In my opinion, Obama won because his MMJ stance... That got him California. Hed better supplement this shit with something that helps true patients gain safe access or he could regret it. I know its really not his responsibility, but I'm just saying, hes losing repor. Repor that is essential for re-election. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and play the role to build the repor necessary to move forward. On the other hand, maybe these actions will buy him the leniency to do so, we will see.

http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Obama_responds_to_criticism_over_medical_marijuana_raids?dpl_id=423657

In January 2004, then-Illinois Senator Obama said, "The war on drugs has been an utter failure. We need to rethink and decriminalize our nation's marijuana laws." Since he took office as president, over 170 raids have been conducted on medical marijuana facilities across the U.S.
In the U.S. certain states have voted to allow for the use of marijuana for medical purposes, although it is still illegal to possess and consume under federal law. This has led to the recent raids and seizures on dispensaries by authorities with the federal government.
"What I specifically said was that we were not going to prioritize prosecutions of persons who are using medical marijuana," President Obama said. "I never made a commitment that somehow we were going to give carte blanche to large-scale producers and operators of marijuana – and the reason is, because it's against federal law. I can't nullify congressional law."
"In many respects [the raids in California] are not a surprise considering that these dispensaries and cultivation centers are in violation of federal law, and always have been." said Allen St. Pierre, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML). Along with the advocates at NORML, multiple lawmakers have written letters to President Obama criticizing his alleged shift on policy. The lawmakers have also called for the federal government to allow states to regulate themselves.
While medical marijuana is legal in California, as well as sixteen other states including Washington DC, the Controlled Substances Act classifies marijuana as an illegal substance. California state law requires dispensaries to run as non-profit, and those who do make a profit are subject to getting raided by federal and local authorities. "If you grow a small amount at home or buy some off the street then he doesn't care, that's what they've said," St. Pierre said.

You're stating a fact as an opinion. That's like saying, in my opinion, fire is hot.

Here is a FACT and not an opinion. Obama did not win because of his MMJ stance. There are a LOT of things that go into a candidate winning, and while his stance on MMJ was a small part of it, it surely wasn't big enough to push him into the Presidency, let alone, get Cali. Hell, when the vote came up in Cali to legalize MJ, it was voted down.

I grant you a strong potential of being correct. These raids make me angry and anger begets irrationality.

But comparing a vote to stop legaization (which would have dented profit of unregulated sales) to a vote to elect a president that appears to be pro MMJ and claims he will stop the raids is also equally silly.

It is scary how close Mitt romney is getting... Do people even listen/watch him? He's a doucher! Hell, if Obama is put up against Romney his slogan should be changed from "Change" to "Not Romney".

Sorry about venting, but if you think the raids in Cali is bad now... With Romney calling the shots our community will be shut down. :bang:

Obamas not a doucher? I'd rather have a republican back in office. This guys a tool and an anti American one at that. The dream act alone is the reason why I want him out of office. Why does an illegal alien get more opportunities than children of tax paying US citizens? There is something seriously wrong here. With the current economy, tons of people out of work and continuing to be out of work and mass foreclosures, I think our people should come first, ALWAYS!

I just saw a video on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and it's making me think of his reference to Federal Law, and the emotional emphasis I can imagine he placed on the statement.

Maybe what they're saying is their needs aren't being met, and they don't want to change anything until they feel they are.

Probably around public safety and employer/employee relationships.

Of course, our needs aren't being met either, we don't feel safe, partially because of how they've handled cases recently. (- almost like from the video I watched)

I've thought for some time its' simply a matter of making them give back what they stole under false pretense, but there's another dimension to this I can see now.

Is the helping of some disadvantaged human beings really the biggest gripe you've got with the man? And it's not even opening that many doors for alien kids as far as I can see- there're a few high hoops to jump through. I can think of far worse things that governments do to pick on which waste resources. Things that cost far more but help no one but the privileged. You've just picked on the weaker, somewhat defenceless, target-in this case innocent children because of the choices of their parents (choices I'm sure many of us would make in those shoes). There's something seriously wrong there IMHO. Focusing economic frustration on the social underdog is how radicalism like Nazism gets a foot hold.

yeah, I'd suggest, gently...

