Oh yea, it's on now !

Tigers in the playoffs starting tonight against the Evil Empire :goon:
Lions and Cowboys Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.
Some great games in college football this weekend. Nebraska's "initiation" into the Big10 will be interesting.

Well t-dub...looks like we are all safe for the moment with realignment. I'm sure it will pick back up during the basketball season

Originally from Wisconsin, I'm a Packers fan! Great start to the season thus far. Too early to tell I'd say, but looking to be on track for a repeat. Green and Gold for the win!

Tree, PAC 10 12 20 . . . I sure don't know what the answer is. I don't trust the powers that be not to mess up a really good thing like college football though. I am kinda glad we have a bye week, time to heal, and we will be back home at Autzen next Thursday against Cal. I am very nervous about going down to play Stanford. After what happened up here at Autzen Stadium last year, we knocked Owusu out cold then came back to win in the 2nd half, its going to be a war. I wouldn't be surprised to see ESPN Gameday down there for it.

Go Ducks!

I was born and rasied a Lions fan. Always worn a lot of Lions gear and have been a huge Leo's fan through the good times (as few as we have had since the mid 90's) and all of the bad. This 4-0 start has me pretty happy.

I still feel our best football is ahead of us.

gold all in my chains...dont believe me just watch
incredible game today...they could have made it so much easier without all those stupid penalties (thats one of the things that has really hurt us in the past...they are always at the worst times, too...but we still got a fairly young team).

i was honestly expecting a loss until that last timely interception! then i was expecting overtime until the dallas penalty! 2nd half was off the hook! best start in 32 years i think!

this is gonna turn into a michigan-sports thread, soon! but at least we have something to cheer about today!

i was also a lions fan...cant say i bought all their merchandise and told everyone i was a lions fan, but i dont consider myself to be "jumping on any bandwagons". i always love to see my detroit teams do good.

it was just more fun to represent the steelers in the past (i lived there, too)...

Megatron is gonna win me some serious $$$ in my fantasy league this year. He's a TD MACHINE. Even in triple coverage....wow

JD, you should try having an all star QB and WR on the same team. Makes your team a bit inconsistent, but when it pays off... wow. Phillip Rivers and Vincent Jackson got me 18 points from a single touchdown this Sunday!

ok . . . switching to Oregon Duck-Speak for a second. Getting ramped up for CAL tomorrow night, I have Charter Box seats for the game! :D I am truly blessed. Now we all know "It never rains at Autzen Stadium!" but the box is nice just in case we get a heavy fog. The front is open so you still get all of the sounds etc like being in the stands. It should be a fun game.

Go Ducks! :peace:

Wow, I can't believe Mike Stoops got FIRED after losing to the Beavers in Corvallis. Ouch. I know he was on the hot seat but what a way to go. One thing I like about the Beaver Nation is that when you play them at home anything can happen. Like when USC came up there, with Sanchez, and lost.

Maybe I'm a pussy, but I find that kind of awful  A couple of weeks back on here there was a link to hockeyfights.com, or something like it, and I clicked through it a bit to my total amazement. I had no idea ice hockey was quite like that- nothing like normal hockey. And wtf with the referees? Where's the rules? They just stand there watching, almost even encouraging it!

I just don't get it. I guess in my own mind I can't sanction wanting to actually hurt your brethren for no good reason. I think I just lack that testosterone filled aggression, and it seems to me it's bad behaviour towards your fellow man that won't bring you good karma. The dark side of the force. I can just about get boxing as a sport, but I find that shit with the lightweight little gloves in a cage- where they do 'ground and pound'- a bit too much for my pacifist sensibilities :p.

So like I say maybe (definately) I'm bit of a pussy when it comes to fights. I don't like getting hit, and I've only ever fought when I've been forced to and in defense (except once). And certainly not over sport! When ever I see/watch it I always just feel some kind of compassion for the one getting hit.

I like test cricket. Not sure if you've even heard of it in the US, but it's a true gentleman's game. It's synonomous with fair play and a sporting attitude, and I doubt there's ever been a fist fight on the pitch. That said, it is non-contact and played at a very different pace; a match can last for 5 full days (11am-6pm or even later depending on day light), and a test series consists of up to 5x 5day matches. So up to 25 days of play to decide a winner! It's sad when a good test series comes to an end after so much time being involved- it leaves a void!

But it's the kind of psychological battle between teams that you don't see in any other sports IME. It's almost chess like. If you've ever got a spare 5 days to sit down and watch one, I highly recommend it!

