set and setting

this is something i see mentioned here and there but missed a topic dedicated to it (although it may exist), so here we go...

to me, placing your mind in the right place prior to vaporizing is not just crucial, it makes it. i think its actually a bit more important to your experience than even the herb. the mind is the real wonder here, and the herb is helping to make connections easier, but not making it entirely, in other words...it does not create new matter in our minds. so putting your mind in one place over another will have drastic effects, least with me it does.

there are times i can put mind over matter real well and it does not matter too much what is around me (mediation) but mostly i find the highest levels of experience occur when i pay special attention before hand to create an environment that suits the intended destination.

for me, i get lifted the highest when laid flat on my back outside on the ground (earth contact) well after most are asleep (midnight) and no sounds other than some very light music (for me, its hammock) or perhaps none at all. the isolation of people, sounds, etc helps to allow the mind to wander down the path as its assisted with herb. no distractions, just beautiful chaotic thought processes to observe. the more you shut off the more gets turned on.

curious how others handle the set and setting...

i completely agree with you, during my early smoking days about 90% of the time i got high was in car cruises, and to this day i always find the effects magnified significantly when in a moving vehicle. In contrast, my home had negative connotations when stoned, as my mother was strictly anti-pot and i felt paranoid and uneasy and my highs always disappeared in 20 minutes or so, though my bedroom at night was an exception as i felt safe and secluded there. However, after medicating plenty in my house since my mom has eased up on her negative feelings about marijuana, i find myself able to get plenty baked at home.

indeed it's important, it can also change the high a lot
for example, if I combine weed with my tibetan singing bowl I can get a great high, but it's never a laugh/giggle/silly kind of high, but often philsophical/thinking/epiphany high

I have also experienced the importance of set and setting. If I don't meditate and calm my mind before partaking at home, just the sight of my wife will get me extremely turned on  Not a bad thing, but not always desirable. I always viewed it as anxiety being manifested as sexual desire. If I dump all the junk, my highs are clean and clear :peace:

Mindset is key. Its not that you won't get crazy high if you vape when sad, but it won't be as good quality a high. Being in that positive frame of mind is why I prefer vaping alone. Too many downers out there.

I never vape when I'm not feeling good(except if it's physically frm a cold/flu)

Setting is key, there is no better place to partake than in a location that someone can feel comfortable in even when not high. It's never fun to get stuck in a place or situation that you don't want to be in when medicated. Our minds are responsible for so much, both the positive and negative.