"Be a cautious news consumer," and you'll never go wrong.

There is some controversy around the Dream Act, but it's *probably not reported fairly. If you go looking for articles you'll see the other side, and then I'd like to hear what you think, not just about the Act itself, or how it can't get past our Republican House (they say it'll encourage more illegal aliens), but about how you initially were told the story, and how you feel about being mis-lead like that.

You may feel exactly the same, I don't know. just, please, keep an open mind, bumps ahead,

*been almost a year since I stopped watching that drivel...we're all too smart for TV, they've just hidden that fact from us with their actors who play news men. I keep well enough informed now, that when I do happen to see a few minutes, I can see right through it, and have to stop myself from calling it out (wife doesn't like being told she's watching lies and innuendo, don't know how she can't tell just from their tone of voice). No one wants to be challenged on what they think are their most basic beliefs. Helped me to take a look, a lot.

While I agree with many things in your statement and I am all for helping the underdog I just don't think it should be done at our countries expense. My problem with Obama is the extremes he is trying to make the government impinge on peoples and states rights. Obama has written more laws into affect in the middle of the night then any other president. Including the law that allows him to arrest a us citizen and hold him without trial (done on new years eve while everyone's distracted). He also sued Arizona for trying to close it's borders, sued other states for triyng to require voter ID to reduce voter fraud as discrimination or some nonsense, voted down the excelsior pipeline keeping us dependent on foreign oil and denying thousands of jobs to the American people whie also keeping gas prices high. Along with other things i am sure I left out. It's not bad to help the underdog just don't make me pay for it when I don't choose too. /end rant

It's quite simple....

1) he has FAILED to Adhere to the US Constituion when implementing laws.
2) stimulus failed
3) healthcare bill will bankrupt us
4) pushing the dream act
5) added trillions to Our national debt
6) Fighting Arizona for enforcing federal law... Yet federal law attempts to overturn state law, ie mmj for example.
7) AAA downgrade
8) allows us companies to still avoid paying their fair share of taxes by holding their cash overseas (apple is one of them)
9) allowed banks to double dip with a bailout. Remember these asses are the cause of the economy collapse in the first place including their bogus mortgage loans those wrote.
10) where's the one day mortgage rewrite for people who can't afford their mortgages anymore due to interest rate increases he signed in 2009?

I can go on...

Now I do like he overturned the freedom act by placing time limitations on document access. He also put the hurt on lobbyist , which is a good thing. Personally lobbying shouldn't even be allowed... Watch casino jack

I think it's propaganda that it's at your countries expense. So is the more profitable solution for the USA to keep innocent kids, damned by the choice of their parents, as illegal with no real home? That just seems to contribute to a problem for the future and neglects a resource. These are almost American kids as far as I can tell- I'm sure after such formative years in the US many would be pretty lost if returned to their families country. There could be the next Bill Gates or Zuckerburg amongst those little foreign aliens, even given a small opportunity. I'm sure the USA will welcome them then. Keeping these people down isn't going to make life for the average American any better, and opening a tiny opportunity isn't going to bankrupt the nation (or does the US economy require ample supply of very poorly paid illegal immigrant labour to thrive?)

And in relation to the second quoted comment, when would you choose to help illegal immigrants? There are many out there that would never offer help, no matter how profitable the economy was, and would always say the same about using their taxes to help someone else. The fact is that the world is not falling down and America isn't on it's last legs. Life's actually still pretty good, needs are met and lifespan is increasing. It's just a bad global recession that we're all finding our way out from, with difficulty (double dipped here), but it will happen- these things go in cycles. A bad spell doesn't mean we have to compromise our humanity.

It's pure fear mongering by the far right to bring help offered to immigrants in on this- playing on the darker side of human nature. It's a minor issue in the grand economic scheme, and should hardly come into the debate.

It's quite simple....
Is it? Lot's of your list is a manifestation of a worldwide recession, not really the makings of an individual or government policy. Many governments have been struggling with similar issues with limited success. It's dancing to the tunes of political campaigns to believe that this is Obamas doing.

