I go where the thrills are
@MikeMcSnipe @sch15m Just got my unit today. Mine does the same thing, It pulsed on the first heat up but it has remained static the rest of the time. I heard they were working on a firmware update to fix it because it is a software bug? .

If your FF is still pretty warm, especially if the ambient temp is warm, it may not need to pre-heat and thus you won't get a pulse, just a solid green. If the FF has been idle for hours, you may see a solid green as it "wakes"...it should pulse on the next button touch, but it may not. In any event you may be experiencing intended behavior here.

One thing I have noticed that I'm worried about is that if I heat it up and let it sit for about 20 seconds and heat it up a second time, the glow is much less. I'm assuming that the unit knows how much to heat the oven and just isn't activating the temperatures as much, but I'm not sure.

Also normal behavior. The glow is dimmer after the first couple of hits, once the bowl gets warmed-up....something to do with efficiency of heating which in turn saves battery life....but you get less visible glow than on the FF1. (Yes, the unit knows how much to heat! :p)

I think people are underestimating the heater technology and temperature control on the FF2.

The reason it doesn't always blink green is because the heater is able to heat to temperature so fast that it doesn't need to let you know it's "warming up" and simply goes to green because it already knows it's at temperature.

The reason it doesn't glow as much after the first heating cycle is because the temperature is intentionally ramped way up in the beginning both to heat up faster and to make the bowl glow. Once the heater is up to temperature it simply needs to heat to maintain the temperature which requires much less heat. If it were glowing red all of the time that would make it overheat.

Based on what I've already seen and what I assume they should be able to do with this device in the future I'm very excited about the possibilities they have for the app controlled heater. :science:

@jay87 Thanks for your input, that was exactly what I was looking for. In my defense, however, the green lit will stay solid after leaving the unit unused for over an hour, so the bowl is not hot at all and I know that 100%

Alas... I'm struggling to match my other Vapes. Is it me? My vape print the issue?
It is the coolest looking vape ever. Sexy is the word, and smart. Love the app and swappable batts. Problem is, I'm used to getting Vapes I like perform to their full potential, from weed prep, drying, grinding, drawing, button pressing, temp setting, cleaning, and every other conceivable aspect of vaping, but it's been two days and clouds are minimal, taste ok, effect really not there. I know I'm missing something.

After an hour it is probably in "sleep" mode if it doesn't blink and your unit is not warm from ambient air temperatures or maybe even being in your pocket. In any case if you touch the buttons again the led should start blinking again. At least that is what my unit does. I wouldn't worry if it doesn't blink all of the time as long as the bowl heats up you should be good to go.

If that's the case there may be an issue with the software that controls the light. As long as the heater heats correctly the issue is most likely cosmetic.

The technology is what makes it good, but the more technology you have the more you're going to see errors. It seems the vast majority of FF2 issues are cosmetic and/or software related, which is good as its real function is unaffected. It's also good because these issues SHOULD be able to be fixed via remote update. But it's still unfortunate to see these kinds of errors at all.

I assume that because the lights are programmed for different button pushes, charging, overheating, dying battery, etc. that they should be able to be reprogrammed remotely from the app as well.

I'm most interested in when they were talking about how the heater is programmed with heating curves that are different, a steeper heating curve on the concentrate setting for example.

If the concentrate setting has a different heating curve than the dry herb setting, there's no reason why they couldn't allow each user to create their own customizable heating curves... other than time and money of course :2c:

@Bravesst nice to see you here in the FF 2 forum, thanks again for the nano, it's awesome! Anyway I had some issues getting my FF 2 up and running. First thing is that it doesn't produce thick clouds like some other vapes, but the taste and the buzz more than makes up for it. I would say for me most importantly is to hand tear your bud and leave it out for an hour or so to let is dry a bit after tearing. I load my bowl to about the top and slightly tamp it down. I then let my FF 2 heat up until led is solid (if it is already solid green I hold it for about 5 seconds anyway) and take a long slow draw. I stir it after about 3 hits. First hit is super tasty with little vape or even a bluish vape. After that I usually get more visual vapor production. I can get clouds even on the low setting now. I think that there might be a break in period on these things as mine is more efficient and I get more visible clouds since I have been using it. It may just be that my technique is just better but even my GF is getting better at it and she hardly uses it.

Here is a post I made with some tips and video from Firefly Customer Support. I wrote them detailing that I was having problems using the unit. There might be some info on it, or on the videos that will help you.

As far as the taste goes, depending on your herb, it varies greatly. So I would say to just try and switch out different strains to see what works for you. The FF 2 will really give you a "magnified" taste of your herb. I have some that I cannot even use with it because the taste is too strong and spicy, but it tastes fine in my pax 2 or the e-nano.

My biggest tips for getting good vapor production are these:

  • Take the first 2 draws as warmup draws. Once the chamber is heated from those draws the vapor becomes much thicker from then on.

  • Take draws that are only just as hard as the natural air resistance, too hard and there will be too much airflow, too soft and there will be barely any airflow at all. If it whistles you're pulling to hard, if you feel no resistance at all you're pulling too soft.

