Well....Good morning!!! :o

Usually, Sunday is a slow day here on FC, but I can see Saturday wasn't! Beautiful Zaps guys. Every one of them. kewpcer, yours is outstanding and there's a couple blond curly burls in Rick's pic that are amazing. Hope you all are enjoying your new toys! :D

This zap porn is looking great, really can't wait to get my hand on one of these. I love my zap but these are too hard to resist. So its mentioned that the SSS runs hotter than the traditional MZ's, does this mean I don't need to use my 13.5v to get them extra creamy hits? Also, I plan on waiting for the bottom installs, how soon will those be coming in? Just so anxious.

that is myrtle yea?

Thanks NYC! She is very pretty and likes the compliments :)

So I gave her a run last night and this morning. As you all might suspect, I am now planing on spending a couple hours going back through this thread to glean new techniques. My hits are not as robust or full as I had hoped. I'm pretty sure it's got to to with they way I'm filling or in-haling, probably both!
I'm also, not able to get my ABV any color but light, light brown with green still visible. No matter how long I leave the stem in or even if I take 10 hits. From reading I expect a stem to last about 3 hits. It seems after the 3rd hit the stem is cashed - no visible vapor, no flavor, just hot air. But, I dump the ABV and it's barely even toasted (like setting "1-2" on your kitchen toaster) That's the closet comparison I can think of. So I must be doing something wrong. Too bad there aren't more videos featuring the zap in actual operation.

- seeing pictures of the grind would be great
- completing the fill
- how long should the stem be on the unit before the draw
- when I do the first 2 "choo choo" puffs Rick recommends it doesn't seem to help get the vaping started. (just seems to cool down the whole process) - "Suck less" I'm sure is the answer.
- on the slow draw... how long should this last? I've tried from 5 secs to 35 secs seems the same result.

I know the answers are out there, just gotta start diggin!

Don't let me give you all the wrong impression, I have grown very attached to my little beauty over the course of the last 18 hours or so. I am very very pleased with her. Just have to learn how to bring out her best.

Wow, I just took at hit a t 7:56 AM. Very nice indeed. You know that I'm used to a big hitter and I am a customed to loading up .25g to .30g at a time. So when I load up only .03g  and I a get a rip like I just got, well that just rocks. I am very grateful to have this rockzap1. However, I know I have a lot of learning to do untill I get her down pat. Have a nice Sunday everybody.

Rumble, in my experience you're going to have a little green if you look for it no matter what. For me it's really the draw that gets it done. Try playing with slowing down you draw. Vito even recommends the micro-hitting from the launch box.

If I draw too hard i get the similar results as you describe. Is it just me or does vaping change the whole way you draw? Everything becomes a slow methodical process after you get used to it, hehe.

You may be taking too much credit for your RockZaps performance. Yes, there is a learning curve but you are also using a Beta unit. What could be part of the problem is the weight of the concrete cup. In the lighter weight woods, as 3 of the 5 rockzaps were, the density of the concrete cup was not so important because the outer shell of wood is so porous and lightweight. But when the wood shell is a relatively dense wood, as your Myrtle is, it is more important to get a lighter weight insulating cup around the heatport. We are now making the same cup close to a third lighter than the original cups. That means small air bubbles for more insulation and better performance in the denser woods. Smartrott got a lighter cup in his as that wood is also relatively dense, whatever it is. I only had one to try when I sent those 5 out.
Mid September for bottom installs, possibly more or less(time).
Aero, got your Myrtle. It is in pretty good shape so I will try a direct install of the new SSS heatport first for repair. If that works, it will be headed back to you tomorrow.

You keep trying RumbleShorts but keep in touch. We will be sure to get you the results you should expect from Aromazap, whatever it takes.

Thanks Rick,
I know you will :)
I want to get some temperature readings but need to go pick up a battery for my temp gun. I know it won't be 100% accurate but, at least it should ball park the heatport temp & the wood temp. It sure does seem warm. When I pull off the Cozy it is almost too hot to hold. Less like a warm handshake and more like grabbing the monkey bars in the middle of a summer day!.

