I'm looking at getting myself and my girlfriend a standard core bubinga! After much deliberation, we thought it looked the coolest! Anyone have this wood type?

I'm so excited for this. I can't wait to try this through an ice-cold water pipe.

Any advice for a total newb to vaping?

Most people who vape prefer using warm water, not cold water. Better for your throat/won't dry it out as much

It's on the softer side of the spectrum. It works well though and doesn't have a lot of design limitations. That said we only have it in smaller size stock which does limit options to Twig sized designs.

Hmm. I might have to consider another wood then possibly. But I do love that color. Maybe purple wood or something else with nice color. Thanks anyway

@Stevenski yes, us non-cone smoking Aussies are certainly are rare bread! Tbh, I can't recall the last time I had a cone, would have easily been 20 years. I can't think of anything worse these days.

You are the 1% . Enjoy the J hook as that is one of the best ways to use a pup dry.

There is something magical that happens when I hit my UD. It replicates a perfect cone (snapper bowl) every single time. Seriously it is like we are made for each other as right when I hit capacity it is exhausted. It can be like russian roulette as sometimes you get a extra kiefy stem that gives a hearty cough & bonus bliss. Those are the best

I've got to order some wood for a custom, I'll see if they have any bigger stock in Padauk. It does have an awesome color that's for sure, though like most of the brightly colored woods does fade over time.

When using the dimmer and LED display cable, I set the dial on the power supply to 13.5V, which is higher than I'll ever need (I typically run 12.2V) and offers a smoother 0-100% on the dimmer than at 15V. The USB port is a cool bonus.

Have you ever done simple wood carving? I was thinking of getting a few letters carved onto it. I could maybe do that at home (though one of the things is an autograph with your forum name,I always get signatures on custom anything) and maybe a very simple design.

Wood carving is not amongst our skills unfortunately.. sorry. Seriously, we've tried and it wasn't pretty lol.

Hmm... yes and no? The design allows for a lot of movement without anything breaking but that's not to say you want it to move. The wooden body has probably receded right at the base where the contact is and that makes for wobbling.

If possible I'd say get in touch with Underdogette and send it in so we can replace it with a Standard Core for you which should take care of the problem.

Do you just sort of have a feel for it by now,* having built so many, or do you test resistance or temperature at a specific voltage with a probe? If someone sends in a dog for a recore, are you able to more or less match the existing baseline temp? (assuming the existing one is functional)

It's one of those things I wonder sometimes while I'm holding mine, and somehow, it ends up slipping my mind.

*I'll admit that when I think of this option, I imagine you holding a log to your forehead, Carnac the Magnificent style, and pronouncing it 'hot.'

Good question thanks for asking..

It all starts with the stainless steel heater cartridges - every time we get a new batch made we sit down and 'bin' (sort) them all (by resistance) into groups which roughly equate to cool/medium/hot. It takes a bit of time to do it but it provides you guys with a better experience so we think it's worth it.

Yes if someone sends their Dog in for a re-core/rebuild and it's still working we can match a new heater to their old one so they have a comparable experience. We can also do the same with new pieces if we have a value for the old one.. ie sometimes people will order a new Dog and measure their old one themselves and just ask us to make the new one a similar heat level, etc.

Yep using a multimeter thru the DC jack is exactly the way to measure your own. Rather than try to get probes down in the jack (and risk damaging the spring contact) a better way to go is to just cut the end foot or two off a dead power supply (or junk one from the thrift store) and use that to make the connection and just measure across the wires if that makes sense.

I will also have to post a function video of that jhook+ashcatcher... I've been meaning to but I've been getting busy again and I'm not great at filming since I have no dedicated equipment. Anyway, it's very nice and preserves flavor really well while still providing some humidity. I stick to that and DD (wood or glass) with my dogs lately, although the micro is a bit picky with which she'll accept.

Also, should I grab an o-ring for glass stems with her? Not that I use the micro often (admittedly only once or twice thus far, otherwise she's just a cute lil bit of desk decor) but the option would be nice since I believe of my DD stems, the olive is the only that reliably clears.

Yeah this should be the last of the Banksia Pods unless I lost one somewhere and find it later or something derpy like that lol.

If you like using the Micro with the DD then yeah you might want to pick up an o-ring.. or send it back in and I can swap the core out to a Micro Mk2 core which has a stainless stem stop built in.

We use so many kinds of woods that it's hard to come up with a concrete number and it also varies a lot based on how much it's used and at what temps. That all being said, unless a piece is listed as a particularly soft wood (in the product description, last line usually) they should make it to the 2 year warranty mark being run 24/7 and full power. Not used 24/7 or put at a reduced power level when not in 'use' will stretch that lifespan out indefinitely.