But avoid any Australia tests - they have gone way downhill in recent years :lmao:

(bit of a wind up- I've seen how many aussies are on here nowadays- I reckon it includes their dopey cricket team!!!! We're arch enemies on the cricket field. In fairness they're still good at one day cricket, but that doesn't require thinking)

That's North American hockey for ya! Fights are a necessary part of the game.

Fighting must remain in hockey and while there are lots of reasons for it, the most important is for player safety. May sound odd that fighting makes the game safer but one must understand the complete game before this might make sense. The mere threat of being pounded keeps many guys from taking all forms of cheap shots. Fighters are skilled and very professional about their battles, stick swinging, charging, elbows at heads, slew foots, leaving ones feet to empty a guys head are not only unprofessional they are downright dangerous. Hockey has less catostrophic injuries then any of the major sports (and most minor sports) and that is because players either respect the opponent or risk having to battle that opponent with fists.

I just don't get it. I guess in my own mind I can't sanction wanting to actually hurt your brethren for no good reason.

Oh there was a reason.....In this fight, the guy who got KO'd took a cheap shot at the Penguins star defenseman. Asham got into it because he was letting the rest of the team know that we don't take kindly to that. Also, the guy that got knocked out was not a "fighter" by any means, BUT he dropped his gloves anyway (he didn't have to) against one of the toughest enforcers in the league, Arron Asham. And this was also the team that is partially responsible for causing greatest hockey player on the planet (Crosby) to get a serious concussion. The Penguins/Capitals is a great rivalry, and always will be. Glad I got to watch all of this live!

I find THAT kind of awful  Never thought I say this but I think you pointed out a sport to me that sounds worse than Nascar (sorry race fans, I will NEVER get it, and I love cars)

Agree to disagree :D

Post fight antics kind of an ass hat move by Asham in my opinion. Glad to see he was at least a bit contrite in post game interviews.

JD, IME there is nothing like live hockey. Its the sounds, sitting down near the glass, the hits, the speed of the puck, most people don't know they are frozen before games. I remember my parents taking me to see the Briuns on my birthday when I was a little kid. Remember Bobby Orr? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyp8JIhciFg He was a great fighter too.

Anyways, getting ready to go party at Autzen Stadium tomorrow and ESPN's College Game Day is in town!

Go Ducks!!!

Bobby Orr is the man.

My fav Bruin vid ever : http://youtu.be/rSZbZ0Z4zcM

Every time I watch that, when the guy takes the fan's shoe off an beats him with it, just makes my day (and makes me think of Wayne's World 2...."I had to beat them to death with their own shoes" ROFL)

Looking forward to watching Phili East (Flyers) play Phili West (Kings) today. Flyers fans are always so "welcoming" to ex teammates.

What was the question, again?
Being born and raised 40 miles south of Gainesville, FL. I'm a Gators fan. My family has had season tickets since before I was born.

As for pro football, I don't have a team I like so much as individual players. Any Gator is a given. Then other players that stand out for one reason or another.

I've been liking to under dog vibe that the Lions are carrying this year. But I don't think they will be able to keep up their level of play for the rest of the season. Their division is pretty well stacked, and they're one or two injuries on offense away from another .500 or so season. Hopefully they can keep it up. But, if they're gonna, they need to get a lead in the first half and keep it. This second half comeback mentality isn't gonna pay off in the end.

I'm only passively interested in basketball. Since I played baseball as a kid I like going to games, but still find it incredibly boring to watch on TV. Being a FL boy, hockey wasn't very prevalent when I was growing up. I just never really got into it. Being a fan of sports in general, I can watch almost anything, but really it's college and pro football that I like the most.

Dan Wheldon dies at Las Vegas Speedway today. This was the worst crash I have seen since Greg Moore died at the California Speedway in 1999. A terrible tragedy for all.

What a horrific accident. It was almost foreshadowed all week when the drivers were commenting on the speed of the track. I can't imagine how the drivers that caused the wreck must feel about it.

A tragic loss, for sure. I'm more into MotoGP, but I do follow some open wheel racing. It really couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. I don't know a whole lot about him, but it speaks to a persons character when their competitors are crying as they get into their cars to take a few laps honoring their death.

My thoughts go out to his family. 6 month old and a 2 year old he leaves behind. It's sad, his oldest likely wont even remember him...

ok, time to look back to college football. I thought the Beaver Nation had a shot today but once again Andrew Luck, and Stanford, show what a class act they are. Looks like Owusu will be ok, man what a year he has had. I am not looking forward to playing down there next week. But before that we have to take care of the Huskies. Should be a good game. Cold, wet, good football weather. Go Ducks! :argh:
