Anyone let their glass get dirty?

During a session last night I had a highdea of just letting my glass get filthy to see what it would look like caked with vapor resin.

I'm pretty anal about keeping my glass clean so I doubt I could wait too long before cleaning again, it would drive me nuts.

Anyone else let there glass get filthy? And would there be any unhealthy side effects like mold or bacteria that would make reclaim a bad idea?

i think the idea is to not let the piece get totally caked but to concentrate that into a certain area.

mold would be a concern if you left the piece w/ moisture in it in a dark place ( which is where most ppl leave their pcs i would assume )

Sometimes I let the glass that I dab oils with get dirty to build reclaim so that I have something else to top bowls in the vape with. I don't find the smell or taste offensive even when dabbing the oil reclaim, but I cant do vape reclaim. I hate the way it makes my glass smell so I always keep it clean and separate from the glass that I dab with.

I never let my pieces get out of control, because of blockage of percolators, but mostly because the "hit" start to taste like shit. Ive had experiences with this really gross green mold or something that started growing in the water of my friends bong, i think we even hit it before noticing. :puke:

The only piece i dont clean is my dab-only rig, haven't been cleaned since it was bought - trying to get as much bho poop on it as possible. :brow:

Yes, and could make you sick just vaping through it.

Do you have proof? Wouldn't it be true for a dirty glass pipe (non-water) then?

I was meaning that you still dump and change water every session or few, just don't bother with cleaning the hard to get resin.

but mostly because the "hit" start to taste like shit.

This is what I was worried about and why I always keep my glass clean.

Does dabbing not make your water pipe stinky?

^^^ When I thoroughly dry my dab only piece piece immediately after use the smell doesn't bother me. After a while it'll get to me, then I clean and collect all my reclaim and start the process again.

I think its all about getting that water out quickly before it has time to get that stank/stale smell and taste in the glassware

Lately, I've taken to letting my glass get a bit dirty. Not too much, but enough to where you can easily notice where the water line went up to. Even a little more than that sometimes. But ALWAYS ALWAYS clean water every sesh. I find that the taste of resinated water makes the taste hit worse before the reclaim does.

Anyways, now I ISO soak the reclaim out every few days or so, and PBW every week or so as needed.

I got a friend which vapor bong is so dirty that you can say it is electrofoamed.. No mold can live there i bet :)

Would love to see a pic.

So I had another idea today. What if you where to use a bubbler dry with no water. Eliminate the possibilities of mold. Maybe even place the bubbler in the fridge or heated with a lamp to change its collecting possibilities. Then make sure to wet vac any moisture out that could form from condensation.

I was thinking of using one bubbler for the first few tasty hits and then switch it out with one that has water as the bowl gets less tasty.

We know that certain molds and bacteria can cause illness or infection, but I do not know of any case where someone went to their MD and said “my bong made me sick”. I would guess that if it was to happen, a person wouldn’t blame their dirty glass… they’d blame their friends, family, or something they ate first.

You will have much less of a chance without water and can probably go a lot longer without cleaning. However, there’s still humidity in the air that could be enough to feed it. That said, just because the conditions may exist, it doesn’t mean you will get growth.

This made me feel better. As long as your taste buds are working, they should tell you how long you can go without cleaning.

I fill with RezBlock/NACE once a day and I am very happy with the way things stay tasting clean. I just use cold water to rinse everyday before refilling and last about a week before I start to smell something gross, then it get’s the ISO.

of course, clean on a schedule, but not everyday...

Hmmm..........a schedule could be:
Once a week.
Once every 3.5 weeks
Every 8th Tuesday
Every 2nd Sunday but only those Sundays that fall on months that have 30 days.
Etc......

Yes so true. Personally, my interval is on Feb 29th... If it needs it or not.

Or - if the performance is noticeably affected - now you will say - "by what standard is the performance measured and what is the trigger point to say it needs cleaning?" Well its a personal choice. If one doesn't notice lack of performance, is happy with the look and feel - well I guess it stays dirty. If you are annal and think the moment you see reclaim the performance is affected or you can't stand the look of some reclaim on your glass you may do it a bit more often.

It would be interesting to blind fold someone who is in the latter camp (more often cleaning) and see if they really could tell any lack of performance or is it really looks... The looks is just an opinion and can not be scientifically measured. I do know the fret or honeycombs require cleaning more often. My belief is the more the perc effect the quicker it gets dirty and the performance is affected the most due to the smaller holes. My recyclers are unaffected by the reclaim with heavy use.

Bottom-line - It must be measured on performance and even then it becomes opinionated...
Perhaps the question could be restated - "do you notice degradation of the pipes performance as it gets dirty?" or "If you notice performance reduction do you clean the pipe?" or "do you clean your pipe even though you don't notice performance lost?" or maybe even "How annal are you?" Simply stating do you let your glass get dirty really is very vague in my opinion so I gave a vague answer, which I thought completely answered the question - sorry I was just playing around :)

I was just playin' around too. No need to apologize.

I don't clean mine based on performance at all, nor do I base it on looks, nor smell, nor do I think I'm anal about it. I just give it a good hot water rinse after every session (only do one session a night) and ISO it once a month to every month and half strictly based on my assumption that a clean piece would lead to less respiratory infections. Haven't had a respiratory infection (knock on wood) in over 15 years. I have no idea if keeping my stuff clean had anything to do with that.

Never. That chunky shit that floats around is nasty. I'm not as anal as most - but I would say I clean my glass weekly at least.

I guess I fall into the anal category. I use Rezblock and dump my water and rinse with hot water every day. I usually use PBW to clean at least once weekly; more if the glass has been used heavily.

After seeing how quickly mold can grow in even untreated (Rezblock) water when it's just left standing, I would never use water two days in a row again.

I like to let my oil rig get caked before I reclaim it for edibles. I actually enjoy the taste of a dry hit through it haha but i always make sure to empty the water after every session to prevent mold

Only case I've seen is Pappy on FuckCombustion mentioning this a number of times"
So now I stand and don't use hot bong water. I had a lung infection last year a pulmonary specialist ascribed to fungal. He thought hot bonging was the likely culprit. *No two bodies are alike so your mileage may vary. ;)

It's safe to say that alot of us on here are vaporists for health reasons. IMO it would be against everything weve worked so hard to achieve. Especially since there are developers and manufacturers that go the extra mile and utilize medical grade and food grade materials within their devices to ensure our health.

Aside from all that one of my favorite aspects of vaporizing is the taste. Filtering it through murky water just doesn't make any sense. What drips around the gong joints is one thing but I couldn't imagine anyone trying to reclaim what grows within and above the water. If you are then may wanna try snorting bleu cheese...lol, it may fuck someone up! :lmao:
