only about 15°C/59°F where I have it set up so that may have something to do with it.

Talk about free flowing! Each draw is barely noticable on my lungs except for the nice chug the VaporBong makes as I inhale. There are roughly 6 holes on the down stem and it feels like a good set up with just the right amount of diffusion.

Loading is very easy with the included loading tool but dumping straight from my grinders isn't an issue either as the opening is really big in the herb ball. Stirring is required as I get a hot spot on the back side of the screen but all that means is picking up the ball, giving a poke at the bottom of the screen to loosen the flower, a little shake to mix everything up and then lightly tamping it. The more I pack the more I notice a need to stir basically.

The flower doesn't last long at my current settings, the first hit is lower vapour more flavour and then the 2nd and 3rd hits make me feel like a dragon with big clouds. Leaving the ball packed to preheat may increase that first draw. How long it continues after that depends on how much I pack. It's odd because with my modded Elev8r and SSV I feel them hit harder but the VapBong has been hitting me harder in effects. That just means more testing I guess :D which I have no problem with, this device is a pleasure to use.

Between the artistic look, heavy feel, built in water filtration, large bowl, powerful effects and good flavour I am extremely happy I discovered Art of Vapor.

I had a laugh when I added roughly 300mL of water and for some reason decided to weigh the device and it came came out to exactly 4.20lbs. Coincidence? Yeah probably but it made me pretty happy.
