Careful now, those are NOT "heating" rods. In fact, quite the opposite, they are the coolest part in the area which is exactly why the junk is condensing on them (if they were the hottest, stuff would boil off faster than condense and they'd be self cleaning). Not that why it happens is all that important, but I think we do each other a disservice by continuing to repeat the 'heating rod' idea. For the record, the rods have been copper or steel (sometimes plated) throughout the models. The heat is generated in the screen. Current runs down the wires of the screen from side to side (none front to back for practical purposes) so that's where the heat is generated. Just watch a cleaning cycle and see where the action starts.

Very illuminating indeed.
Thanks OF.
Didn't know that stuff.

Incidentally, how do you know all this?
You sound almost as clever as me. :D

Hi all.

I've contacted Magic Flight customer support about this, but it's been a couple days with no response. I have no doubt they'll get back to me, but I just want some input until then.

I had my MFLB for about 9 months, and I absolutely loved it; it worked flawlessly and served me well through countless trenches. Unfortunately, an irate, now ex-girlfriend took a hammer to it, and it's pretty severely busted. (She's not as big of a bitch as she sounds; I don't forgive her for it, but she regretted it almost immediately after. One of those heat of the moment things.)

I can attach the picture I sent to MF if you want, but I'd rather spare you all the sight of a horribly mangled box. It really is pretty depressing to see. I couldn't even recover all of the plastic screen.

Although the $100 to get a new one isn't horribly steep, I was wondering if my box is still covered under the warranty. I saw something on the website about the warranty being revoked if the box was deliberately damaged.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

To the point of the water adapter, I'm sure Magic-Flight has only the customer's best interests in mind with pulling the water adapter site. I'm also sure that's a temporary move and whatever their next reveal is will either be a true mind-blower or a practical, useful, attractive improvement to the original adapter. If you want to have one and not have to wait for the sake of your lungs or for bigger clouds, try Vapornation.com or Ebay.

OF, thanks for your clarifying post on the heating mechanicisms/properties of the screen, very helpful for my understanding and for others. As far as my own box goes, I do get that blackish buildup every now and then, and it's easy enough to get off with the ISO, a toothpick, qtip, or small toothbrush (although I've not always had one of those around, they work great!)

VITO! Nice morning flight there! I appreciate those clouds. Enough so that I think I'll have to go make some of my own soon..

Or, well.. I'm actually on a weeklong break so far from any vaping and I think I may keep it up until the following saturday. I've been almost daily for about a year so this is a big deal to me. But it feels great to be clear-headed, totally active, and succeeding in my life with a fulltime and parttime job now!
Last night was my first time washing dishes at a Cafe in Bristol, Vermont where I was fed a beautifully presented and cooked meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes throughout my shift, then at the end, rewarded with the most scrumptious Crem Brule in the known universe!!! :ko:

I agree with this post, and that sounds delicious.
Will wait and watch for new mf adapters. :)

Hey guys, i lent my buddy my launch box and he ripped the screen on it. I was wondering if anyone had any insight on the average response time for warranty replacements lately?

All due respect dude, but fuck you. It was an honest question.

mod note: Responding to an out of line post with the same is still a rules violation.

YES! :D

in fact MFLB has great customer service and will most likely replace it even though it was "deliberately" damaged.

Since you're being so respectful and all, how does a dipshit get the nerve to even ask for a replacement when he has a girflfriend so damn stupid? I mean come on? Anybody with a set of balls..... Nevermind,,,, I totally get the picture now. ;)

Jeppy, do you want to prevent him from trying the amazing MF customer service? I think it doesn't matter to them how the box is killed, i think they are incinerating all warrantied boxes so the serial number can't be reused. Their warranty system is as simple and ingenious as the box itself. If the serial number is still readable imo you can get a replacement.

Perhaps the issue isn't 'can he' but 'should he' ask for MF to replace the unit at no cost (to her)? I've no doubt that MF will cover willful destruction of property by a 3rd party (they're making an aggressive stand), perhaps the question is 'should the customers who didn't destroy someone else's property have to pay'? Make no mistake, the replacement isn't free, it has a real value someone (else) will have to cover. Or the cost could be lower. Trivial as that cost might be to each user, it is real.

This is the 'logic' we see used to justify Insurance Fraud claims as 'it's only an Insurance company.....nobody get's hurt'.

A contract was made at the purchase. It included defects, normal use and accident. Even dropping it and stepping on it accidentally. Not criminal activity by a third party. MF is under no obligation at that level, but as I said for PR would probably not balk. If it was my GF that did it, I know what I would do.....and it probably wouldn't include expecting someone else to be responsible for her actions. She is, IMO, responsible for what she did and doesn't merit a 'bail out' by MF. The wisdom of hanging with a woman that can 'loose it' and resort to violence on a surrogate object when 'out of control' is a topic for another day and forum.

I have been abroad for the past half year and actually never got a chance to return my used/damaged box (it was an emergency). Haven't touched it since. Do you guys think I should try to send it back? Not sure if my warranty is still intact.

As long as it has a serial number it is good. LIFETIME replacement warranty :)

Yes, I agree.

If the device was broken by your GF, it shouldn't really matter.
In such situations, the company needs to show some latitude.
And the word on the street is that MFLB's replacement policy is true to its word.

From an insurance POV, the insurer will need to decide 'wilful damage' (you doing it) as opposed to accident (GF doing it).
The reason why someone else damaging it is seen as an 'accident', is because that's what it is from your POV.
And since accident is covered, then you should get a replacement.

Like Nycdeisel says, you'll need an authentic serial number, and the rest should be fine.
(And you might need to post it to them or email a pic)

MF responded to me and I gave them all the details; hopefully I'll get good news. Just curious, what do they call for? Just to confirm address and serial number or whatever?

Thanks for the constructive responses.

it was just a formality and alternative form of communication when i did my warranty replacement two weeks ago. I was not called.

I had to provide pictures of the serial, the back and the top in a response email. I was weary about sending my old box back so I then needed to supply pictures of my box with the screen torn out to maintain my warranty.

theyre quick and great with service, as many people have pointed out.

Thanks for the input. My box is pretty caked in all kinds of resin (especially under the screen) and residue so I'm a little wary of sending it in too just gotta clean the shit out of it?

once the pictures are taken you can probably clean it real thoroughly because you dotn have to worry about its functionality.

my profession made me a little hesitant.

no return address, probably no foul though. but i stayed on teh safe side.
