Vaporizing is drying my lungs out.

Hello all.

I've been vaping for about a month now, And It seems that every day at some point (Usually around my 2nd or 3rd vape session) I'll notice my airways will become irritated and I will be unable to continue vaping in some circumstances. I'll be wheezing really bad and even half the amount of vapor I was initially toking is 'too much' and I cough my guts out.

I toked bongs heavy for 3 years straight, I even mixed my weed with tobacco and never had any problem such at this.

Last night I woke up gasping for air and was forced to take some Ventolin, The second I use the Ventolin the problem goes away. I was asthmatic at a child but like I said, I toked bongs HARD without anything like this happening to myself.

I KNOW its the vapor causing this because If i don't vaporize my lungs are completely fine, I've vaped at high and low temps, through a bong and through bags, nothing seems to help.

Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on here?

Just my experience, but it seems to me that Vapor expands in the lungs more than smoke. This can be quite irritating to the tissues. You might try smaller hits? I almost always vape through glass+water and a full size bong will kill my lungs but a smaller bubbler type piece does the trick for cooling & hydrating.

ime it takes about 6 weeks for the expectorant nature of vapor to complete cleaning out the lungs. what you are experiencing may be related to that. particularly if you have used tobacco in the past.

What type of bong/vaporizer setup are you using, increase you moisture conditioning, try warm water...

I am in the same boat as you. My remedy is to take smaller hits. Hot water helps a little, as well.

Try vaping some mint before you vape your meds. It calms the airpath making it ready for smashy vapors.
My DBV violated my airpath a lot before i got water filtration.. It was continuing to irritate my throat, which i solve by getting vaporizer that does not heat only the top of the herb.. overcooking one part while you leave other part unvaped. My Magic Wand was my saviour, but soon i got into too high doses 2-5 g a day or more.. I tried crushed ice and percolation which made the experience smooth and totally non irritating.. Anyway now i am using small load into my UD and still getting fat clouds. I have none of that problems i had with too concentrated vapor(with mw i can vape 0.5 g highest quality in 2-3 drawls) or too dry (DBV).
It was kind of like eating with me. If you overeat you will get stomach issues. I've observed that for example Frenchs and Americans eat almost the same meals but the difference comes in the serving. It is normal to have 100-150 g meal for frenchs in a small plate, but when in USA you are getting a lot of food 300-500 g in a big plate like it is thanksgiving all the time , well we know who has obesity issues :).
So control the total amount of weed you use and make sure you get water filtration, cooling, percolation.
If you have any Asthma issues or lung issues i suggest you get a sea/himalaya salt Inhaler.. It will solve bacteria and infections problems making your airpath healty to stand vapor irritation. Salt doesn't burn your skin but if you put some on a scar or woulnd it will hurt a lot.. i imagine vapor beheaves in the same way .If you have throat problems, lung issues first solve them, than vaporize or you will forever poke the wound with a stick :).

Well instead of using the bag and or whip I only hit my bong today with my Q and it seemed make all the difference. Absolutely no wheezing and no need for Ventolin, I guess I'm going to have to buy another bong or something for my rockzap that Is coming tomorrow or the next day.

I currently have a beautiful Sovereignty stemline (18mm) I bought last year around this time, problem is that I broke the base completely off of it a couple months ago so I have to hold the bong up whilst toking. I want to get it fixed but I don't want to give up water filtration for however long It takes to get repaired.

Anyone have any suggestions to what kind of bong/bubbler would be ideal for smoothness and taste and be able to provide thick vapor with a ceramic rockzap? I would just use my stemline but Its not going to work with the CRZ because they only work with 14mms (I could just buy an adapter I guess) but even then, not entirely sure if they are able to fit a stemline.

Edit: took another elbow from the Q with the stemline and my lungs got completely irritated once again. I'm going to try hot water tomorrow and let everyone know how that works. Hopefully my CRZ arrives as-well!