  • Make sure the lid is on correctly, you'll know if it's not when the draw resistance is nonexistent

  • Pack it full, but don't smash down and cram as much in there as possible as it could reduce air flow.

  • Mind the auto shutoff, it is exactly 30 seconds for me when I timed it. You can avoid it by quickly disengaging then re-engaging the heater.

I just take draws at the natural speed until the vapor is too much to handle and I have to exhale.
At this point I know how I like to use my FF2 and don't really have to think about the things I just mentioned, it's pretty much just second nature.

I would almost call the FF2 an on demand session vape in that it heats instantly but does take a couple draws to get to temperature. Once it's hot this thing will easily get you to whatever cloud you want to be on.

Mine works like that exactly. It seems like a bug to me. Cannot imagine a function for this behavior. Easy to correct so it matters little but surprising the first time.

ON the Firefly website it says the pre order will ship in Spring. But at the top it says it will ship in June.

I have asked some other websites that are vaporizer retailers and they say they will have it in the next two weeks they think, meaning in June. Are they just going off information on Fireflys website?

I can get the FF 2 off ebay now, but I would have to pay extra, or I can just wait. And you guys do think its worth it, correct? I have never vaped, and I want to get a FF2 and I am thinking perhaps a desktop vape such as Arizer tower to Buddah.

I would get it from the manufacturer. Call them and find out what color units have the least lead time. It is totally worth it. Great unit and unbelievable taste. Read back a few pages on this thread to see what others think, you won't be disappointed. This vape however is not a cloud making machine, but it more than makes up for it in pure taste and great delivery of meds. I can get toasted on chiquita banana after 3 big draws. This thread has many tips to get over the learning curve.

As far as getting a desktop, add e-nano to your short list too. I just got one and it is awesome. Check out the e-nano thread on FC, the people there are great and full of information. Good luck and happy vaping!

Thank you very much for the advice. Okay, I'll give them a call and find that out. I did really want a white or gold one, but I can live with another color for sure. It's just that I am really ready to start vaporizing now, and Spring seems a little far away. I would really like to get it soon.

e-nano sounds great, actually. Better than the ones I was mentioning. It also took me to a review that compared it to the cloud xhale, and man that does seem like a really sweet machine. But also quite big, and a bit of an eye sore. The e-nano goes along with everything else in my room, is small, easier to put away, and looks like decour. Also, could xhale is expensive.

I'm pretty sure all colors are shipping quickly, white and gold definitely are.

Hello Malsanti and welcome to FC. I ordered a black firefly 2 from manufacturer on Sunday June 6th. Used free shipping and it shipped Tuesday and will be here today. I am excited about this one since my favorite portable vaporizer has been my elevape smart. I have high hopes for this one.

I go where the thrills are
Why not design a lid with a little groove that locks into place, creating a perfect seal every time? Why leave any room for user error?

Nonetheless, I've been enjoying my FF2 more lately now that I've established a good routine for using it.

There is a groove. The lid has an overhang that fits perfectly, and only one way, into the recessed edge of the main body.

The reason lids get mis-seated is due to debris on the seal....but if someone cannot successfully snap the lid onto its groove correctly, they may have bigger cognitive issues.

External charger users so my battery was solid blue in like 40 minutes which was weird. I reseated it and it blinked for a few more minutes then solid blue. Same thing with other battery which was only partially used.

My techie friend assured me that batteries never charge to fully full and this is normal and went so far to say if I keep putting it back on its bad for the battery.

Thoughts?

That's about how long it's supposed to take to charge? Mine always charges in under an hour. Never timed it though...

Right but if you take battery out after charge and then put it back in does it blink again or is it solid blue? I think that's what I'm trying to figure out

I don't think I've every put the battery back on immediately, but I have put an unused battery back on the charger after a while and it did blink for a minute or two before going solid. I think it's normal/fine.

Ok cool I wouldn't sweat it but I'm going away for weekend and it would suck if I think these things are fully charged and in reality they're like 80% charged!!

They're supposed to be at 80% in 20-30 minutes, I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong.) The rest of the time is to finish it off. You're fine. It's not recommended to "over charge" your batteries anyway.

It could be better, though. I always keep my lid clean, but there are times when it doesn't perfectly seal. I'm just saying, it doesn't "lock" or "snap" into place exactly the same way consistently. I have learned how to get a perfect seal, but just the possibility of new users doing it incorrectly isn't ideal.

After vaping a few bowls, we all get a little "cognitively impaired" I guess :D

Just got mine in. Packed a single bowl about 75% full so I could stir by tapping it like the MFLB. All I have to say is WOW :o this is everything I was hoping it'd be, for once the hype was real. I'd say if you've used an MFLB before and had all the advanced techniques down, this thing will be a piece of cake for you. No whistling, no air issues, no added smell/taste, huge clouds, great medication. I'd bet this thing takes the place of my Mighty soon enough.
