Cheap High Quality Bubbler

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Bought this off of a funky hippy head shop that is going out of business. It looks like lab glass. Do not know what the "Q" is for. So, is it safe to use? Or was I a horse's hinder for buying it? Any insight on this piece would be of help. TX

It's just a side arm flask (also called filter flask or maybe Buchner flask) rigged to smoke out of. So, yes, definitely just lab glass, but that means it should be pyrex or something like that and safe to use. You might want to replace the hose with silicon? How many of us have spent time in a lab and not eyed all the glassware up? Pretty cool!

I am relieved. TX .Already replaced the hose with silicone hose. After I ISO & salt cleaned everything. Detailed around the hose output end. Turned the stem upside down and made it a vapor bong. Still would like to know about the q in "Q" is for. Besides that it's going to meet my EQ. :whoa:

My D020-D broke two weeks ago by a friend knocking it off a table while I was at work. Great way to come back to my piece!
Well...after much searching and a lot of contemplating...
I purchased another D020-D because there isn't another piece that I'm aware of on dhgate that matches everything I want so perfectly.
My friend has a GB-187 from Yingmin, and I can say, the perc fires better than my D020-D, but the mouthpiece and size is not what I want....The D020-D is literally just perfect for my situation.

Not gloating, honest:
A week ago I dropped my D020-D while cleaning it.
I did one of those comedy lurch/grabs which only succeeds in batting your baby a further two feet up in the air.
Upon impact with my kitchen floor (mouthpiece first) this bong BOUNCED about a foot in the air whilst ringing like a bell (ok, rang like a gong would read better here, but it was too high pitched for that).

Getting yourself another is affordable when you need to, and it functions so well it's hard to feel the need for anything spendy.

Best money I've invested in glass

Where do we sign up for the D020-D fan club?

Did it live? My d020 took a small tumble the other week and survived. It was sitting on a DVD player and I watched as it fell off (from vibration?) and fell ~6 inches onto a hard lab table. Enough to make my eyes bug out.

I received mine, here is a quick test. Water test early on, then some usage with the UD and Hopper.

It did come with water in it, nothing seems crooked or cracked, seems flawless.
Looks good with lots of air, but is it vortexing with the Hopper before you clear it? I'd love to see some nail hits through one of these.

Also I noticed on all the stevenmlz pieces I tested, the polished percs (like on his ball, fab, and klein) function a lot smoother and have better-formed bubbles than the rough cut percs on the torus and ftk.
I wonder if better stacking bubbles also aid the funnel intake (and hence vortexing potential)?

Interesting how the rough perc fails the canola test while the rest of the FTK disappears.

I was inhaling faster than normal for the Hopper and on the beginning UD hit. Hoppers like more airflow to the herb so I was trying to ensure it got it. Still need to find my technique on the unit.

Here's something a bit different to add to this thread. This is a 64oz wide mouth mason jar with a custom 3D printed top. It accepts a 18mm to 14mm bowl adapter and has a tapered opening for the hookah hose. It has a silicone tube for a downstem and a three arm diffuser with 3 decent size holes at the ends (little diffusion for dabbing). This is a product from Glass Lung, he makes the 3D printed stuff himself. I bought the kit separately and pieced the rest together in hopes of making my own custom copper downstem. I'll be ordering another kit soon so I will be using the stock silicone setup for now.

What caught my attention was mainly the hookah style of smoking where I can lay back rather than have to bring the rig to me or go to it, and the fact I can stuff the hell out of it with ice. I love smoking with ice and unfortunately I only have one bong that I can put ice in and even then it wasn't designed to have ice in it. I'm still working on the water levels because this beast can hold a lot of water but more water, harder pull. So far the best is to fill it 1/4 of water and rest of ice. Eventually it fills up some more when the ice melts but it's just magic how the smoke travels through so much ice to cool it down. Almost like an intricate ice perc.

In total this cost me about $40. He has other designs on his website that come preassembled for you. I'm taking one of his other ideas where he implements copper tubing to further make it a colder smoke, but I will be doing my own design soon.

I just had my carb adapter slip out my hand (just had put lotion on) and I was quick enough to do the hit it into the air when trying to catch it. Fortunately, I was able to catch it on the second try! YES YES YES!

Thanks for the info. I was a little dubious at first. Not knowing where it was last.
Do plan on buying a silicone cork and extra silicone tubing. Then get really long downstem. Hopefully this one will be the heavy duty one. But I feel like I should be getting more ideas to go with it. :science: Already took the stem that came with it and added the stem that was broken from my last piece and combined them. The thing uses a #7 rubber stopper. I know I can come up with something better than just a long downstem for it. Any suggetions?. It is thick lab glass. Primitive compared to the D020-D. But I'll have at least one piece that will behave well.

