I recently watched this documentary and it just blew my mind. Lets end the lies that have been fed to us over the years. Knowledge is the only way to over come the hypocrisy. Educate yourself.

The Union: The Business Behind Getting High
User rating: 7.1/10 (Source: IMDB.com)

Synopsis:

BC's illegal marijuana trade industry has evolved into a business giant, dubbed by some involved as 'The Union', Commanding upwards of $7 billion Canadian annually. With up to 85% of 'BC Bud' being exported to the United States, the trade has become an international issue. Follow filmmaker Adam Scorgie as he demystifies the underground market and brings to light how an industry can function while remaining illegal. Through growers, police officers, criminologists, economists, doctors, politicians and pop culture icons, Scorgie examines the cause and effect nature of the business - an industry that may be profiting more by being illegal.

"Grass - The History of Marijuana" is a good one to look out for. It's narrated by Woody Harrelson.

And of course you can't go past Reefer Madness

I also was unable to watch "The History of Grass", the documentary I listed above is actually very watchable. It is kinda done like a Michael Moore film.

Edit: Has anyone actually watched the link I have in my original post?

I agree. It's a very informative documentary.

Thanks, eLiguL for this find. I'm watching it now. Joe Rogan is pretty funny in it.

I have his "Happy Shiny Jihad" and also most of the videos on his website. I find that he is a very open minded and forward thinking individual.

So has anyone else watched the documentary I posted?

Anyone wanna discuss the information that was presented?

Here are a few that I didnt know before watching:

- Cigarettes kill approx. 400,000 people in the US alone every year
- It is common knowledge now that cigarette can cause many types of cancer
- Cigarettes are grown with radioactive fertilizer
- Cigarettes alone, kill more than all other illicit drugs, murder, aids and cancer combined

- Alcohol kills approx. 80,000 people in the US alone every year
- Prohibition of alcohol actually caused more crimes and death than non-prohibition
- Many violent crimes are committed under the influence of alcohol

- There have been no recorded deaths that have been attributed to marijuana in 10,000 years of use
- You would need to smoke 25,000 joints in 30 mins to achieve a toxic amount of THC in your body
- Marijuana does not kill brain cells
- Why is it that healthy people who smoke marijuana are subject to reefer madness yet unhealthy patients who use MEDICAL MARIJUANA actually benefit from its effects?

I didnt even scratch the surface on the many issues that are presented. Do yourself a favour and light up a fat J, sit down and enjoy this thought provoking documentary.

eLiguL,
eLiguL, I watched the movie a couple times now and it is very good.

I think it's absurd that we aren't at the very least exploring hemp for all it's uses. I'd like to know how much it costs to produce biofuel out of hemp vs. the alternatives.

And I thought pot was decriminalized in Canada, no? How bad are the penalties for the Canadian "fall Guy"?

it was decriminalized for a brief period in canada. but it is illegal however its not a felony.
my dealer was arrested after a bar incident and they found less than 2 grams on him and he had to go to court for the incident but there was no mention of possession. even if you had 3 pounds you probably won't go to jail if its your first offense

Just read this on a forum and just wanted to share:

I think that possession of drug paraphernalia is illegal in some places DC.

I'm not for or against recreational cannabis use, I don't care either way but I have to say it can have serious mental health effects. Schizophrenia is sometimes known by professionals in the UK as 'the black man's disease' because so many young black men who use cannabis suffer from it. It can also cause paranoia and depression as Soot said. Anyone susceptible to mental health problems should be very careful with this drug.

Yes Puffin, I'm sorry to have gone off track, you were indeed talking about medicinal use. My opinion is that one day esmoking will be used to deliver a range of therapeutic drugs but that will be some way in the future.

I thought this was very ironic because she says it causes paranoia, depression, schizophrenia (she colourfully called it "the black man's disease") and called it MEDICINE in the same post.

Last time I checked, marijuana was beneficial in treating depression.

Anything under 14grams, they usually just take it away. I think btw 14-30 grams you can get a fine(similar to a parking ticket) and anything greater than that or if there is intent to sell, they will charge you. as far as i know, that's how they do it in BC

AKA Tommy Chong which has been airing on showtime lately is a good documentry
American Drug War: The Last White Hope has alot of great information in it7
National Geographic's Exolorer Marijuana Nation is suprizingly good
Should I Smoke Dope? was aired on BBC the other night and gave some suprizing facts about smoking.

the last one i really reccomend because it has convinced me even more to only vape. they were showing a 22 year old's lung that had collaped due to smoking weed heavily. even though they went on to say alot of the weed in the UK has small glass beads in it to make it appear more potent. dealers put it in for weight.

and you always have to include a stoner comidy when talking about films, the best i've seen in a while is Smiley Face since it reminds me of a real good friend of mine.

lately there has been atleast one good show on weed on showtime for the last few months. just got to keep your eyes out for them. but smiley face's main actress is anna faris (spelling) from mad tv and house bunny. she plays the part perfect. its just what she does the whole day after she gets really stoned.