Perfect! I have a rockzap which i love a lot, i use it daily. the best piece of any that i own is the headford inline! its small and the flow of it just goes so well with the zap i get really good smooth hits and always nice flavor.
its a pretty inexpensive piece as well if you start looking at high end glass(this is a high end piece, just not at the top of the line like a SG piece).

check it out online, i saw some videos of people smoking from it on youtube but that didnt give me a good visual feel for it. i took these which might give you a better view :)
DSC04712.jpg

these are the short GonG stems made for the zap(they work nice! though the stock stem does the job fine too! the gong stems are more stable in the glass joints.

and finally a video of it in use http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z53/WhatTheFuck_33/?action=view&current=MOV04714.mp4

the Zap also wont really allow you to continue the hit as long as you can with the EQ, so that will help prevent you from going past the line and into your irritated zone. its not made for heavy hits that often are irritating(like those from the DBV/SSV/LSV/EQ, etc) but gives nice clean hits.

I have found hot water is not necessary, though there was a point where i swore by it!
In addition, try to use distilled water in your glass, that would be best :)

Thanks for the response NYC! I was wondering how it was going to handle.

Just checked Canada post 'Item out for delivery' So HOPEFULLY it should arrive today!
I'm going to have to check out one of those bubblers, Or I even saw ones made specifically for the PD and RZ for like 60 dollars.

On another note,
This morning I woke up with the same damned problem. I'm going to try to vape less today and see where that takes me, May have to take a break for a bit even seeing as this wasn't happening when I FIRST started to vape.
Maybe the rockzap will be the solution, We will see!

Edit: It arrived shortly after, One thing I notice is that my AVB has a bit of green left to it and is yellow for the most part, It's been on for about 2 hours. Not sure if it has to 'break in' more or not, or if thats how these rockzaps are. None the less I am vaked, But I used as much as I would have in my Q for the same high (Mainly because I kept trying to brown the weed)

Hows it irritation wise? better i hope.

You will get the hang of it more with practice :)

grind and dryness level make a huge difference with the logs

That one is nice too, the headford bubblers are cool pieces!

I also want to agree with Hippe dickie that the longer you vape and go without smoking, the more your lungs will clean themselves out(this can involve irritation and coughing/phlegm), but it gets better. Funny enough i remember when i was mostly smoking but just vaping a decent amount of the time but still smoking very regularly, it would be harsh to inhale vapor, rather i would et a lot of expansion that was painful at times, the more i vaped and less i smoked though, it got better until my throat felt great! I was even vaporizing when i had a bad case of bronchitis! with little irritation. the bronchitis was probably cause by a smoking binge i had gone on when i was actually mostly vaping at that point

I quit smoking tobacco about 2 months ago and have been vaping for about a month now. Combusted weed about 2 times with a buddy (joint) and kief in my pipe (YUCK) made me remember why I bought a vaporizer in the first place

People tell me that lungs can take a while to recover after smoking for so long, But still the dryness isn't anything to do with my lungs cleaning themselves And I know this for fact. No problems today what so ever with the Rockzap, It hits really dry but It doesn't seem to be making me wheeze at all.

I've decided to hold up on the glass unless I wake up tomorrow with the same issues, or unless someone can convince me why it's better hitting a Rockzap through water opposed to dry.

I will tell you why :D

Water will filter particulates. Particles that may otherwise irritate your airways. Water(even room temp water) filtration will also always cool down the vapor a litte, and give it extra time to cool down.

I always hit my rockzap with a water piece, but thats just me. i love my glass
and only the last hit or two i try to get out of a stem will i suck on the stem itself.

I am glad you are feeling better using your new zap! It Will take a while to clean your lungs out, and the dryness may have to do with that since the way they clean themselves out is by getting rid of the phlegm and mucus that will carry that shit out of you. And if you cough and feel something in your throat, SPIT IT OUT as swallowing wont help as all.

