do you smoke out of the same glass you vape out of?

I'm a glass noob and have a matrix ion that i have only used with vapor. It's my only glass and i want to smoke out of it as well. couldn't i just give it a good iso wash after each smoke to keep it new and tasty for my vapor? I've combusted in it by accident while vaping twice and got a half hit of smoke. i then iso washed it and didn't notice a degradation in vapor taste. What say you?

I won't even vape hash in my main piece. Even if I still smoked I wouldn't smoke out of it.

My sense of taste is so sensitive I need to do several cleanings to get rid of the stink completely even after just a minor incident of accidental combustion when vaping, no way I'd do it on purpose.

But I don't like the taste of smoke through water anyway, I never was in to glass until I started vaping myself. I sometimes use a glass steamroller pipe when I want to combust, but more often roll a joint.

If a piece of glass is clean then you shouldn't be able to tell what it was used for in the past. Period.

With that being said, I tend to only combust out of a glass spoon, cause its easier to maintain than a bong - like if I don't clean in between uses it doesn't matter to me, also it discourages me from combusting to often as it gives a kinda harsh hit.

Oth, I have combusted out of every piece of glass I own (except for the rigs, naturally) because each bong provides a different experience. I'm here for a good time not a long time - might as well try everything at least once!

i think if you only combusted in it a handful of times it might be ok, but after some time of combustion the taste might be more noticeable.

i have a Left Coast straight tube that i use for vaping and will rarely combust in it, only burned through it like 4 times i think. after each time i did a ISO + salt wash and couldn't tell a difference taste wise when running a vape through it. however, i could faintly smell a scent of lighter butane at the downstem where you put the bowl.

truthfully, i think it mainly depends on how sensitive your sense of smell and taste are. i'd say im normal-ish and not very sensitive so i can get away getting combusting in a glass piece from time to time and not taste it with vapor-bonging afterwards.

do you have more than one glass piece? i have two, the Left Coast straight tube and a 12 arm bubb. i don't ever plan on combusting through that cause its my main piece for water filtration and it's my baby if you have more than one and its not your most prized piece then i say go for it.

I think that if I had the Matrix Ion as my daily driver, it would never see smoke unless I quit vaping.

Why not invest a cheap little tube/beaker or bubbler for smoking? I'm guessing it will be used as a community piece for guests? Better to break something cheaper.

I re-purposed my broken bubbler for use with combustion, and when I do clean it, I can never get it as squeaky clean as I'd prefer. Damn stubborn resin.

I have trouble seeing my glass "go up in smoke". Only done it a couple times and only with cheap 50 dollar bubblers or bongs. Haven't combusted in glass for about a year now. Too much work involved in cleaning. If you want to combust i suggest having a smoke only piece. Obviously this is coming from a clean freak vaporist though so do what YOU please because thats what it's all about.

thanks guys. I have a little bong I use and a larger one I haven't used, but niether of them draw me to them. the ion i use daily with the HI, and it just calls me to smoke out of it. I'm starting to think that the amount of diffusion I get with the ion may be overkill for vapor, but perfect for smoke. I am going to smoke regularly, but not much, for tolerance's sake. that's mostly why i want to smoke out of the ion. my main concern is will i get it back to vapor condition, and it sounds like it is at least worth a go once to find out.

I'll give it a go and report how well it cleans out...you only live once and it's just money, right shredhead?

I usually don't smoke out of my vapor glass, but if I do it gets cleaned immedietly after. I don't usually detect smoke/combustion if it's been properly cleaned.

You might also consider a carbon filter and a/c for when you combust. I know I am, particularly the carbon filter.

I agree with Tweak, you could always get a cheap combustion piece. Once my SSFG beaker comes, I'll relegate my current a/c-bubbler to combustion only.

dabs don't produce enough resin in my opinion to be considered combustion. And whatever resin does show up it is very easy to clean off. Even after glass has been sitting for a while.

I use the same one. Just clean it up nice before you vape and you're all good. As long as at least table salt will fit through all the holes and everything, you shouldn't have problems cleaning it.

I always make sure to give my pieces a long (12-24 hour) soak in Grunge Off (GO) right after smoking. I make sure to wipe the joint of whatever piece very well with Q-Tips that had GO on them, and I also wipe the outside of the tube with GO too. Keeps the glass like new, so there's no problem with using my glass for dabbing, smoking, or vaping. Just stay up on your cleaning and be thorough.

I only had 1 glass piece before I started vaping, and it saw a lot of use, after a good clean, I couldnt tell.
I wouldn't use a piece for vaping after combustion without a clean in between, as IMO it tastes like crapola, but I think that about combustion in general

If you're gonna combust, you may as well use that matrix.

Give it a good cleaning with Orange Chronic and it will shine like new as well as smell lovely. That stuff is AMAZING! (in my opinion)

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! I finally took the plunge last night and really enjoyed it. I ISO'd the Ion first to get all the vape gunk off. Then I smoked a bowl out of it. Best bowl ever! So smooth and clean for smoke and a nice change of pace. I've never smoked out of a piece like this and it rocks! Then I rinsed several times with water to get rid of all the ash, etc. Then I soaked it in ISO for about twenty hours before rinsing and hitting it with the HI. Didn't notice a smoke taste at all. So, unless you are super sensitive to smell and can't stand the taste/smell of smoke, my recommendation to anyone wanting to share a vape piece of glass with smoking is go for it.

On a side note, the high didn't last long at all from the smoking. The effect was great while smoking and just afterward, but thirty minutes later I was hitting the Solo. A vapor tolerance kicks the shit out of a smoke tolerance.

How about using the same piece for dabs and vape? I have a cheapo bubbler I got for dabs but my Mobius Matrix is of course much nicer - I've been using the Mobius with my Cloud vaporizer, combusting is way too harsh for me.

very true, which is why I take breaks from the vape often, it ruins your tolerance to anything but vaping. I never soak mine, just a good shake with some 420 or ipa, hot water, and I can't taste a thing.

Dabs don't really leave too much flavour behind in a bong for me, so unless your oils have a taste to them that you don't want when hitting a vape, I wouldn't be too worried about it.
I had some oil I made that had some d-limo in it, and that left a fairly distinct orange-y residue flavour in my piece after a few dabs, so I wouldn't use it without a clean then, but otherwise I rekkon it's fine...

I also agree with Lou, After smoking all the glass needs is an iso alc rinse (salt only if very dirty), and a hot water rinse, then its good to go for vapor again. I also agree with sticks, if your gona combust you might as well use the piece with the most water filtration to protect your lungs.