I think the "Q" stands for the brand.

Thanks for the link. I found the catalog. They use drawings instead of images. But I think I have the model number.
I wonder what it's worth? For $30 I got a thick walled Buchner flask that has plenty of inside space to work with. 500ml at least. What a find!!The hookah tip is great too!

Has anyone tried this FC-Mod from BONGGLASS ?? It's cheaper and looks pretty nice except the tilted ash catcher but Steven's do that too. I may buy one to see if it's decent if no one has tried it. Anyone have any experience with this seller at all?

It's safe lab quality glass. Hose and stopper look fine to me but those would be the only things that could be suspect. Do you combust? If not you could either adapt this by putting something like this downstem in the stopper instead of that bowl. You can make it a standard 18.8 or 14.4, your choice. Just measure and figure out what length of stem you need.

OR That bowl actually looks a lot like my Hammer Pro Vape bowls. You may be able to put a small screen in it and use it as a Hammer-Bubbler if you have access to one! The original bowls look like this. As long as the silicone of the Hammer fit in that bowl I think it would work. Although the first solution is the way to go, this looks fun to play with!

I have always liked the idea of building bongs from Lab glass. Hell, Any gas washing bottle is already a vape bong ready for a whip attachment. Get em with or without diffusion!

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
@mrbonsai420 thanks for reassuring me about the "Q" and all the suggestions and directions. And getting me to look at more lab glass possibilities. :brow:
Now, I've got my eye on Gas washing bottles now. :hmm:I already wanted to come up with a universal plug that might fit the top of most bottles but utilize all the top space. Designed in such a way to have the widest throat allowed with two 'holes' going into it. With the limited width of the plug being the only bottleneck. (figuratively and literally the bottle neck.) The top of the Gas washing bottles not only handles that, but cause more gas action to form at the top. :nod:Which I'm realizing should be the focus of my 'project' all along the pathway. I have been trying to get a certain type of gaseous state with the vapor. For lack of a better description.

Now that I have been assured the "Q" is safe. There is so much room to work with. Like say 500ml of inside space surrounded by THICK ASS GLASS. Anything that can be fit through the opening of that #7 stopper is being looked at for ideas. Already took the stem that came with it and added a broken perc from another and made a long one that reached near the bottom of the bottle. Changed out the rubber hose for silicone hose and had the mouthpiece mounted close to the output valve for more throat, until I buy some fresh tubing.

I could even play with the inside volume of the "Q" and tweak my results. It's more of a bong platform than a bong. :cool:I swear, It must have been waiting for me to show up. Even the hookah tip fumed with my favorite blue colors. Could make a primitive D020. Just with the restriction being the output instead of the wide draw space of a mouthpiece. If I get a two hole plug or if I get lucky, and get the top of a gas washing bottle that fits. Then this will have more options opened up.:science:

If you can't find a downstem long enough (a one piece) check these people out. They can make custom length downstems for you up to 10" in length and in different size joint combinations if needed. I got one in the mail for my custom mason jar rig.

Well my purchases thus far have been mixed. Hyman is the only rockstar. we_are_young just sent me a POS drop down. Labeled as quartz , but the joints feel like glass. it is VERY thin. like, expensive wine glass thin.

The image i purchased showed a thicker piece with much more attractive shape. This thing is ridiculous looking.. it is at least 2 inches too long. we named it Pinnochio.

ill post a pic so you can lol at it with me.. im going to use it for a couple weeks while something nicer shows up then torch it. do not buy

They do custom stems too! If they can help you with your Mason jar rig, That will come in handy later. The perc design you have with you mason jars might help with the fat curved bottom of my piece. I will look over any other sources that can deal with my unusual requests. Thanks for the sources!

I'm already proud of it! Other FCers are happy for me too. It will be modded out I assure you. Will not disappoint y'all. The output is meant for a vacume draw. So I intend to exploit that. I can order #7 stoppers of different types. But looking for silicone plugs. Brewmasters use a range of silicone plugs for what they do. So I figure....

I have an add-on with my browser that will slide show all the images found on a single web page (or all the tabbed pages FTM) . So I google 'gas washing bottles', set the search to images, turned on the slideshow and drool over my coffee cup for at least 10 minutes. :haw: Looking at all the possibilities.
