Dry flower thermostatic e-Cig format possible via optical coupling?

    Salutations everyone,

Just a tought... Right now e-Cig junctions only provide 2 electrically conductive paths: the body + a center pin. That's it, 1 pair which is reserved exclusively for the heater contacts.

So, without a sensor such as an electronic detector or a thermocouple there obviously can't be any real temperature regulation and hence customers are only being offered power control at best, but...

Watch out!! An emerging product appears to have opened the door to some potential innovation lately:

In lack of detailed information i can only infer that the translucent cylindrical body (near the lower-right side of the heater coil) captures a fraction of its orange glow to feed it to electronic circuitry. This heater looks pretty much like that of a Snopp Dogg (e-Cig fashion) vaporizer:

So, i figure if it's possible to capture and guide some of that orange light through a piece of glass used for the screw-base then we'd have 2 junctions in 1: the already well known electrical part and a new optical path to close the feed-back loop of a genuine type of heat controler... Hopefully thermostatic for all practical purposes, yet in a "Pen" format!

This would preserve the convenient air-tight cannabis path(s) containment keeping away potential contaminants from electronic hardware down below, whatever.

    ...

Now, one would think that dim orange glow might be too faint so what about halogen-based dry flower e-Cig shaped units - since it appears a layer of glass is required anyway?...

    :peace:

    ADDENDUM:

The simple addition of colour filters would allow multiple optical signals to be transfered simultaneouly through a very same light conduit... This means while using some heat source as bright as a halogen bulb it becomes a viable idea to plan for a cannabic bowl scan, in order to determine vapour thickness and hence ultimately reduce (or even turn off) the heater, to prevent the risk of chocking from a toke which would have proved to be too thick anyway.

One single translucent annular piece of heat-resistant material on top of the electronics section should easily handle such a task of optical coupling. While i consider more stress will come from the oven side, because of intense heat, it seems to me the light guide requires nothing more than a glass rod or equivalent and yet that will still align properly with its annular counterpart. Split it using colour filtering and you get an additional probe to sample light through the cannabic vapour, from the other side of the vaporisation chamber, above the oven where an halogen heater element resides - e.g. this would provide a thickness-monitoring signal in addition to the reference one below the heater.

Briefly put variations in cloud density should translate as light modulations that can be isolated using a pair of detection points coupled to 3 or 4 colour-specific sensors i guess. So, imagine a pen that won't combust dry cannabis and which we can't even choke on! Just don't ask me what year though...

Dude, Someday you will develop a vaporizing technology which will threaten mankind if it falls into the wrong hands.. just like Nuclear Power :) ! Cheers :D !

    Salutations Abysmal Vapor,

Ah! Ah! Perhaps i already have but it just didn't occur yet, euh... But anyway no threat can ever come from me as i'm a pacifist.

Also, should i be required to point at a concept capable of surving all others (once we're done with the usual dry/slow electric appliances!), euh... Then i'm afraid i'd have to claim there already ain't much competition for my modded 3-Stones 2-Shields Self-Moisturing Torch-Friendly VaporGenie Pipe with PVC Extension Tubing presently - at least not until properly filtered butane vanishes from the market!...

E.G. If it's dry it simply doesn't qualify as "threat" if you ask me.

So, right now if any particular technology really has serious longevity ahead of it then i'll bet it's got to be VaporGenie!!

Plus it's affordable and yet quite satisfying.

But it's still not my idea of a "Plan-A"; no, that would call for magnetic induction combined to some material(s) similar to this one below - not to mention it would be tagged LavaWand, or LavaPit (...):

Personnaly i doubt pen devices will ever attract me but i realize other persons wish to appreciate them. Maybe with more serious vaporist features available that might evolve for the best, i wonder.

    Hi again Abysmal Vapor,

Yes, glass has very desirable qualities and i might even want some in my own bi-energy (fantasy) Lava world! But i'd first need to rework its heat catcher to include 3 stones as in my modded VG pipe, though in reality i'd only require glass over a short distance past my vaporisation chamber, with convenient reclaims i mind (Prometheus style i think) - but so far the only other design which made sense to me was the WapMan where a large donut built from wood prevents accidental skin burns...

Briefly put those e-Cig devices which also differ significantly in power level, etc., simply pose no serious threat to butane-operated concepts so far and hence i should welcome the day these will finally evolve to their full potential, eventually.

At least this pipe has glass where it counts most while never too exposed...

@Egzoset I just wanted to say I seriously enjoy seeing your picture posts and accompanying info. I made my way over to the French part of the site through a link you posted, interesting stuff in the EQ thread with convection/IR experiments. if only you had the funding that some other companies had, we'd probably have some sort of cannabic nanotechnology delivery system (green goo  )

Have you done any testing yet?

    Salutations Hoptimum,

Thanks for those kind words, i find visual illustrations help with navigation when using Google Images, for example; the items ignored by local search tools often become accessible from 3rd-party resources such as those, actually!

It came as a surprize to me. Also, before anything else, this may suggest that my [Boost] button idea may have created some echoes after all, which would please me because if Arizer were to have a [Boost] button as suggested then perhaps they might as well decide to separate properly contained paths from the electronics harware...

It's easy to publish ideas, it can be fun on occasions and possibly even become profitable i guess.

But if i had the funding i'd want to kidnap capable people already in situation and i'd keep them sequestrated together until they come up with a creative innovation capable of pleasing me! So lets throw them in a pit with measurement tools, etc. i'd say!!

Ah! Ah! Direct to the brain, m'yeah! Hard-core junkie style...

Though i'd fear in those years we might start feeding the nanites should their programming go berzek...

It would seem to me you may be refering to the Health Stone pipes mentioned by Abysmal Vapor, who's got something quite nice to play with i believe! In that case it's no, i'm modding the VG pipe instead.

If it's about IH plates and Currie alloys then my reply is that i'm waiting patiently for the proper cookware to become conveniently available. When that happens i may decide to cut a piece of its thermostatic metal to install in my modded 3-stones VG pipe, euh... But don't hold your breath! If/when that ever happens this prototype may justify a LavaWand/LavaPit thread, eventually.

The present thread being about optically-coupled "temperature-controlled" e-Cigs though you may be asking about that and then i must answer it's still a fantasy relatively to this particular connector format. Lets just hope the need for intense light in the bowl (to "scan" it) isn't an issue - but really i'm much more motivated and curious about IH concepts...
