Discontinued Ghost MV1

One thing I would be careful of is arcing - @Baron23 I think you mentioned this somewhere before about the mighty and unplugging power adaptor?

S&B recommends plugging the charging cord into the device BEFORE plugging the wall wart end into the wall.

I have speculated that this was to prevent possible arcing and damage to electronic components if one were to insert a hot plug into the vape.

I think this is a good practice for all rechargeable electronic devices.

Does the Ghost MV1 hit as hard as a Dynavap? Mine works beautifully inside but is extremely difficult to use in the winter. I'm debating whether I'd be better off getting a nice IH or just spending extra on an MV1. I have a Mighty that works beautifully for sessions and sharing, and I don't get on with my 510 dry herb vapes all that well.

It must be me. I couldn’t get into the Vapcap at all. To me, the MV1 trounces it.

The vapcap is a more leisurely experience; leisure doesn’t seem to attend your medication, sir, from the sound of it. By being most direct and least time-consuming, MV1 appeals to me. Leisure is fine, but not as frequent an option, so getting it done saves the day.

I'm with Mr. Mellish.

The vapcap did nothing for me in the end. At first I was excited to try it. Thought it was like joint, and nostalgia hooked me. Loved that it was made by a blue collar machinist not techy silicone valley types.

But after using the vapcap for a while, its super hot vapor. You'll probably burn your fingers or mouth if you have a lapse in paying attention. The need for a flame and need to "listen" to it and spin it in your hand, constantly, with a flame got way old.

MV1, when it worked for me, was more "leisurely." Put on a setting that works and leave it (changing settings was annoying not leisurely). Hit a button, take a very cool hit, and get a nice controled high. Grab another clean crucible and repeat.

This is what Virgil said about battery life spans.
  • How long will the battery pack last before needing replacement?

  • Hi Steve, Virgil here with GHOST Vapes. They're built to last through at least the duration of the warranty on the device (2-5 years), but you have a 1 year warranty on the battery itself just in case.
  • Thanks, good to hear. Very interesting vape.

I caved and got the stealth edition. No problems so far and it hits like a champ straight out of the box (actually 10 hours after it came out of the box because of the USB charging).

Just a quick question about charging. I don’t have a fast charger but I figure that’s ok because of my infrequent but regular use. So I fully charged my battery (10hrs!) before first use but is it ok for subsequent charges, to top up but not to full? What I mean is regardless of what the battery level is when starting charging with the USB cord, is it ok to interrupt the charging before it is done? For example, if the battery is half full, can I interrupt the charge at 75% so that I can use it? I figure this would solve the long charging times if I always keep my battery in the 60-90% range.

The battery cost is quite expensive so I don’t want to mess it up accidently.

It is okay to interrupt the charging before it is done.

What I have been doing after charging is I insert the battery & depress the mode button to confirm the 3 led battery level (makes me feel better) & then I decouple the battery once again before reinserting & don't touch the mode button. @ghostvapesofficial Nerissa, I'm fairly certain that just checking the battery level when in sleep mode doesn't take the vape out of sleep mode. I think that you have to actually turn it on with the 3 clicks to exit sleep mode. Please confirm. And I would like to know what the charging amps are? I would guess that the usb charge is at .5 amps while the fast charger is 2 amps. Thank you.

@Summer - You are correct about checking battery level in sleep mode. ;)

Here is the information concerning the battery AMPs:
-max current by USB cable is 0.25A
-max current by fast charger is 1.5A
-max voltage through USB is 5V

Wow, only 0.25 amps if using the USB cord? Don’t most phones go at least 0.5amps?

Anyways, after some more usage, I think I figured out what is acceptable to me in terms of battery life. I think it’s similar to what others have been saying.

My standard session is 1 draw at 338, 2 draws 392, stir then finish with 2 draws at 428. Basically 5 draws per crucible.

At full battery, The first 4 crucibles (first 20 draws) are amazing.
The battery is usually at two lights now, and the next 3 crucibles (next 15 draws), I notice a progressive drop off in performance but still acceptable.
By now after 35 draws the battery is at one light and I did another 2 crucibles after manually calibrating it to the hottest setting. The performance was underwhelming so I just stopped.
I have heard from others and the vape critic that the battery indicator is not accurate and that there’s quite a few draws left but imo, it’s not worth it.

