Ash Catcher, never tried water in the AC and the main can dry but I will.

So the insulated scoop from NV, the scoop is a bit narrow. This is what I did:

Insert needled nose pliers and bend out a tiny bit to desired width. Makes scooping much easier. I love this tool, tbh, it's the perfect insulated handle for a flower carb cap, imho.

ALSO! Something I noticed:

This scoop isn't magnetic, so it works really well in the Brilliant Cut. If you buy a scoop elsewhere it might not be chill with this particular grinder, FYI.

On the scoop/tool tip, I've been incredibly pleased with this 3D printed scoop/poker. My main vape tool!

It's because water causes these vaporized plant oils to fall out of phase and condense into a liquid. Condensed oil will never make it into your lungs.

Flower vapor is really a solventless oil extract produced with high heat. Like all things yin and yang, that same heat that helps extract all these precious oils can easily equate to harshness from the vapor. The same resin/oil can be expressed mechanically at far lower temperatures and vaped separately from the plant material, but the integrity of the oil will be affected in some degree due to heating/flash "pasteurization."

It's challenging to "cool" vapor down and not lose anything though. Vapor wants to be hot, if it's not hot enough it will revert into something different.

Have been thinking about this so much. This is one of the most concise, easy-to-grasp explanations of the physics of vaping cannabis I've yet encountered! It's funny, I know what phase change is but never considered it when figuring out how to cool vapor with ice and such. It makes sense -- at a certain temperature, the vapor will start to condense and be less available to enter your lungs.

That implies: cooling cannabis vapor to a cold temperature will decrease potency. Which implies that for optimal effects from vaping, you should actually be ok with it dry and somewhat warm/hot. But where's that balance?

The goal now is to determine what the optimal lowest temperature is that releases all the glorious oils but isn't so low they start to condense. And, of course, that'll vary with each setup. My main lesson here is that the goal of supercooled vapor isn't necessarily desirable because it will be less potent. I simply want the vapor at the lowest temperature possible without the start of condensation. I'm at 580 on the WE right now, might try to nudge it lower.

But, throat comfort matters and as much as I like vaping dry, it's still kinda irritating. I find using a small amount of water in an ashcatcher and then into a dry bong doesn't meaningfully decrease the potency but makes a meaningful difference in how much I cough. Super pleased, kinda the best of both worlds.

I think the condensed oils could still interact with taste buds if the liquid is air born... but if it gets stuck in solution with water... Obviously I'm still wary of water. Will have to do my own personal testing.

Exactly! Those hot, dry conditions are ideal to extract the vapor, so we want to make the vapor as smooth as possible while still supporting the vapor from condensing too much. Seems like folks in the community are really starting to get a grasp on water-less cooling with some of these beaded stems and stuff going on in the portable scene.

With too much water you end up distilling, which is vaporization + condensation.

I can definitely relate! Too bad I don't have any ashcatchers on hand right now to try that out, 'cause it sounds like a solid approach to "moisturize" the vapor and increase the air path length without needing to use tons of water.

So whom will be the first to do shots of FlowerPot bong water?

I might actually have a guy... My friend has gotten him to drink regular bong water twice, I believe, and vodka bong solution once. He'd be able to give us a flavor profile comparison better than anyone, I'd imagine. Delicate situation, I've been told. Some sort of trickery is usually involved.

:uhh: There’s no way a “friend” would be able to trick me into drinking something like that twice (once would be hard enough), let alone 3+ times... :puke:

I do notice that the water from my FP use starts to smell pretty flowery though, so if the glass was clean to start with and it didn’t sit around too long, I’d guess it wouldn’t be bad to mix into something. Combustion water though...? :disgust:

I feel you, man. I don't get it. Last time the bong water drinker was in town he took a nap on the couch and our mutual "friend" farted in his face as he was inhaling in his sleep, and he actually coughed himself awake... Supposedly that means they're true friends, we wouldn't understand.

Sorry for derail. Super odd convo.

One of my favourite things about vaping is no more smelly bong water. Accidental spills? No stink. Accidentally suck up some bong water? No gagging :)

I saw a friend recently with a combustion bong that hadnt been cleaned in a while, I cant believe I used to live like that!

It fucking stinks! :)

Very nice!

Damn I kinda want another Flowerpot................. :uhoh:

So, my shovelhead bowl. Before I screwed the insulted handle in to tighten the 18mm male adapter into it I heat soaked everything so when I tightened the adapter it'd be at the right... expansion degree? that the bowl won't get STUCK in the glass fitting after a good heat soak. I notice now that resin will build up on the metal adapter, now, like the metal is loose to the glass and vapor gets up there and coats everything making it sticky and stuff.

My question: Should I try setting my bowl up again? Like can this be fixed? Did I heat soak too much that there's now a gap between the shovelhead male adapter and the glass fitting? Thanks for any insight, guys. If I don't get a response I'll just fool around myself and report my findings.

I set mine up every time I change glass(often), never had any problems.

I have always done it at room temperature. Makes bowl tight, not stuck. My glass bowl gets stuck after a concentrate session as I let my Vrod just sit on the bowl so long.
Hrm. I don't think I'm satisfied. I might mess with different temps on PID, full heat soaks, and set up adapter at different temps to see where it seals perfectly but doesn't get "tight" at all. I mean, Idk, maybe I'm being OCD, it's just annoying to me having to rip the bowl out to dump.

Thanks for the insight @started@52

@Bumping Spheda Are you possibly over-tightening the handle? I tighten it by hand and then just turn it a little bit more until I feel it grip just enough that it won’t accidentally come out with the head, and I’ve never had trouble getting it out.

Not a very original question for a first post but I am hesitating between D cup and VRod. Does the Vrod provide great flavour? Can I change the SiC to something like sapphire?

I love live resin but I also love flower. I have a TuboX already which extracts very efficiently. Is the D cup a massive upgrade for dabs?

Due to the Vrod design, it passes concentrate vapor through the heat exchanger which adds convective air to the hits, Dcup is a direct inject conduction nail. IMO for the absolute highest quality dabbing experience, it's best to keep them separate.

IMO - You won't get the same benefits of sapphire in a Vrod as the Dcup since they are so different.
