I live in SW Washington. It looks like our county is getting 11 legal cannabis stores sometime in the near future. Not sure exactly when maybe a few this summer? The city of Seattle will be getting 21 and King County that's the County that includes Seattle will be getting a total of 61 legal shops.

It says that they estimate 40 metric ton of cannabis in 2014 will be grown in Washington State.

The reluctant Feds allow pot background checks. After years of silence the Justice dept says it will let Washington state access FBI database to vet legal cannabis dealers.

So far the state has issued 10 cannabis growing licenses.

Thats a step in the right direction. It's about time the Feds come around since they have already given Colorado access to the FBI database.

Pot business lottery winners were announced on Friday by the state's Liquor Control Board. Applicants haven't been named publicly. It doesn't guarantee a license. All the winners will be going through rigorous background checks. These lottery winners will be checked to see if they have the financial resources and a viable business plan.

On Monday 15 licensing investigators will start checking the backgrounds of the successful applicants. 50 law enforcement officers will begin making site visits soon.

David Moore was a winner in the lottery. He said, "cannabis has been a big part of my life for quite some time." He and his wife are investing their life savings and their retirement, everything they have. He hopes to open the one store in Tumwater Washington. David Moore and his wife previously operated a store that sold hemp related products. Moore said, "that it is a great opportunity, but it's greater responsibility to earn the public's trust and to make it work."

The state hopes that some stores will open in July.

People are trying to cash in on their lottery to be able to have a license to open a rec marijuana store in Washington. There are at least 5 listings of people claiming they won the marijuana store lottery on Craigslist. People are trying to sell their lottery winnings.

One man said he would sell his for a million dollars.

Dave Comeau of Bremerton who won a lottery for the retail mj lisence said he came to the realization that somebody else could do a better job with financing and more connections. He said he sold his chance for a recreational marijuana store for $150,000 and 10% of the net revenue or a minimum of $10,000 a month.

Comeau only spent $250 to apply for a license.

I guess that's entrepreneurship in America. Somehow it doesn't seem right.

Just because the person buys the license does that mean they are automatically able to operate? I imagine they will have to meet all of the requirements etc. Something seems not 100% clean/solid with that.

No, just because a person has a winning lottery to open a rec mj store doesn't mean they will be able to do so.

There are several criteria that the individual has to go through. They have to prove they have financing resources and a viable business plan. There are very rigorous background checks.

Also law enforcement will be inspecting the locations of where the retail stores will be. They need to make sure it fits all the regulations, such as not too close to a school or daycare center and all the other hoops they have to jump through.

So the medical cannabis dispensaries are charging $40 for an 1/8 of an ounce. Sounds like the cost will be about double but who knows exactly. At the rec stores they expect it to be higher than Colorado's price.

I just received my mmj certificate here in wa. I'm a little nervous what the state is going to do next legislative season. That cost for an 1/8 will make it difficult for mmj patients if the state forces dispensaries to pay that high cost in taxes.

The owner of Olympia’s first licensed recreational marijuana retail store expects to open for business in early August.

The city received a land use application this month from Green Lady Inc. The store is slated for 3044 Pacific Avenue Southeast, unit B, in the same building as Rodriguez Tire Shop, which is located next to the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

Green Lady is navigating the public process this summer. The public is invited to ask questions and learn more about Green Lady’s proposal during an informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. June 26 at City Hall. The public comment period ends July 1, and the Olympia Hearing Examiner is expected to make a decision July 28.
