I think the dosing capsules are probably also behind some of the lack of flavor. In the end, portability is about compromise. The capsules allow me to easily transport several bowls worth of material when I go out for the day. Using them means I don’t have to deal with loading loose flower and emptying it back out when I’m out of the house. The compromise is that they reduce flavor and you have to run a bit hotter to compensate.

Yes, I agree the capsules are not the best for taste but I accept some compromises too. I designed a diy 510 vape with capsules use in mind, I use S&B dosing caps and don't need to flip them since abv is evenly vaped on all the thickness of the caps, but maybe yours are thicker and S&B are aluminium, yours are stainless steel.
The need to stir always kept me away to grab my 510 vapes for on the go usage, caps will change that!

Yes it's quite even but (because? ) it doesn't get very dark. And I don't want to exceed by far the temp I decided is the max on my setting because after that I feel I overheat the wood. Maybe the capsules @wisausnk is trying are aluminium that conducts heat better? They look like it.

I finally found the time to do some shots of my gear<, only thing missing is the releaux as it is for repairs. Though you guys would like them:
The Version I got is a Glow RCV 18 Ziricote and a replacement cover of unknown wood. I like the short stem a lot as it can double as a WPA for nearly anything...

As one can see, I made some experiments in coil building... :rofl:And blowing up some way to small coils... :freak:
So far the last one on the pictures turned out to be quite nice, it is made of Staggered Fused Clapton Wire from GeekVape. The one you can see installed at the moment is also nice, different beast, though. It is made of 28 AWG SS316L, dual twisted.
What I observed is positioning the hot elements of the coil above the airflow vents giving the best performance as well as thinner, higher resistance wire. I see some guys putting in coils with way beefier coils, like 20 AWG. Wonder how hot their mod's are getting. Let's see how my fixed releaux will deal with those.
But I am still really impressed by this amazing device. Simple and efficient...
Next may be a DNA mod to get those darn TCR working proper with fancy coils, maybe some dosing capsules and if I manage to take a good one, an action shot... :science:

Edit: Rephrasing, to make things more clear

Looking forward to your experiments. Anyone know what gauge the glow comes with ?

Even using the glass mouthpiece and vaping at 32 watts, I’m still only getting one flavorful hit from the Glow. Everything after the first hit either tastes like ABV or like very little of anything. I will say though that using my DNA mod, even in wattage mod, and vaping at lower watts, I got extremely even golden brown ABV.

Right know I am getting about my 7th or 8th super tasty lime hit of amnesia lime in Tc in the glass stem with a single big fat alien Clapton. I find it tasty differently more roasted at this stage but definitely not neutral or tasteless. Idk I get several tasty hits with the stock coils too... Maybe you take huge hits? But I never vape this low with the glow maybe 32 is too low? In wattage I start around 40. Taste is subjective I guess

Normally I start around 40-42 but I saw people on Reddit saying they started at 32. Not sure why I’m not getting the results I want. I draw for 10-15 seconds but I don’t have the trigger held down for the whole draw.

I get good taste for the first 3-4 draws. Seems to work well to me. I do 37-40. My only other comparison is the Herbalizer and the grasshopper

Well after this third bowl test for the sake of science and accuracy I must say I was a bit excessive about taking a 7th-8th super tasty hit. It's indeed more 3-4 hits for the fresh tasty part. But I definitely like the next 3-4 roasted heavy tasted and sedative hits as I climb in temps.

Yeah agreed. I usually don’t go as far as 8 though lol. So far I’m really happy. Want to play with different coils but this is going to be my best friend next boarding season

I hate those kanthal coils and I don’t use that word too often:). I tried them for 2 weeks and quickly replaced them with some SS316L coils, now it’s a wonderful TC capable beast:nod:.

Which ones did you recommend and where did you get them from?

These are the ones that a friend sent me. I loved them on the stempod and they work just as well on the glow. I set tcr at 185, using dual coils the resting resistance is .22-.23

Well I’ve never changed coils on a 510 deck before but for that price I can afford to mess it up a few times learning!

Thanks for the link. Being able to customize the coils interested me as well as the all wood design so it wouldn’t break backpacking or snowboarding. Now I just have to keep tinkering away to find the best combo. I think inhaling technique may be in play for those disappointed. It reminds me of the magic flight box in a lot of ways but tastes as good as my Herbie and is much better then my grasshopper (except for portability )

For the inhale I take long, slow draws as it’s a convection unit. Is there a better technique I could try?

That’s the method but it depends on your draw. Long is subjective. Also do you preheat a little? 3-5 second press before drawing. Taste is also subjective so what taste great to me my not be good enough for you lol. I’ve been doing 37 wats 3 second preheat steady draw but I fluctuate based on the heat I feel. Draw faster if it’s feeling to warm or slower if I’m not tasting enough vapor. I can draw pretty long so I play with it for what feels right for me. I also have my airflow a 1/3 open. Try playing with your airflow for your draw as well.

The glow’s deck is a tricky bastard because of the bend. I wasted like 5 coils and on the 3rd try the coils came out perfect:clap:. Get a few sets, it’s cheap enough as you said.

@ZenMonkey you are absolutely right, I had a terrible time mastering the draw rate to match the heating rate. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the kanthal coils but I just don’t like the heating profile of it. Besides that I’m a TC autofire kinda guy, I like using my 510’s button-free like my tubo

Ah, good idea. I do a preheat of about 3 seconds and draw similarly to you, but my airflow is fully open.

Try changing the airflow and please report back :) if it’s extracting well don’t expect more then 3 really tasty draws though. 3-4 max but I hope closing it down some will give you better results