I figure I’ll recharge after every 5 crucibles or one dispenser to get max performance.

Can anyone with an used battery tell me if performance holds up over time? I don’t care how many draws you can from a battery until it’s dead. I just care about how many “good” draws you can get.

I charge again after 5 or 6 crucibles as I notice a drop in performance as well..i only use mine on level 5 though so it will probably drain the battery quicker.

Im pretty sure one of the guys on the Ghost tutorial videos on you tube says he drops his in the charger after every session.

Sounds to me like the mv1 needs a 'home dock'- a mains powered connector so we don't have to rely on batteries for home use. Much like video cameras from old school days

I wouldn’t mind seeing ghost come out with a plug in power adapter like the mflb. Not sure about most people but I use the unit only at home 99% of the time. I only need a battery for portablity on the odd occasion.

Yes I also use the mv1 solely at home. I think this is something that a lot of vaporizer companies are overlooking - yes batteries are good but they just end up in landfill at the end of their (short) life. Plug in power will last much longer and be better for the environment. I like our planet. It's a nice home. I'd like other humans after me be able to enjoy it too. This seems like a dying dream

Its about two 18650 worth

With one 18650 on my iq i get about 3-5 long sessions, temp 1 to 4, 1 hit each and 2 more on 4, so around 7-10 going thru levelsl 1-5 eachn on ghost and battery should be near 3.60v

Slow charging is preferred if u want the battery to last longer and hold its charge a little better when you use it

The MV1's battery pack is wired in series (-[1]+-[2]+) so the output of the pack is 8.2V (4.1x2) - this is going to go down as the batteries are used-what reflects the charge indicator on your unit. Then when you recharge it goes back up. It says it's 9 amps peak output on my pack.

My pack also reads 5V 0.5A (USB) but the 0.25A that Nerissa @ghostvapesofficial stated earlier is probably what the battery pack is actually pulling through the cable. *think it's actually somewhere between that - calculator works it out at 0.39A if it takes 8 hours to charge a 2600mah pack.

Plus being totally honest if Ghost are really doing a 1 year warranty on their battery packs I wouldn't argue with that at all. In most places batteries are considered consumable products and come with no warranty, it's like car tyres or stylus' on turntables, their use is wear and tear. Some vaporizer companies offer warranty on their batteries but I've never heard of a year? That's worth the price of the pack right there for me- I was expecting much less life out of the pack and even less warranty. We'll see.

My lg hg2 fresh ones take roughly 8-9 hrs to charge on a charger at 0.25ampa from 3.60 to 4.20v, makes you curious what batteries ghost used :) maybe someone will open it up one day for us to check out

What wouldve been cool is... The fast charger also has a slow charging option, 0.25amps, typically usbs on units break easy on my vape gear, cant say how long ghosts usb port will last

Hopefully ghost comes out with a single battery version, user replaceable, smaller form factor, and a desktop vape with glass ?

Take My Money Dammit!
As far as battery use I usually go 7 or 8 crucible, and sometimes that’s over the course of three days. I start on the low power setting and I can get a lot of pulls on the first light. After it slows down I got to three lights until it seems spent. At this point I can either go to red or give my crucible a swirl. I choose to stir for two reasons. First, it conserves battery life. Actually now that I think about it going from cold to vape probably takes more battery than going from green to red on an already hot heater. Second and most important to me, it helps preserve the flavor at lower heat. At least for me. At power drop I go to standard setting, and then to high. The key is not overpacking the crucible, and making sure the weed dries out enough.

I have run it to spent once and I was around 11 crucibles, but it was getting too drained at the end, and I felt like Kramer going for a test drive and seeing how far he could go with the tank at empty.

How does the size of the crucible on the ghost compare to the size of the Haze V2 containers?

I think about the same, haze containers light tamp .15-.20, fits a lil more imo

Crucibles light tamp is around .15