I would also recommend if you dont already to take sips of cool water between hits. I find its easy to get dehydrated while vaporizing or even smoking so dont forget the water!

best of luck!

p.s: dont forget to keep your glass clean and pristine

Haha, Well I may just force myself to purchase another glass pieces nyc, Though this morning I feel completely fine. Didn't wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air or any of that shit, First day I got my Rockzap it appears my breathing problems /dry lung vanish.

I have my eye on a couple of pieces

Vertigo 13 inch showerhead bub
http://aqualabtechnologies.com/scie.../vertigo-medium-shower-head-perc-bubbler.html

HVY 13 inch glass beaker
http://aqualabtechnologies.com/scie...y-glass-50-x-5-mm-clear-beaker-13-0-inch.html
SYN inline bubbler

http://aqualabtechnologies.com/scie...ers/syn-glass-inline-bubbler-rasta-label.html

If anyone has got any more suggestions throw them at me, I'm completely up for it!
Of course with any 18.8 Mm I'll need to buy an adapter so It fits my CRZ

i think the sentiment that vaporization is what is causing the irritation is a correct one.
based upon anecdotal evidence, i have concluded that the overall heat transfer to the lungs is greater when vaporizing than when smoking. this can lead to far greater irritation of the mucous membranes in the throat, as well as the lungs. the ways i've found to lessen the shock and damage has been to take smaller hits, using thinner vapor, and cooling the vapor with a water device. that being said the water will remove actives as well as condense them into larger, less effective droplets, but if your lungs are suffering, it's worth the loss IMHO.

If you are having problems with this, such a large piece will not be the answer.

I have used most of my glass with the log vapes and the best so far has been the smallest one i have which is the headford bubbler. The BC showerhead is quite close in comparison though, and would love a Vertigo circ and think it may produce similar results though its a slit and not holes. I would suggest something under a foot tall but eventually its up to you, im just sharing my advice from my experience :2c:

Chib, I recommend any of the pieces listed in my sig. One piece I feel everyone needs in their collection is a Sovereignty stemline. They produce flawless tubes and I am amazed by the craftsmanship every time I use my stemline.

As mentioned I have a SG stemline I purchased last year. It doesn't fit my Rockzap and the base of it is cracked off (ugly).

Leaning towards a HVY because of the suction you get with bongs opposed to bubblers, but now I'm not even sure this rockzap will be able to power it. After my first stem it always loses heat and I cannot seem to get a good hit on my second, I'm not sure that's exactly worth purchasing a bong/bubbler for.

Maybe I need more time with this CRZ but I kind of doubt it, I'm toking it exactly how Rick and Vito have said to and the only time I will get rich tasty hits is off the first stem. People say to wait in between stems but honestly when I want to get high I don't feel like waiting around, That's why I bought this thing!

Anyone know why this is happening? Would a vape like the Underdog be better for me?

Still my lungs seem to be irritated in no way since the day I received this CRZ, so on that note it's fantastic.

Without the right grinded consistency I find it difficult to get good subsequent hits, but when it is at the perfect consistency, I get great rip after rip. It has a big impact on the airflow and therefore its effectiveness.

My 4pc grinder doesnt get it quite fine enough so I run it through that and then give it a quick mince with a small pair of scissors after

its not just the draw. the dryness and grind and they way you load it is just as important and is what allows you to get the most out of it

Why do you not use the rockzap with the stemline? you can try it out, maybe alter the water levels a bit if need be. I have two pieces now that are 18mm but a reducer adapter is neat and easy as hell to clean so you shouldnt think twice about using one. I am using one all the time now

Chib, I'm with you man. The CRZ is a one-hitter for me. Even the load size is about a one hitter for a combustion piece/bat. I usually extract everything on my first hit, then barely see any vapor on the second and rarely anything on the third. That's through my glass pieces. Without glass, I can pull 3 or 4 good hits if the meds are real resinous.

Still love my CRZ, but it doesn't get it done for me in the evenings. Gotta switch to my LSV for sleep mode.

And I love my low-flow 18-14mm reducer from ALT. I use it everyday like NYC.