I'm still working at it, while going over older posts.... it's cool re-reading posts now that I know the community a little better. I'll let you know how the learning progresses

Hey Rumble, I've had my Zap for a few days and have had a couple sessions with it when other people are around. None of them have been able to get visible clouds out of it although they definitely get high. Thing is, I get visible vapor pretty much every time. I've been the one packing all the stems so the only differences I can ID are that I pull slower and longer than they do. Maybe keep pushing yourself and see how extremely slow/long you can make your draws? Just advice from another Zap newbie.

rate of draw, grind and pack all can make a huge difference. You have to figure all of these things out to make it work at its optimal level.

keep at it!

Rumble, if it feels that warm, I am back to thinking technique. Be sure your herb is not ground too fine and very dry. Start with only half or so tip load, do not try to fill it full at first. I have a feeling you are restricting the flow too much?
Be sure you try something different if a method does not produce good results. Change the pack or the grind and/ or the pull. One of these times you will knock yourself over then say...."now how did I do that?"
I am thinking the best advice for newbies is start with half a tip load to get the technique down, then increase the tip load later.
I also get many many pulls from one tip load on the RockZaps. I am sure many of the later pulls have very little goodies left but still much visible vapor.
Maybe Vito can post a link to one of his vapor shows that shows him loading the stem tip with the straw method, then making vapor clouds. There are some on this thread.

guardian, will a tomorrow/Tuesday ship for a Wednesday/Thursday arrival work? I will do my best to make it a Monday ship. You are in the next batch of SSS regs I am making today. or we can refund your money if you wish.

Aero, will this work for you? Solid still after two years and you had the older brass heatport style even. It was in good shape except the heater had broken with all the loose tubing. Had to clean that top hole out but that was it. Feels like a nice tight install to me. We will test it soon and ship it back tomorrow. Aero now has a SSS Zap, traditional install, two year old wood.

guardian, sounds like you are jonesing for a vape. I feel your pain from here! :( I know Rick will do all he can to help you out. Love the Milton reference!!

So cool that your old Zap could be refurbished aero.

And RumbleShorts, keep at it. I always counsel that these vapes take patience.

Everything becomes a slow methodical process after you get used to it, hehe.

kewpcer has it exactly right. This vape is a leisurely experience, not a quickie. It takes more time than other style vapes, but it's such an enjoyable experience.

Vito, you are such a poet. :)

I've swapped back to the 12V and I'm guessing it's running somewhere around where my brass zap ran with the 12V and a coozie, but more hits as rick says. It's still drinking wax. I've waxed it 4 times and it's just now starting to stay put.

I do kindof wish I'd have gotten the LED now, but thems the breaks. It would have outshined some of the grain in low light, though.

Outshined.
Outshined.

I gave up on posting a pic. Decided to spend my time testing the zap.thanks Rick for posting my rocky BURL pic .I take lousy pics too. But the gods are paying me back for my shortcommings. Hurricane Irene knocked out my power last night and its still out now so no vaping for me today.
What's worst not having a zap or having multiple zaps and not being able to use them? I hope my power comes back on soon cause I HATE COMBUSTION

guardian and HDLar, I've had good luck using Imageshack for posting pics. Have two browsers open; here and Imageshack. There's a button called Browse. That will link to your computer's saved images (i.e. if you have a Mac you can pick your iPhoto pics). Select the pic you want. Then, once it has downloaded, Imageshack will give you links you can use here. Highlight the link for forums, go to edit on your computer and hit copy. Then come to the thread you want to post in, type your post, and go to edit and press paste. You don't have to have an account with them to use this feature. Hope this explanation is okay....

I'm so sorry about your power HDLar. Such a drag for so many reasons.

Perseverance RumbleShorts!

Thanks Rick, it looks great! I look forward to seeing how well it performs now. I would have missed it if the installation didn't work since I love how the wood has aged. It was a very light blonde when I received it and now it has a great golden-amber color.

Rick, do you happen to have my address? I didn't put a return address on the box I shipped to you. If you don't have it I can shoot you an email with all the info.
