Getting medical eval next week, what to expect?

Elluzion

Vapeosaurus Rex
Hey guys!

I am going in to get a medical evaluation for my medical cannabis card. I have chronic lower back pain from a dance injury and acquired a letter from my massage therapist as proof, so I shouldn't have any issues with that.

What can I expect in terms of how it goes, etc?

(also, i am going to medican)

Thanks!

I just had my evaluation last week. My doctor wanted to see some documentation from any "certified medical professional". When I asked for clarification as to what this meant he said "any professional that has been certified. This could include your doctor, or any doctor, even a certified accupuncture specialist, but NOT your local massage parlor". I'm pretty sure he was referring to the rub-and-tug joints that don't have certified message therapists per se. He said he just needs something that showed that my issue(s) had been discussed with someone other than him. He specifically said NOT to mention anything about marijuana, and didn't want anything from said certified medical professional that suggested the use of marijuana, but rather just a mention that my issue(s) had been discussed during my visit.

You should be prepared to explain specific examples of how your daily life is improved by the use of medical marijuana.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information! I was talking to a friend that recently got his and he said they barely asked any questions and it was chill.

Basically my note from my therapist states how i have been seen on a regular basis for therapeutic massage treatments for relief of chronic pain and i am working on my lower back with sports and deep tissue massage sessions as well as daily home exercise that includes stretching. It also says how my symptoms are a result of a dance related injury and that I have notioned against the use of pharmaceutical treatment.

Thanks for the luck! I will let you guys know how it goes!

Good luck! Sounds like it will go just fine.

I wish I was in a state where this was possible :/

i wouldnt worry about it at all. especially since you have that letter proving your chronic back pain.

people have even got medical cards from "writer's cramp" of all things.

If you've been taking any prescription drugs for your condition, it may not be a bad idea to bring those along with ya.

I opted out of going to the doctor and getting prescribed prescription drugs, it just wasn't worth it to me, cannabis has been perfect though.

can't wait!

I just wish we didn't have to hide behind crap like this in order to do what we do. I don't want to get a card because I'm of the belief that I shouldn't have to sign my name on a list that says "I use cannabis." I don't have to go to the booze doctor to get a special card to buy alcohol.

Sorry I know this is off-topic, but I just had to rant.

Do you mean hide behind injuries and conditions that are "medically approved" for the use of cannabis in order to use it regularly?

Yeah i know, i get what you mean. Our world is kind of messed up. First off marijuana should NOT be illegal by any means. It is the most natural drug out there and there is a huge X over it for some reason? I still blame the pharmaceutical companies for their buillshit of thinking we need all these drugs, when all you really need is good nutrition and exercise. I am kind of disappointed with how things are evolving. Just look at the food industry, lying to us "got milk"? we don't even need milk in our diets. They are for calfs, but the industry just wants money so they make us think we need milk to "build strong bones and teeth" actually it does the opposite.. Its sad. Maybe things will fix themselves out someday, but for now, the internet has been my greatest resource in acquiring knowledge to look past all the "nonsense" in this world and instead of believing what everyone else is telling me, I have my own beliefs.

I couldnt agree more with everything you just said.

I think he just means that some people do abuse the medical cannabis system that is currently in place and that you shouldnt have to be sick just to acquire this flower. However, there will always be those that will abuse the system, and those whom are actually genuine.

:)

Yeah i understand. The interesting thing is that when most people are sick and can acquire their cannabis card, they still choose those prescription drugs because society tells us marijuana is bad and if you smoke pot you become lazy and sit on a couch all day, okay well maybe part of that is true but still (if you want to sit on a couch all day thats your thang) :brow:. With good comes bad, with an imperfect system comes abuse and non-abuse. It is part of life. Just have to take it in, and toke out.

I am still waiting for the day that doctors prescribe NUTRITION instead of Prozac or whatever bullshit drugs the pharmaceutical companies pay him or her to prescribe. The thing is that if a doctor prescribed nutrition, no one would take them seriously.

If physical therapy doesn't work out for me, I am going to follow a natural medicinal doctor path :)

You are right, there are still a lot of patients out there in the more relaxed states that dont realize how lucky they are to live in such a place, and still wont accept how harmful prescription drugs really are. But the laws do vary from state to state, so it isnt always possible for one to acquire 'medical cannabis'

The thing about this herb is that when your high, your senses and emotions are heightened, and can make things more intense. People who start out lazy and then start using may become lazier or they may stay the same, or they could turn their lazyness around completely. I am pretty lazy, and I dont feel like the herb has made it any better or worse.

Yes, there is not a lot to do until everyone(or at least most people) are aware of how the current measures are working out.

Yes very true, I forgot that it wasn't legal in all states, Whoops

I work in a retirement home and trust me...the people who took the natural medicinal path are the oldest and healthiest there. Those who chose to use man made painkillers(like oxycotin) are mindless grumpy addicts. It really is amazing to talk to them and the ones who admit to using marijuana also happen to be the sharpest, nicest, and healthiest. I hope you decide to take the natural path. ;)

remember if all else fails just throw in there that you have eyeball headaches or writers cramp. its quite astonishing to me that they give people med cards for writers cramp. youd think that those doctors writing all those scripts would write one for themselves.

best of luck to you and please let us know how you favor.

i wish i lived in a med state, but then again im lucky enough to not have any medical issues that plague me.

furthermore, do you guys look down upon those who get med cards with no health issues? to be completely honest i dont at all, i just look at them as regular people who are trying to bypass the harsh laws we have. not to mention theres much better variety in shops and you dont have to deal with someone who could potentially rip you off.

haha. if all else fails I'll say that i've been having some anxiety lately too, which is actually true ha. yeah writers cramp is a little excessive.

I go in tomorrow! I will update you guys and let you know how it goes. If all goes well, i will make my first pickup at a place near my house, they do 4.5g 1/8ths on Wednesdays :)

Well, you get a letter. But most places accept the letter. The card is basically proof that you have the letter from the cannabis doctor. So either or usually works :) <3

The "card" is absolutely useless in most cases. When people say "I have my card" they are referring to their letter of recommendation. Some offices will try and sell you a card saying that it can help if you get into some trouble with the law, but it doesn't mean anything....just a piece of plastic. What you need is your actual letter of rec with the doctors embedded seal (stamp) in order to make it a legal document. Thus, a copy of the req will not get you into a dispensary, because there is no indented seal on it.

And yes, as soon as the doctor signs the paper, you have all the rights any other medical MJ patient has. It goes into affect immediately.

Yay! I got my letter of recommendation! Process was simple, the doctor was stoned haha... Made the process a bit easier :)

Made my first pickup!

Organic Green Crack: 3.9G
GranDaddyPurple: 1.1G
And an Edible :) All for $40!

Not too bad! :)

A lot will depend on the Doc you go to. But getting a MMJ card isn't a wink and nod type deal. They'd like you to act professionally as a patient and probably consider themselves responsible doctors. Get your story straight and be respectful and you'll get respected in return. ;)