I personally feel slightly sorry for the guy- if he had come into office in a different economic context then I think he would have changed America and the world for the better. He's the first US president I've seen in my living memory that seems to personally have a modicum of a clue about right from wrong and isn't pure villain (though I was quite disappointed at his handling of Bin Laden). Maybe he might even have been able to sort MMJ a bit better if he wasn't so busy with a struggling economy as the priority. Instead overpowered officials carry on the persecution, but I think Obama knows it's wrong on a personal level. Progressive change is much easier when the other things are going well.

This resistance to giving medical care is beyond me though- I think it's verging on uncivilised. But then I was watching Judge Judy the other day and it dawned on me how massive the legal industry is for the recovery of medical costs. Just one aspect that would vanish overnight. It's so clearly the stranglehold of private business interests that keeps this situation. It will not bankrupt the country, simply change the shape of the healthcare economy.

The world economy revolves around the us economy. Thanks to Clinton and his drive to bring china to America for free, we are feeling the effects of it now. I think china owns close to 30% of our debt now. It was high 20s around march when I checked last.

So you're saying it's ok to give opportunity for those who enter the us illegally, but not offer the same free opportunities to our own citizens? Bollocks. Our own citizens deserve every opportunity the government offers. Illegally entering the us shouldn't warrant assistance on my tax dollars. We spend to much money with offering print material in Spanish. If you want to sneak into the us, learn the language... In California alone I wouldn't want to see the annual spending on offering material printed in other languages besides English.

You can't have a large military playing world police and offering free healthcare. It's one or the other... I've seen countless people from both Canada and England come to the usa to get better medical assistance...

Obama is a villian in his own right. Second year in office, no show at Arlington cemetery.. But sends biden so he can goto chicago. But he decides, he will make it back in time to honor Paul McCartney? So third year in office, he was on the verge of not going to Arlington because he was going to be in Poland instead. Is there any reason an American president needs to visit polands Tomb of the unknown solider? Or be out golfing? Due to an article may 28th 2011, he goes to Arlington on the 30th... Had that article not of been written, he would of sent Biden again. Who the hell sends the vice president to lay the wreath on tomb?

Don't get me started on his Foreign policy where he wants to erase the past with communist and radicalt nations... Plus giving millions To hamas... The dude is a disaster and needs to get the hell out of office. Would you like to discuss illegal aliens who are allowed to claim their nieces, nephews, etc in Mexico as dependents and get tax credit for them? Illegal aliens aren't paying taxes in most cases, then walk away $10k richer with the credits, lol. Yeah, nothing wrong with that at all.... They aren't even fricken citizens, so how are they allowed to get tax credits to begin with? Thanks Obama. The majority leader blocks every attempt when it's brought up in the senate....

Since you're from the uk, it's hard for you to understand illegal aliens coming in from Mexico. I guess the best way to help you understand is how the pakis came into the uk in the 80s during the falkland war.

Not to be overly simplistic here but while politics remains hostage of the big economic groups, the problem will be the same. Whether its Obama, Bush or Romney, the direction to follow is where the money is.

Blaming Obama is like blaming the car for killing someone instead of the people driving it. And it is not Obama, he is just the spokesperson currently elected. This is how i see it, and it is true in the US as well as in many other countries.

We need to stop regarding borders, language or money as a differetiating factor. You feel you belong in a certain country or a certain continent and you think you are above other people's problems just because you were born with a better quality of life. US citizens invaded North America to begin with, way back when, in 1492 and immigration as shaped the country as in many other places in the world.
What would happen if who was in charge were still the native americans and they said that all of you had to leave to your ancestours countries?? That is different right? But only because you are on the other side now. Before there were not any immigration laws, or it was at least much more easy to travel from country to country. This is the kind of stupidity that comes with a short memory! All of you US citizens were once as immigrants as the mexicans trying to cross the border today.

MMJ politics will change when enough people realize they can make enough money with it and when enough people are educated in the real problems and advantages of the plant instead of this fear inducing propaganda.

Until then, politicians will say and do what warrants them elections, and that is what the majority thinks.

I do not have a short memory. What I do not like is illegal aliens coming here and taking all the benefits they can get while legal people suffer. I say if they want to be citizens, do it LEGALLY. Don't come here illegally and expect a handout, it's wrong! Oh, and learn English!! Why in the fuck should we have to learn Spanish to accommodate illegal aliens?

I don't think people should expect a handout or speak spanish and hope to be understood. I do think that, if you have that kind of social care, then after an immigrant gets the US citizenship, then he should expect that he is treated as a proper US citizenship.

What i am against is demonizing people who leave everything behind to try and make a better life for themselves in a foreign country. And that is especially ironic when the history of US is precisely the tale of people leaving everything behind and come to the new world and try their luck. As a species we are used to migrate for better life conditions, only now we have borders..

Illegal aliens are getting handouts by being on Food stamps and other programs, etc. on the taxpayers dime, and the gov't lets them get away with it. It's bullshit. Again I say, no other country would cater to an illegal alien, and they certainly wouldn't support them with gov't programs. Other countries would make you become a citizen or you can leave.

I have a bigger issue with the kids of illegal aliens. It was not their choice to break the law. Should they be held accountable for the actions of their parents? Should they be granted the same rights as every other american citizen being that they were born here or brought here as infants?

Saw a news clip of children of illegal aliens who graduated with honors at a major university, and there were a group of them in tears because they would not be able to get a job due to their illegal status. Is this the right thing to do?

I'm quite aware what paki means in the uk... I knew you would understand what it means. I'm cymru and have family in south Cardiff, other parts of England and Ireland. Our illegal alien problem here is 20x worse than back home. The aliens here have completly over saturated the welfare system here. Now that real us citizens need help because of the economy, the are ran through hoops to get any aid. I hope arizona wins their fight with the government in regards to immigration. It's out of control around border states.

And illegal alien life quality if good as ever. No one tells them they need 10 kids... They do it because states like ca give them shitloads of free money because of how the liberals have chosen to run this state. Hell ca is on the verge of collapse because of it.

Most illegals come from Mexico or South American countries and most have VERY strong ties to the Catholic church. They have large families in their home countries as well. Why? Could it be for the same reasons that many Catholic families here who are not illegals, have lots of kids also. Could it be a religious issue that overrides financial issues?

While I have no doubt that "some" illegals have kids because of the financial "benefits" that they may get, to make a blanket statement such as you have made, in my opinion, is erroneous at best.

They shouldn't be granted citizenship in the first place. I'm more curious how they got to a university? They are taking away opportunities from American families IMHO. If you want to come to the us,,do it legally. Not be rewarded for sneaking in and causing my tax dollars to support their future endeavors.

I work for my family to give them better opportunities.. Instead we are railroaded by illegal aliens getting free handouts to free higher education that working Americans should qualify for. This also goes for trying to start your own business. Government programs give more opportunities to non citizens than citizens. There's something seriously wrong here.

Obama is just trying to make it worse. Republicans don't want the dream act... Liberals do... Texas and Arizona are model states, who don't fuck around with immigration issues.. ca should take note and perhaps, they will figure out their budget crisis starts with all the freebies they give out to these aliens in the first place.

I have no sympathy for people trying to screw over the system and opportunities meant for OUR children. It's not my problem they are born where they are. That's like me complaining I wasn't born a millionaire.

Somewhere along the lines, they need to be held accountable for their wreckless decision of having more children than they can support. You are confusing being catholic with being Mormon. Mormon have more children than Catholics. I was raised catholic and so was my wife. At no time were we told to have a bucket load of children. They know they will get xx amount of dollars for each kid. Since they are not required to pay anything back, they don't care. If you recall 2005/2006 when ca had those huge immigration rallies where 1 million of them showed up in downtown la,news cameras captured these people saying Mexico was número uno. Well if thats the case, go back... Not to mention their waving of the mexico flag.

At my house you will find four flags flying... The highest flag that flies above all is the american flag in my yard. Respect where you come from, but love the country you reside in.
